I’ve had SXM for about 10 years now. The cycle repeats itself:
1. My promo subscription runs out
2. I call to cancel
3. I get offered another promo subscription which I take
My yearly subscription of All Access is about to expire on 03/01, so I need to make that call again. My last promo rate was about $130 including taxes for the year for All Access.
Frankly, I’m getting tired of paying. If I were to just let the sub renew, it’s be $28.47 per month. I don’t listen to SXM a ton, I’ll put on NFL radio if there is a guest I want to hear or if I’m driving during a NFL Sunday. A little Mad Dog Radio and some music channels. I do like having the option to listen though, so I’ll most likely continue.
Do you pay for SXM, and if so - what are the terms of your current subscription?
I used to do the same thing as you. But a year or two ago they extended the special from 6 mos to one year, so while I still have to play the same cancellation game, I only have to do it once per year instead of twice.
With Rogan on Spotify and guys like Jason Ellis off Sirius I don’t think I’d ever go back. Never was a Stern fan so I guess that makes the decision easy for me.
Yes, I pay for my subscription. It's worth it.
I think we still have it on my wife's car but it is like $10/mo
Not sure if I'll renew in August or not though. Depends how much more we're driving.
The satellite portion is ancient tech, I don't even bother with it anymore.
But I stream the music online when I exercise in my basement.. love Ozzy's Boneyard since I am an old metal head.
I think the sub was about $300 or so in 2004, so it was a bargain.
It's no longer available but I've been grandfathered in at $8.49/month.
If it weren't for that I'd get rid of it.
I really don't like fiddling with my phone while I drive
I have been using the app for work while the kids rage, because the extra channels play some more uptempo stuff. I really listen primarily for music, the Premier league audio broadcasts and college sports. That's work the 6.50 per month. More than that not really.
I use a portable unit....so it gets connected to car via an auxiliary cable....a bit of a pain....
But also use it at home on a boom box
....and I avoid the any connections fees.
Now, like all good things....
My wife has fallen in love with it....so I needed to purchase an extra service for her car

just bring your iPhone into the car and listen to a million different podcasts or your own music library. It is probably much more satisfying than anything on Sirius.

I don't either, but can't you connect it to your car and then control it with your steering wheel, just like if you were controlling your radio or Sirius with your steering wheel? In other words, I never have to touch my iPhone, it is just integrated into the car's audio system.
I have Sirius so I am not on a anti-Sirius campaign, but ever since Bruce started releasing the live shows at his official website, you can download them and put them in your music library. E Street Radio basically plays only the shows that are released on the official Springsteen website (before they released them the value of E Street Radio was another big benefit of Sirius).
I tell them them at
My age (93) and don’t drive that much anymore and it’s not worth More than the $5 per month .They renew me with no squabble
This for over 8 years now
Initial offer was 10 and I was like nah, I'll still cancel. Then they came down again. I don't use my truck that often but for long trips and was OK with $6ish to keep the service.
I guess you can get the service on one's phone now????? I still have to look into this and see how the app works, but if so, @$6-8 is a decent deal for the service/programing.

I basically listen to that & Pearl Jam Radio, along with the Sinatra channel.Listen to sports occasionally on it,but I'd rather listen to sports channels with a NY spin like WFAN & ESPN

I have every Archive Release plus all shows from 2014,2016-17.I'm paying $5.00 a month (after negotiating with them),so despite owning every live show released,I like to put it on on Amazon Echo & listen w/o having to hook up my speakers/player. Plus, you still get some live shows(even in the pandemic)like Southside Johnny this past July from the Drive In Theater! Downside, you get Dave Marsh!
Yes, I pay for my subscription. It's worth it.
+1
How anybody can listen to regular radio while driving is beyond me.
That leaves radio shows and those are dying off. A lot of the talent is going solo and you can easily subscribe to them on Spotify or Youtube, etc. and can access at any time. Sirius is going to have to pivot and by the time they do it it may be too late.
Its worth it still for the cheap <$5 per month deals, but their model really isn't that attractive long term.

A lot of truth to this. I wonder what happens to them post Stern. The stock is only going for $6 a share too.
