Sweeny Murti @YankeesWFAN Yankees deal with Justin Wilson is done. Rejoins Yankees, pitched for them in 2015. |

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 5h Free-agent catcher Robinson Chirinos in agreement with Yankees on minor-league deal, sources tell @TheAthletic |
As far as Chirinos, the need a backup in case of injury and spring training reps, I suppose.
As for Chirinos, well, they needed a third catcher, as mentioned. A backup’s backup.
The Yanks now have a deep pen again. Chapman, Britton, Green, O’Day, Wilson, Cessa, Loiasiga as the 40 man guys.
Don’t forget they have a bunch of vets signed to minor league deals- Tyler Lyons, Nestor Cortes (who can be a long man or spot starter), old friend Adam Warren (who is now recovered from TJ surgery) and longer shot Reggie McClain, who they picked up from the Phillies.
Are they going to try to stretch him out? Or keep him in the bullpen at AAA and have him as one of the first call-ups for bullpen contingencies?

No idea at all.
IMO, it looks like the front office is trying to stack up a bunch of vets to allow the Yanks to send the young guys to the minors and get regular reps. Then, if the vets fail, they bring up the young guys.
Otherwise, when the season ends, you let the vets go and work in the young guys who have had a full season of regular reps in the minors.
Just a quick list- Abreu, Cessa, German, Tauchman, Loiasiga, Higashioka and Estrada.
I hadn’t realized that Tauchman was out of options, which may explain the Bruce signing. If Tauchman comes to camp and performs like 2020 instead of 2019, they might have to cut bait and would need a second option. They could also just turn to Allen, but he hasn’t proven anything in the majors yet.
This also could explain the run on vet bullpen arms. If Cessa is wildly inconsistent or German runs into usage issues, they can’t send them to the minors. They might have to hide them in the pen or trade them.
Yes, 26 for opening day, max of 13 pitchers.
Expands to 28 on September 1.

Good call. Looks like they report tomorrow.

Has to be the quietest Pitchers and Catchers in my 64 years!
But my MLBTV Extra Innings renewed and with the rebate from the shortened season my payment is only like $50 for the season...
Kind of funny given that he was benched for the last three games of the ALDS with the Yanks' season on the line. And was even passed over in favor of Mike Ford for a critical pinch hit opportunity in Game 5.
Whatever. My perception has been that Boone has been in Frazier's corner and the jerking around has come from above.
May he make the most of the opportunity.

It's about time. Only a year or two late.

Cashman chimes in to say Clint had a hell of a year last season and should be very proud of it.

No not really. He had the concussion which kept him out the previous season and when he did play his fielding was below little league quality(which I believe was caused by effects of the concussion).
Add to that his vet leadership, seems like a no-brainer. Maybe he's holding out for more money, maybe he wants a chance to start somewhere.
Frazier can and should be the starting LF now, but should still be plenty of ABs for Gardy over the season

I am too, but maybe Cashman has decided to move on. They have Tauchman and a couple other younger players for much cheaper contracts.
Yankees are just weird when they move on. Like with Tanaka, just crickets. No mention that they are moving on.

True. His fielding looked a lot better last year.

IDK, seems like piling on. He is a strange ranger, but despite what Davidoff says, he is a solid pitcher. It would be nice to see how ST plays out before the get rid of him.
