he believes nobody is untouchable on the Kbicks roster, also says he believes Knicks would trade Rj for a star, would like to keep him but would trade him for a star player
Looks completely lost. Defensively, offensively....all he does is look for the lob. Now, in his defense I think the Knick guards should be looking to get it to him that way more, but thats literally all he does out there.
What happened to Alec Burks? He has been dreadful for a while now.
with a work engagement, looks like that wasn't too bad of a circumstance.
I see on the post game they're discussing adding a big man, and that's probably right. I'd also like them to subtract a guard, especially one of Bullock, Burks, Rivers as those guys seem to offer more or less the same thing to me.

The way the HC is treating Barrett, I absolutely believe he wants to trade him.
Any truth to this?
Or is it NY post click bait.?
What would it take to get him?
I would be up for Frank, Noel, and a 23' second.
Maybe this coaching staff could unlock the potential.

Only stars worth a trade are Beal and Lavine right now.
Both would take RJ's minutes.
I am coming around to the idea of making a big move for either one of those guys

Barrett is so up and down and we need more consistent production from our starting 2. Yes, hes young, but we need a much better 3 ball shooter and all around shooter than RJ. At this point, when he goes up for a lay up, Im honestly surprised when it goes in.

Bamba looks awfully slow and Noel has been a pretty good back up C. Sub out Noel for Knox and I would make that deal.

You can make a case against him sure.
My point is that the HC isn't trying to build his confidence. He's trying to set him up to be traded.
If you check the game log, he had three good games at the start of February, which was the continuation of a trend.
Then he did have four games when he did not shoot well and his minutes were cut.
Then he had a good game last game with a couple of big threes in the fourth.
Tonight he was at 15 points on nine shots when he got pulled.
On a night when a lot of guys are having terrible nights, he can't get back in?
Everything has a reason. b ref - ( New Window )
He is still a 2 guard who is barely a 30% 3 ball shooter. Hovers around 40% the rest of his shots and he made a quantum leap at the line to jump 10 points and become a 70% shooter. Hes not a distributor. Plays just okay defense. I have a feeling he is a career 17 ppg player who wont shut down anybody on defense. That is not treasure.
He went through a pretty brief spell (about 2 weeks) where he was consistently producing what he should be at his position.
Im not saying trade him for just ANYBODY, but Barrett has not shown the kind of improvement that would lead me to believe he can become that player.

Well Thibs still wants to win games! Lol. But the way Burks has been playing, I agree we should at least see what he can do. He doesnt instill much in the way of confidence tho.
i would trade Barrett, i am not giving him away though by anymeans and i prefer to keep him..
I am in full agreement. But I think that is only because the right deal isnt apparent yet. I just hope he can keep having streaks of really good play to keep his value up. Tonight was the perfect game for him to rise up and share the load with Randle and he just didnt. He should be getting to the line more too.
I would love to be able to put him in a deal for LaVine or Beal. But its just not going to happen.
Well we need at least one other scorer that will average at least 20/game and that guy should be our 2 guard. We got 13 from Payton tonight and I expect Quickley to score around 15 off the bench. But we still lost by 18. So unless Randle is going to get us 30+ every single night, we need more points from Barrett.
He's only 20. Have to give him time to develop. Why not go after a true 3 in the draft? We need better 3 and d wings. Bullock and Burks are far from starting material.
Let's not act like we're a LaVine away from competing for a ring.
This is just reaction to an ugly loss. Can't make decisions like trading away a second year future star just because he's in the coach's doghouse for some reason.

Adam, I have been saying this about Barrett since his college days. He is decent or below average at practically everything he does. One of the things he can do well is leap and he is such a bitch about going to the hole. Look at how Payton gets to the hoop. RJ should be driving and slashing to the basket, but he is always hesitant about doing so. When he actually did start going to the hoop (1/13- the beginning of Feb), he was a force. He was averaging over 20, the threes he did shoot he shot with confidence and in rhythm and he got to the line. Then he just stopped doing that regularly. I think he is too fragile mentally. When he missed a lay up against Miami, I noticed he was too hesitant to go to the rim going forward. That shit has to stop. Problem is, thats a mental thing and mental things are hard to get over and rarely do
Can he improve? Sure. I think he can be a decent piece off the bench for a contending team. But right now he is a starting shooting guard who cant score consistently from anywhere on the floor.
He was,at the time, 5-9 from the field and 4-5 free throws for his 15 points.
He had six points in the third quarter before he got pulled, including an "and-one" drive to the hoop that made the highlights.
It could be that TT got angry that his favorite, D Rose, went 1-10 and he took it out on RJ and Payton.
But, in the fourth quarter, TT wasn't trying to win the game as first priority. He wanted to win it without Barrett on the floor or not at all.
And one reason for that could be that he wants to show the FO that he doesn't need Barrett.
If you're right, that's really shitty.
That's also a huge reach.
As far as Barrett's improvement since last year, it is minimal. His FG% has gone up from 40->42, while he has actually regressed in his 3 point % from 32->30. He is averaging 1 more rebound per game and and .5 more assist per game this year as opposed to last. His defense is about the same (tho about .5 LESS steals per game).
As far as taking him out, I wouldnt be surprised if it was the TYPES of shots Barrett was taking at that point. I seem to remember him taking those stupid mid range jumpers that he just shouldnt be taking or badly missing 3s. He had the same number of shots as Payton did and shot 10 points lower. Why is that?
Btw shyster, your numbers on Barrett by the 3rd not with standing, these are all of his shots taken for his entire 2nd half. Please notice the 2 misses in the paint:
Barrett. He’s 20 years old. His shooting percentage, FT percentage, assists, rebounds, and points are all better this season.
Hey just maybe he’s 20 years old and still figuring it out on a nightly basis. He will literally be the same age as Randle in 6 years. Give the kid some time.
They missed Mitch last night. Orlando was too tough to handle down low. Taj is rugged but not athletic enough. Noel is athletic but not rugged enough. Mitch has enough of both to be a big improvement over both.
And I really like Noel, but he is an absolute zero on offense and is a bad rebounder. I was having a bit of Jared Jeffries flashbacks.
I continue to think they should bring up one of the C's from the G League. I agree they miss Mitch and Taj is not always the answer depending on the opponent. Give one of the young guys a try until Mitch is back.

I'm not sure any of those guys would help. Although one of them is entertainingly named "Shittu" or something like that
for a 1st or jist throwing him away, obviously you want to keep him,but if a star becomes available, one your going to need his salary and 2 it will be an upgrade..
you dont trade for a 30 year old, but if Lavine or Beal become available i dont think you hesitate..
he believes nobody is untouchable on the Kbicks roster, also says he believes Knicks would trade Rj for a star, would like to keep him but would trade him for a star player
YEa, I can't blame the Knicks at all for thinking this way if it's true.
What is so good about the Knicks situation is they now have young kids that look good enough to stand on their own merit, meaning it might not take 2-3 players and 2-3 picks for that star trade. It might take RJB and one or two picks.
Strike while the iron is hot. IF that player can be had, get him. Just don't trade the entire team away which I don't see the Knicks doing.
we are missing Mitch and his hands of slightly softer stone
Rose and Quickley were horrible tonight..
Now have 3 days to think about this one
That was a bad game against a team you should beat.
That was a bad game against a team you should beat.
there are always nights in the NBA where you just cant make a shot, tonight was one of those nights..
Quickley is not going to go 1-11 and rose 1-10

Completely ignores that Rose only play 16 minutes..
Thibs said he kept the same lineup in the game because they cut it to 10 and as soon as the lead went to 15 he brought Barrett back..
the player that should of been benched was Quickley
They had no problem leaving Barrett on the floor when he was playing well in January.
I would be shocked if the Knicks do not add a replacement by the deadline
