That's 11 guys. One of them would be on the board for the Giants even if not a single QB goes in the top 10. Lawrence is going, so that means two. Zach Wilson makes three. If Trey Lance goes, that's four.
I guess the Giants' worst case scenario is that only Lawrence goes top-10 and only two of the players above are available, and it's someone they don't want, like maybe Paye or Horn. Unlikely but possible.
So take your "worst" picks from that list. (Mine would be Paye, Horn and maybe Slater. There's nothing wrong with Slater. I just don't want another first-round pick sunk into OT.) If you would rather have Barmore than any of your "worst" guys, yes, absolutely.
You might very well be right to want him, by the way. If they trade down, and if Tomlinson leaves, it's a strong possibility. Though I'd rather see either an impact receiver or an impact pass rusher in round 1.
If they re-sign Tomlinson, Williams, both, or neither. If both are back, not sure if that is a wise use of assets. Especially considering other holes on the roster.
And AT BEST you're at even (though with a better cap situation..agreed)
I doubt he'd be better than Tomlinson - who is pretty much a given, consistent, a team leader and somewhat injury proof-
and he might be a lot worse.
But most importantly, you haven't improved.
If there's a replacement for Tomlinson it's BJ Hill, who would permit Lawrence to go to the nose. In that event, Tomlinson becomes expendable. Otherwise sign Tomlinson and use that precious draft pick at another position. Like most generalizations I'd add a qualifier: Unless Barmore is overwhelmingly the BPA.
We could cut Shepard for the cap savings and while we’re at it trade Thomas for a good CB or EDGE guy. I’m sure trading Barkley could bring us whatever position we didn’t get in the Thomas trade. And we’d still have Engram for Jones to throw to. That would be enough, right.
Watching the 49ers and Cardinals dismantle our defense with simple outside zone concepts should lead us to realize that the 3-4 is designed to let linebackers roam free and make plays.
If we have no playmaking linebackers...wtf is the point
We can’t invest more picks on the D line. We just can’t afford to do that
I agree with the poster above about Rousseau or paye. 2 terrible prospects in my mind not worthy of the 11th pick. Rousseau to me isn’t an edge player. He’s clearly a 4-3 DE. He will not stand up in the nfl and will not play in space. He isn’t even a scheme fit. Paye will be a victim of a lack of combine. If there was a combine he would be a standout. His film to me doesn’t look great. He isn’t explosive. I don’t see the freak tabs that he’s been labeled with.
I’ve been steady with my thought process. We need skill guys and offensive line help or a CB2 to compete with yiadom and love. That should be the focal point of this draft with the 11th pick and beyond. Realistically, at 11, the guys who can potentially be there who we may target, and some I don’t want, are:
BTW, Giants should not discount his most important "ability" -- availability. I don't think he's missed a game w/ us(?) That alone adds a LOT of value to him, can't just replace that w/ another draft pick or FA. I'd pay him.
And this is probably academic, but... If we back up the Brinks truck for LW and DT "has" to leave, then drafting DT actually makes a ton of sense as we'd get him for 4-5 years on a rookie cheap-o contract, no?

This wouldn't be a remote thrower. This would be a remote smasher.
He’d be a great target in a small trade down.
Another DT would not necessarily be bad. Playing three huge linemen seemed to work well for the Giants last year. But only if BPA.
While I wouldn’t love it, I wouldn’t hate it assuming WR is addressed in FA/R2, and CB/EDGE are also addressed with early picks/FA
Barmore probably a step up from DT in terms of pass rushing ability
Then, if they add an EDGE guy like Lawson in FA or Roche in R3, that front 7 looks good on paper.
Would need a WR in the mix. Maybe sign Corey Davis and draft a guy in R4 (I really like Dazz Newsome) or draft Marshall/Collins in R2
