I wanted to know what what you guys would do this offseason to make the New York Giants a playoff team in 2021. Let’s make this a realistic plan, not plans where we are signing Leonard Williams, Kenny Golloday, and Joe Thuney to huge contracts. What would you do ?
Go to the draft for WRs and CB
2. Cut Solder
3. Re-sign Flemming (or comparable vet OT) for $2-3M to be the swing OT (Thomas/Peart start)
4. Cut Tate
5. Sign LW long term - 5 yrs/$90M
6. Let DT walk
7. Sign a 2nd tier WR on a team friendly deal. Personally, I'd like Corey Davis for 1 year/$10-12M which may be a little low, but I don't think is unrealistic given his up-and-down performance and the cap decrease. Also gives him the flexibility to get paid next offseason if he has a big season.
8. Not sure who, but I'd look for another CB in the secondary FA market too. See if there's another Ryan that can't get what he wants initially and then settles for a 1 year deal.
Personally avoiding the 'big 3' WRs (Robinson, Golloday, Godwin) as I think they'll all be substantially overpaid.
Draft
WR/CB/ER - grab one of each on 1st two days. Specific player/round for each is based on value at the time.
Day 3 - at least one G/C, at least one TE, DL depth.
Zeitler (12 million saved)
Tate (6 million saved)
Solder (6 million saved)
Core (2 million saved)
Mayo (2.3 million saved)
Sign LW 4 years 68 million with (40m guaranteed)
Let DT walk... tough but we don’t have the cap space
Let Gallman walk
Sign cheap veteran TE (1 year 5 million )
Draft
First Round Best Edge Rusher/CB available
Second Best WR/DT available
Third best available (WR/DT missed round 2)
4th Best OG or Tackle available
6th round best CB/WR available
6th round best RB Availabe.
This is a great point as evidenced by how dominant those three teams were this season.
That’s not true at all. The Giants controlled the division 3 weeks from the end of the season. The Eagles aren’t in great shape, WFT doesn’t have a QB, and the Cowboys have a ton of questions on D. With a good offseason we should definitely compete going into year 2 of Judge’s tenure.
What’s a more realistic figure then ?
DT Leonard Williams
DT Austin Johnson
Cut:
Golden Tate
David Mayo
Cody Core - then re-sign 1 year vet min
Levine Toilolo
Sam Beal
Nate Solder
Trade:
TE Evan Engram
Paycut:
Kevin Zeitler - trade for a day 3 pick if he refuses
FA:
Sign WR Nelson Agholor to a 2 year deal
Sign TE Jonnu Smith to a 3 year deal
Sign OT Kelvin Beachum 1 year deal
Sign G Forrest Lamp to a 1 year deal
Sign CB Dre Kirkpatrick to a 1 year deal
Draft:
1st - WR DeVonta Smith
2nd - OLB Joseph Ossai
3rd - G Deonte Brown
4th - WR Anthony Schwartz
5th - RB Jaret Patterson
What team is looking to blow things up at a certain position or even overall? What team thinks it has a glut of talent at a particular position and is open to moving the star player to make room for the younger player? Or what team just wants to nuke the whole thing like the Giants did back in 2018 when they traded the likes of JPP?
FA is one thing but I would be much more inclined to trade for that star if possible.
Zeitler (12 million saved)
Tate (6 million saved)
Solder (6 million saved)
Core (2 million saved)
Mayo (2.3 million saved)
Sign LW 4 years 68 million with (40m guaranteed)
Let DT walk... tough but we don’t have the cap space
Let Gallman walk
Sign cheap veteran TE (1 year 5 million )
Draft
First Round Best Edge Rusher/CB available
Second Best WR/DT available
Third best available (WR/DT missed round 2)
4th Best OG or Tackle available
6th round best CB/WR available
6th round best RB Availabe.
This plan seems very realistic to me, and I would sign up for it. Need to continue building the OLine.
If he wants that much, then I’d let him walk and and focus on Tomlinson. Or we can play hardball with him and franchise him again.
Cutting
Solder
Tate
Zeitler
Trading Engram if I can get an early 3 or better.
Then we have to see what falls to us in the draft will depend on where we go FA. Hoping for one of Pitts, Surtain, Chase, Smith, Parsons or Rousseau would trade back only if a decisive trade win because I think drop off is steep after we pick.
Really hard to pick FAs because it is so fluid and LW changes everything.
Golden Tate
David Mayo
Levine Toilolo
Sam Beal
Nate Solder
Trade:
TE Evan Engram for 2022 pick
OG Kevin Zeitler for 2022 pick
Re-sign:
DT Leonard Williams 4/80
DT Dalvin Tomlinson 3/33
FA:
Sign CB Michael Davis 3/36
Sign TE Gerald Everett 3/20
Sign WR Curtis Samuel 3/24
Draft:
1st WR Kadarius Toney
2nd OT Alex Leatherwood
3rd ER Patrick Jones
4th Goes to the Jets for LW re-sign
5th RB Trey Sermon
6th WR Trevon Grimes
6th TE Jeremy Ruckert
7th OG Deonte Brown

I fear that 5/100/55 may be more realistic. I hope I am wrong though.

I think 4 years is more likely, but yeah, I think he wants 20 per.
Golden Tate
David Mayo
Levine Toilolo
Sam Beal
Nate Solder
Trade:
TE Evan Engram for 2022 pick
OG Kevin Zeitler for 2022 pick
Re-sign:
DT Leonard Williams 4/80
DT Dalvin Tomlinson 3/33
FA:
Sign CB Michael Davis 3/36
Sign TE Gerald Everett 3/20
Sign WR Curtis Samuel 3/24
Draft:
1st WR Kadarius Toney
2nd OT Alex Leatherwood
3rd ER Patrick Jones
4th Goes to the Jets for LW re-sign
5th RB Trey Sermon
6th WR Trevon Grimes
6th TE Jeremy Ruckert
7th OG Deonte Brown
I rather keep Engram at 6 million than sign Everett for 3 years and 20 mil.
FA:
Sign WR Nelson Agholor to a 2 year deal
Sign TE Jonnu Smith to a 3 year deal
Sign OT Kelvin Beachum 1 year deal
Sign G Forrest Lamp to a 1 year deal
Sign CB Dre Kirkpatrick to a 1 year deal
Some interesting names here. Do you really think they'll be a lot of 1 year deals? I'd be surprised if all those guys took such short term deals. What do you think Agholor would get per year?
Kelvin Beachum is an interesting figure. He seems to have been underpaid. 2 mill last year to be a starting tackle? Weird.
Forrest Lamp is a name I haven't heard in a while. What's his deal? Just injuries? Could be a high upside kind of signing.
The priorities besides resigning LW and DT is getting a WR, edge guy and corner. I am not drafting a TE with the first pick. As frustrating as EE is that is probably the fifth need at best.
Tomillson would be a nice to have....but not a must have...I like him but replaceable.
As FA goes....I would go with
Curtis Samuel....only 25, has a DG connection....and arrow pointing up.
Bud Dupree.....must be healthy....maybe prove it deal....but he single handedly wreak the Giants last year....seems to fit skene and multi-deminsonal edge
Get a 2 way TE....
Tate must go. Solder probably retire. All the old guys that looked old (Lewis, etc)....
Draft top corner.....D should be strong.
Cluster draft Wars, get a guard and a 2 way TE and developmental RB.

Cutting Zeitler saves us 12 million. You need that cap space to sign Williams or any other priority Free Agent. You can also get a veteran guard at a quarter of that price. Zeitler is good but he’s not 14 mill good at this point in time.
But I suspect DG and Judge will figure out best course of action.
2. Trade/Cut Engram and sign FA Jonnu Smith.
3. Restructure Tate, Zeitler, Solder.
2. Draft a WR in round 1. (Chase, Bateman)
3. Draft
OT (pass protect/run block) (Eichenberg, Radunz, Abraham Lucas)
IOL. (pass protect/run block) (Davis, Humphrey, Deonte Brown, Cleveland, Trey Hill, Drake Jackson)
ER (Basham, Joe Tryon, Merlin Robertson, Odighizuwa, Ossai, Victor Dimukeje)
LB (Ventrell Miller, Pete Werner, Garret Wallow, Chazz Surratt)
CB (Mukuamu, Eric Stokes, Josh Jobe, Roger McCreary, Patrick Jones, Chase Lucas, Jaycee Horn)
I want a good #2 corner like JC from NE
I want a good edge rusher like Reddick from AZ
Go to the draft for WRs and CB
This seems pretty reasonable, but I'd add an ER somehow somewhere

Due to camp constraints this upcoming offseason I expect a lot of players to land 1 year deals in order to re-enter FA in a year when the cap goes up again.
Agholor is a tough guy to predict. I think he will get 6-9 million per season but he had a very good year for the Raiders averaging over 18 yards a reception.
I have been a fan of Beachum since he was a Steeler and he would replace Fleming as the swing tackle and insurance if Peart isn't completely ready. He should be cheaper than Fleming was. I'm guessing a 1 year $2.5 million deal.
Forrest Lamp dealt with injuries and bad luck with the Chargers. He is exactly the type of player I hope the Giants target this offseason. He started all 16 games at guard and gave up 2 sacks. He had an up and down season but it was his first full season so he should get better with a full healthy offseason. A 1 year prove it deal could prove to be a big win for the Giants if he improves and begins to live up to his potential.
Make a decision on Tate. Probably a cut
Sign LW within reason
See if there are any reasonable trade offers for Engram
Realize that DT is not going to be retained, unless LW becomes cost prohibitive.
Ascertain trade value of players who may not be in long term plans: Ximenes, Beal.
2. Cut Solder
3. Re-sign Flemming (or comparable vet OT) for $2-3M to be the swing OT (Thomas/Peart start)
4. Cut Tate
5. Sign LW long term - 5 yrs/$90M
6. Let DT walk unless less than $8M / Resign Johnson
7. Sign a 2nd tier TE on a team friendly deal. Personally, I'd like Dan "BIG DAN" Arnold for 3 year/$15M
8. Low Cost CB
9. Resign Gallman
10. Look for bargins....Bud Dupree 1yr 12M, Kyle Fackrell 1yr 4M, Malcom Brown when cut by Saints, Preston Smith if Cut by the Packers, CB Robert Alford when cut by Arizona???
