Off course team needs will look different after free agency in March but right now I see team needs as 1. CB 2 OL 3 WR/TE 4 LB
Will need to sign at least 1 guy in FA and draft two (or 1 high and a priority FA) at the position.
When you add in EE's issues then you see WR and TE as being the MOST glaring need on the team. You can scheme production from a group of over achievers but not much you can do with a group of average at best (at their best they are average) players with a few just downright pedestrian.
Waddle is an leg injured player who plays at 20 pounds lighter than OBJ - so in JudgeLand that might be a disqualifier ( I dunno...just saying a Wr at 11 may not be the choice)
If Barclay returns to his full potential, you are gainng a wide receiver.
I think there's a chance that Slayton can still develop.
And there' things that scare me about Waddle.. he goes down and Smith sets every record, does that say that the system and overwhelming superiority of his team inflated these records.?
Then you have the fact that there's going to be fine alternatives, from Rousseau, maybe Partrick Surtain, Farley or Parsons.
Good logic, good posts, but, at the same time, i think they could easily be wrong.
The question is not what you look at, but what you see.
1) Is smaller than average for the position in height and weight.
2) Who is deployed in a three WR to a side formation because he has trouble getting free into his routes off the line. In college.
3) I see the NYG needing a full 5 years of difference making contribution from their 1st round pick.
Rooting for him to do well. Rooting for the NYG to do well.
If he is not picked by the NYG at 11 then I would understand. If a 11 slot deserving WR was not available to the NYG at 11 - I would understand.
Hence, why I think we need to look to the FA pool for some of our needs at WR.
If someone told you the WR we draft in round 1 has a 50% of turning out to be great or the guard drafted there has a 90% chance to be great, which one do you want?
Mock drafts are fun, but mock drafts built on the notion of team needs are kind of pointless. Everyone knows we need a WR. Doesn't take much to conduct a mock draft with that in mind.
FA needs to play out and even after that, the Giants will likely draft by value and then marry need and value when the time comes.
Just like the two young QBs: Allen got Diggs and Murray got Hopkins , I think DG gets Jones a top vet WR.
100% agree. We need to come away from this offseason with a legit receiver. Whether that’s an established guy like Golladay/Robinson or a first rounder. Hell, I’d pick up one in FA and round 1. A legit receiver or two would really unlock this offense.
Exactly!
Seriously - Ed's mock is LOL-worthy for that alone. Phillips might be the first edge rusher off the board, he could potentially be gone before the Giants' first pick let alone last to their second. I think he must be using first-pick.com for his draft values.
