Just watched 'The Next Three Days'.

Amazing flick! Can't understand why it got such bad reviews.

Russel Crowe is great in about everything he does.

Anyone have any other good ones?

TIA
It’s on Netflix for free

and rewatched it recently. I enjoyed it but it all seemed too “easy”.

We watched “Destroyer” last night on Hulu. It’s solid, Nicole Kidman looks wretched, hah.

Might rent Greenland tonight - $6 rental. Heard surprisingly good things.
Thanks!

Anyone else have some suggestions?
Greenland felt a lot like Deep Impact

With a couple more destruction scenes. You could easily do worse.

Here are some risky options, the types of movies you'll either hate or love with no in between.

Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar - the opposite of Covid. Watched this with the wife and we both loved it. The 4K HDR looked amazing, closest I've felt to vacation in a year. The movie is really random and silly, but only a few jokes fall flat, and there are some real classic moments thrown in.

Fatman - Mel Gibson and Goggins make it work, and work well.

Synchronic - Interesting premise and it's executed well enough to be engaging throughout.

Psycho Goreman - funny and gruesome.

Shadow in the Cloud - this was review bombed because people tried to make it political, but those people are morons. It's an old school, low budget B movie with some plot holes but a great performance and solid tension. Like a mix of Phone Booth and Overlord.

Wander - great cast really elevate this to something worthwhile.

Jo Jo Rabbit - I'll never look at Hitler the same way again.

Watched 'The Social Network' on Netflix the other night. I saw it when it in the theaters when it came out & it was just as good as I remembered, though Sorkin/Fincher apparently took massive liberties with what actually transpired.

1. King of Staten Island: just a horrible unfunny and uninteresting waste of time. I’m still mad that I wasted more than two hours watching this lousy movie. Don’t bother, I’ve suffered enough for all of us.

2. Tinker, Tailor, Solder, Spy: I like to think I’m smart enough to watch any movie I chose but I’m apparently wrong as I wasn’t anywhere near smart enough to understand wtf was going in this movie. About half way through I just gave up trying to understand the plot. Go for it if you’re ex-KGB or just like really, really smart. I guess?

3. Wrestling with My Family: no IQ test required for this movie. Just some good yucks and lots of fun for this based on real life story about pro wrestling.

Couple more...

Palm Springs: super funny rom-com now playing on Hulu. Highly recommend for date night!

Judas and the Black Messiah: on HBO Max this biopic of Black Panthers in Chicago.

Incredibly creepy/cringey and ultimately brutal psychological thriller with Joel Edgerton and Jason Bateman as old high school classmates who bump into each other in their mid 30s. Rebecca Hall is really good in it as well.

On a side note Tinker Tailor is one of my favorite movies of all time and set me about reading the George Smiley books, which I also love. I will admit it took a few viewings to get all the details down, theres a lot there. But the story and acting is superb. I'd probably call it my favorite Gary Oldman movie.
Not to beat a dead horse with Tinker Tailor but look at that cast!
j_rud : 2/21/2021 10:19 am : link
Oldman, John Hurt, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, Ciaran Hinds, Tom Hardy, Stephen Graham...
It’s new, not a rental, but watched

Nomad land on Hulu. I loved it, most of the cast were actual nomads, and they were terrific. Really well done, and one of the rare films nowadays that allows itself to breathe.

I loved Tinker. Had previously read the book, that may have help with the plot.

Watched Logan Lucky the other night, worth the watch. An Oceans 11 clone, also by Soderbergh, but pretty funny being set and cast in deep country West Virginia

I thought it had a ton of potential but went flatter than flat after the first 45 minutes or so.

on Amazon Prime

Don't read anything or watch the trailer
I think it would ruin the movie
Just watch and be patient
The movie is all about tension building

You could put this movie in a bunch of genres
I won't ruin it

Just go in blind and enjoy!

Its subtitled but only a small fraction of the movie is subtitled so hang in there if that's an issue.

Mostly American English.

Enjoy!

new to Netflix

Very interesting story line, great cast and great acting.

I would have done the ending a different way

I agree. I had high hopes for it, but thought it was borderline terrible. Denzel was good, Leto too, but I was stunned at how bad Rami Malek was. And the ending was ridiculous.
the ending was terrible
UConn4523 : 2/22/2021 12:49 pm : link
in fact, the last half hour was.

I see the Malek complaints too, and that's just who he is. He's the same exact way in Mr. Robot, i think he's a 'you either like him or you don't' type of actor.

They laid the ground work for a very intense investigation where we'd find 2 cops from different eras piece together the puzzle and it was just empty for me.
