He was Britton's setup man when he was with Baltimore. Before the bottom dropped out for Baltimore he seemed to own the Yanks. Despite his age, he had very good numbers in Atlanta. This looks like a solid pickup
Disappointed that the Braves didn't bring him back for that price. He had a very good season last year and at worst he should be an excellent ROOGY for the Yankees.
2.5 million guaranteed with both a team and player option for year 2.
that now means the Yankees have to waive one player to announce the Kluber, DJ signings though.
There are a few easy 40 man spots to open up without trading anyone. Albert Abreu has passed his prospect status. He is now 25 years old and had only pitched more than 100 innings in his career once (and it was only 102 innings), stunk in his couple appearances for Yanks last year, and quite frankly hasn't been good in the minors since 2017.
Brooks Kriske is another one. He was a surprise 40 man add last offseason as he is now 27 and was never considered much of a prospect. Even at that advanced age he stunk with the Yanks last year, and has never even pitched at the AAA level.
I think you will see one of those guys simply DFA'ed for O'Day.
The third guy that is expendable on the 40 man is OF Greg Allen. He is a light-hitting switch hitter with speed that we picked up off waivers this offseason. But I think we won't see him DFA'ed unless it is to bring back Gardner, or bring in another OF'er.
and 0 for 20 since August 31, gets sent to the plate to lead off the eighth inning of Game 5 of the ALDS, batting for Higashioka, with the score tied, the Yanks' season in the balance, and both Frazier and Sanchez available to hit.
Shockingly enough, Ford strikes out, the Yanks go quietly, and their season rapidly comes to an end.
How does this happen? It happens because Brian Cashman general manages (and manages) this team to indulge his personal player preferences and will go to absurd lengths to prove himself right about a player upon whom he has bestowed his preference.
Cashman put Ford on the opening day roster and buried Clint Frazier in Scranton, though Frazier had much the better spring training.
Cashman put Ford on the post-season roster, when no other GM would do so for a player with such abysmal stats.
So, Ford gets sent out there with the season hanging. How else can Cashman be proven right?
And if things don't go right, no matter, job for life.
Since I was in middle school. My eldest is older than I was the last time they had a losing season. That might have something to do with his job security.
Ford, Tauchman and Andujar came back to earth in the eyes of the market. Again, not as a fan of theirs, but as marketable
I was rooting for all three and all three do somethings well, but all three showed too much JAG and little marketability.
Time to look hard at some other minor leaguers?
Ford is a AAA player that had a hot streak in 2019 that the GM and Manager fell for.
Tauchman has legit MLB outfield skills, better than average, with close to elite speed.(even if the bat fell off last season) He is a good choice for 4th OF as he can play all 3 positions as well as the starters, defensively. Let's see if they can revive his bat.
Andujar (IMHO) has legit bat skill with moderate power and absolutely no fielding ability at this point, but he is an enigma...is he a batting illusion.
Ford has no market.
Tauchman is a backup. so little market value, a throw in player.
Andujar showed enough bat skill to be a piece in a trade.
Of the three, Tauchman is the one true MLB player.
I imagine you're right. Can't believe they spent anything significant. He got 2.2 mill last year. And ATL paid a 500k buy out. Prob around a 1-2 mill.

Me too. Ottavino upgrade for 1/4 the cost
+1

A bat first guy who can’t hit
Or maybe he's just streaky and might even things out with more consistent at bats. Not for the Yankees, but maybe he has trade value.
He has no trade value. Quad A sluggers with poor conditioning are a dime a dozen.
