1981 Week 12 Giants at Eagles Full game

Jints in Carolina : 2/16/2021 2:00 pm
A big regular season game that would see the Giants begin their 4-1 stretch run to the 1981 Playoffs.

Summerall and Madden on the call.

Enjoy!

Wilbert Montgomery complained how our defense "held him up" for extra hits before tackling him.

Yuck.

How did they make the playoffs (I know, Taylor, Carson, Van Pelt, Reasons, Haynes and Jackson).

YT has a ton of old games now

I've watched a whole bunch of them. Football in general was so much better to watch back then.
What a great game!

I remember jumping up and down in the livingroom screaming me head off during Jackson's INT return.

Beating the Eagles never gets old!

I thought the game was better, but also nothing has ever come close to Madden and Summerall for me in football. A perfect Sunday was a 1980s Giants win done by those 2.

For baseball, I still long for Messer, White, and Rizzuto doing a Yankee game, and rotating out for the radio at times. Marv Albert doing a Knicks game.

And the Rangers. “Kick save and a beauty.”

I'd feel the same if I was a bigger hockey fan. I'm only a fringe fan now and really barely followed the Rangers as a kid.
Summerall and Madden for the Giants games

and Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen for the 4PM game in Denver or the West Coast to cap off the weekend.

Doesn't get better than that.
Or Don Criqui

or Charlie Jones.

Criqui was filling in for Marv Albert on a Knicks broadcast. This was during the Knicks ‘69/70 first title run. Cazzie became the first guy off the bench as Holman played only 8 of his 12 man squad and Bradley became the starting SF. Cazzie was in a second half of the season zone as he’d score 3-4 buckets in a row to give the Knicks a huge boost off the bench.

To this day, in that Criqui voice, I can hear him shout, “and Cazzie Russell has come alive.”

Not an important anecdote, but just the mention of Criqui evokes that memory..

this was one chippy nasty game

That quote came after the Giants won the wildcard playoff game against the Eagles.
