Fair trade? Yes or No...Engram for M Williams?

rasbutant : 2/15/2021 5:57 pm
Would you trade Engram straight up for Mike Williams.

Williams is on the 5th year option at about ~15M for the chargers who probably don't want to pay him that but don't want to weaken the weapons for Herbert. 6M for Engram would probably be much preferred, plus he is a pro bowler after all.

So Engram and money for Williams???

I don't see Henry effecting this either way, but if they let him walk it makes even more sense for the Chargers.
Yes

Getting rid of Engram is addition by subtraction. Then we’d get a big outside WR that wins 50/50 balls and drafting Pitts would make sense.
Fair trade...

A six pack of beer for EE? I'm taking the brews.
No, only because of the contract

I don't think we want to pay Mike Williams 15mm either... That would also hurt our ability to make a play at a better WR in FA.

I rather just trade him for a draft pick and take the cap space.

Anything more than a "bag of donuts, a hot pretzel and a hot dog"

Maybe for an OL?

That would be sweet.

Pass... always hurt.
Engram for OJ Howard would be a good trade.

Both on 5th yr option making the same money, and both could use a change of scenery. Probably wouldn't involve much more than the players being swapped.
I’d trade Engram

This trade would be highway robbery

EE is a coach killer. Name one game where he had a positive effect on a winning game.
Can we trade him for Vincent Jackson?

The only reason I would not make that trade is that I am a vegetarian. Wait, you know what, I'd make the trade and just throw the sandwich away.

Is Williams so expensive?
Some clips from Charger's fan site...

There is another potential cut candidate in Mike Williams. Williams is playing under his fifth-year rookie option in 2021 that is worth $15.6 million. If they cut him before June 1, there is no dead cap hit.

There is absolutely no way that the Chargers trade Williams, so that is not an option. No team is going to acquire one-year of an injury-prone wide receiver at $15 million. Even if they did, the best the Chargers would get would be a fifth-round pick, which isn’t even worth it at that point.

Yes, he is injury prone and overpaid, but I would rather the team overpay for Williams who can still offer something for Justin Herbert when he is healthy rather than cut him and spend that money on mediocre depth pieces or not even spend it at all.

After the great showing from Tyron Johnson on Thursday night football and the fact that Williams has not been able to stay healthy, it has become a legitimate question of whether or not the LA Chargers should cut him next season.
I actually think the Chargers are getting the better in this deal

Giants fans are really down on Engram, but he has produced when available and has decent stats, been to pro bowl, has been good a teammate, coaches like him and he is cheaper. If he could just stop the drops/deflections which i think other teams will believe they can fix, he could be a weapon. We know better, but they may not.

Career stats compared over 4yrs
Engram listed first then Williams
Games = 50 - 56
Target = 356 - 264
Rec = 216 - 151
Yards = 2420 - 2516
Y/R = 11.2 - 16.7
TD = 13 - 17

Very similar stats and Engram is half the cost and will be easier to sign long term. Pair him with Henry and that becomes really difficult on a defense. They already have Keenan Allen, Akeler and Tyron Johnson add a WR in the draft (1st or 2nd round)...and wow that would be a pretty powerful offense once they fix the offensive line.

Top 10 pick.
Getting a player who doesn't drop the ball....

would be the payoff when trading away EE (overrated Pro Bowl player).
I'd say yes,a.s.a.p. to this trade if it is offered.
