It actually reminds me of many a Giants victory, especially lately. Feels like it only buys time for Gettleman...err, Quinn.
I mean the Flyers hadn't played in 11 days and were missing some of their top guns and yet still managed to eke out a point. Meanwhile, we blew the lead AGAIN and Zibanejad, Kreider, Laf, etc. continue to stay off the scoresheet.
Who are your favorite prospects in the 2021 NHL Draft? Rangers need C prospects BADLY. Who's your favorite? Beniers? Kent Johnson? Aatu Raty?
No stand out clear #1, but I love Beniers - MA kid. He's playing well in NCAA as a true freshman and was good in the WJC as the youngest player on team USA. I might even take him #1 overall.
Raty is a very similar player. Fins in general are so fundamentally sound and if you find one with skill and fundamentals even better.
Between the two I definitely take Beniers.
Sweden's William Eklund is a late riser, he was great in the Hlinka, haven't seen him much otherwise.
but this draft, for the first time in a long time, is D heavy. like 5 or 6 of the top 10 could be D (as of today)
David Quinn makes Adam Gase look like Vince Lombardi
I’m getting frustrated with the guy too but comments like he’s a “mental midget”, that he should be traded, he stinks...11 months ago the guy had 41 goals in 57 games. The year before last he had 74 points on a team that was decimated by trades. I will admit to being a bit of a Mika apologist, as I have been a huge fan of his since they traded for him (even though I was also a huge fan of Brassard). He looks off this year, there’s no question, but he didn’t just stop being a good hockey player between March and January.
Regarding last night’s game, I’ll take the 2 points. Sucks that the Flyers found their way to getting a point and it took a shootout, but that is a quality win over a good team. I was really impressed with how the patchwork defense held up, and thought Hajek looked very good again. He’s not flashy, but he gets the job done. Bitetto also had a good game last night and Georgiev had his best game since the Islanders shutout.
The Flyers ARE a good team....when they're healthy
the Rangers have played better than their record. They are in virtually every single game, but just have really faltered in the third period. They were the better team against the Devils for 50 minutes, and I don't even know what happened in the last 10. They played two tough, tight hockey games against the Bruins. The 3 games we lost to Pittsburgh were all really close, hard fought games. The Rangers are a young team, and a team that is not getting great production from many of its small cadre of veterans, but they still compete every night. I am not happy with how things are going, but I do feel like maybe (myself included) we are being a bit too tough on Quinn (full disclosure I like Quinn and want him to succeed although I have questioned him recently). Every night, it seems we are playing teams that are much more battle worn than us, the B's, the Caps, the Pens, even the Isles went on a run last year and have some good experience. This might be a good season for patience.
RE: RE: And yet, according to Brooks, there is zero heat to Quinn's seat
would be a good acquisition if he didn't cost Kakko, Miller, or Lafreniere.
He's your 1C. Eichel and Panarin would be fun to watch together. But Mika was fun to watch last year with Panarin too, no clue what's wrong with him if it's not COVID. Jay from Toronto suggested that COVID could impact your coordination too, not just stamina like I had presumed so who knows if it's COVID related and if/when he'll snap out of it. His skating seems fine to me.
RE: RE: RE: And yet, according to Brooks, there is zero heat to Quinn's seat
I don't think the team has played all that poorly this season.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you there.
I think Kreider and Zibanejad are the biggest reasons for their record. The bottom six and defense are better than last year. I think they've outplayed their opponents in 3 or 4 games they didn't get a point in.
I'm in agreement here. Much of the team has progressed
beyond the top line. Kreider is a mystery. Or maybe he's not. The guy has disappeared for weeks on end all throughout his career. Every one of us has been waiting him to put it all together consistently ever since his rookie year. The question is, why? Why has he been unable to make the seemingly capable jump to a true top talent in this league? Is it mental? He has ALL the tools and more when you factor in his elite speed. I've always said and heard, you can't teach 'want to'. Maybe he just doesn't have that 'want to'. If so, the brass should have known that long before they gave him that contract.
Zibby hasn't played that badly. He's been snake bitten as often as MIA. Hell, he could have had a hat trick if not for bad puck luck and great saves in that Isles loss last week. I don't worry about Zib nearly as much as I worry about Krieder.
Just my .02

I agree with all of this. Kreider is who Kreider is. He has a 4-5 game stretch where he is the best player on the ice. Then he disappears for 4-5 games. With his size and speed, and ability to create a net-front presence, the fact he has a career single season high of 53 points is really astounding. I was thrilled when they gave him the contract because I felt like they couldn’t just cut everyone loose, and he’s a good veteran presence on this team. However, if his contract makes it more difficult to sign Mika long-term (which I still firmly believe they should do), or they have to let Buchnevich go, it will not be money well spent.
Am I right in saying that this was KK's first appearance in the shoot out? I haven't watched all games start to finish, but I can't remember seeing him there. And first up, no less. With a quick zinger of a wrist shot that we don't see that often from him 5 on 5. His command of the puck and control of play in his O zone that led to the hooking penalty on Buch in OT was a treat to see for those of us who watched his struggles last year. So many here go into default mode of criticizing him when he (or any of the team) is not scoring. He's been a different player this year, still a teen, and his confidence level is visibly growing. The forward lines are a mess of mix and match, losing Chytl was enormous for its rotten timing. Got to find consistent chemistry and flow.
Oh, and Kakko has been working hard being a two-way forward, using his body and strength much more; last year, he seemed putty in the hands of checking forwards, not so much this year.
RE: RE: And yet, according to Brooks, there is zero heat to Quinn's seat
Did the Rangers finally score or something?
Yep, you read that right.
And fails
Mr. Garrison
Nah. That was clean. Just the Rangers are a fucking trash team.
Same shit; different day. The David Quinn special
I had kakko tonight.

I had kakko tonight.
They do not unfortunately

Yet, the NHL counts them in the goal differential category of the standings, which makes zero sense to me.

But yay, we beat an AHL team that was missing 6 players!

And so where the Rangers.
Would a coach have to quarantine for two weeks?
I don't think the team has played all that poorly this season.
I saw a lot of Rangers talk about Eichel on Twitter yesterday - not sure what started that.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you there.

Yeah, IDK where the Eichel talk is coming from, but Rangers fans seem all too eager to include Lafreniere in any trade.
