Don't want to speculate, but just saw that picture. From my personal experience, that 99% looks like a dude that's on drugs that hasn't slept or slept for little just trying to bulldog through the day. There's being on no sleep sober and no sleep on drugs. Certainly looked more the latter. Just imo.
You got all that from a picture of a wrecked car? Give me a fucking break. But you don’t want to speculate.
It’s a windy road, he could have taken a curve at too high a speed and lost control. Or an animal could have run in front of him. But I don’t want to speculate.
I guess I wasn't completely clear, but I was responding to his comment from the interview. Saw a picture from that.
When I got prescribed Ambien it's a very interesting drug. I was straight out for like 7 hours, would occasional sleep eat, and your tolerance certainly goes up. You'd wake up like you slept, but not well rested. Also some cognitive issues as far as learning goes on a daily basis which I guess 90 percent of the people that take it have no idea is a side effect. Probably why so many idiots walking around just prescription drugged up to the gills living in blissful ignorance.
Totally disagree. I think in a weird way with everything he’s gone though, then winning the Masters, he’s as popular as ever.
I saw him at the Tour Championship in Atlanta on a Saturday in 2018. The crowd definitely followed him, but not at the level they did when I was at the '06 PGA Championship the Saturday of that tournament.
Far more.
Jack has always been and will always be the GOAT.

I don't think Woods is on the MJ/LeBron level in 2021. 2008? Sure, but his star has fallen quite a bit.

I was pretty indifferent on Tiger, but that documentary that just came out made me like him a lot.
Prayers for a full recovery so he can enjoy his children.
Yeah just losers like Arnold Palmer, Gary player, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson...Tiger in fact had a distinct lack of competition especially early in his career.
Hope it wasn't his femur, but since it the ankle I'd guess Tibia or fibula(lower leg).
From the look of that wreck, yes it could have been a lot worse.
Not sure how he's not at the Jordan, Gretzky, LeBron level of star (in 2021), IMO he definitely is.
Not just casual interest either, playing and watching.
Hope he fully recovers.
Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia. Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins," Mahajan added. "Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling."

Side note i'm sure the leg trauma treatment came first but i'm wondering if he did any additional damage to his back. Really hope not.

what competition did he have? Tiger is the GOAT.

Exactly. They were always trying to find someone to make his rival, the sports media anyway. They tried with David Duval, then it was Sergio Garcia, and then Mickelson. Mickelson was probably the closest thing to a real competitor, but not really.
I’m not minimizing Tiger at all, but Nicklaus definitely faced tougher competition and you also have to keep in mind the technology differences between Nicklaus’ era and Tiger’s. Try hitting some blades irons from the 60’s or 70’s vs. the equipment of the late 90’s and beyond.
Seems very fortunate to be alive or not hurt much worse.
I also think some of his top end competition has been short changed - Phil, Ernie, Singh and to an extent McIlroy have all been good competition. But the explosion of talent has really kept it from being as top heavy as it was 25+ years ago.
There's also been a massive and frequent change to courses and equipment, something that's also leveled the playing field.

How did Ncklaus face tougher competition? There were and and are more golfers playing today than there were 40 years ago. And the tech advances go both ways. Tiger certainly reaps the rewards of that tech but so does the competition.
More golfers means more comp. Tiger also had to clear many more hurdles than Jack did. Not to mention his wack job father and the pressures that brought with it.
Prayers to Tiger for a full recovery. Quite honestly we all should be thankful that Tiger is alive.

Yeh that’s the thing. The level of talent in golf once Tiger hit his 30s was at an all time high ironically all because of him.
holy shit, I'm no doctor but seems like he's lucky he didn't lose that leg.

The money available in modern golf is a double edge sword. Yes - it’s made the overall level of competition higher, as more players can afford to stay on tour. But perversely it’s meant that fewer players reach the truly elite level.
Over 100 tour players now earn over $1 million a year. That’s less than it seems since golfers have high expenses they have to pay - their caddy, travel, hotels, etc. But even after that you make a pretty comfortable living.
And that’s the problem - players can make a nice living without making family sacrificies. Players who could be great and win handfuls of majors don’t reach that level. Michelson for example had the talent to win 5-6 more majors. But he didn’t make the sacrifices until later in his career when his kids were older.
In Jack’s day that wasn’t an option. If you didn’t win, you weren’t going to be able to stay out on tour very long. As a result, many talented golfers left the tour before they made it. But on the other hand, it drove more golfers to reach to reach the truly elite level: Palmer. Player, Watson, Trevino, Ballesteros. Tiger didn’t face that level of elite.

If they went head to head at their peak of their primes, I would bet my house Tiger would beat Jack.
I wouldn't count out Tiger either. He can definitely come back from this. I do worry more about his back long term than the leg injuries...
Where did you see this?

From here:
Anish Mahajan, chief medical officer at Harbor-UCLA hospital where Woods is being treated, revealed he has suffered 'comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones.'
That means the bones - more commonly known as the shinbone and calf bone - have splintered into more than two pieces, and have come through the skin.
Woods also suffered 'additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle', Mahajan said, without elaborating further.
In order to treat the injuries, Mahajan said a metal rod was inserted into Woods' tibia which is being stabilized with rods and pins.
Additional screws and pins have been inserted into his foot and ankle, Mahajan added.
Membranes covering Woods' leg muscles were also cut to relieve pressure in the leg from swelling, he said.
He described the injuries as 'serious', and could not give a prognosis or say whether Woods will be able to play golf again.

A report today said he was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit the curb which sent him into the other lane. At that point, there wouldn't have been much he could have done to brake or stop the car as it started to roll.

What an accomplishment by Nicklaus who is the GOAT.. Woods a close second. All the golf pros can thank Woods for the prize money increases over the past 25 years.

Of all the things you would bet your house on, this is it?
Jack was the goods too so hopefully you can find a safer bet...

Eli is 2 for 2 vs Brady. Who's the GOAT?
Certainly there's more to being good at golf than just being able to hit the ball a mile, but that would give anyone an advantage. And is there any specific aspect of the game where one could say Jack would've had a clear advantage?
People seem to forget (maybe they never saw Jack play ) as to how far he outhit his competition. Just sayin!!!

Yes, driving accuracy, which was always the weakest area, in Tigers game. No pun intended.

Not to discredit Woods' accolades, but technology in golf ball/club engineering was in a "boom" in the early-mid 2000's and in a time where most tour folks eval'd their game just by merely hitting balls on range with the coach behind them to see how "it" flew. Nike invested a ton in technology for Woods' game and they got into the ball/club game and did fairly well with his name brand.....it surely helped him beat a lot of the competition early on. Being 20 years old and likely a true pioneer to promote technology in golf shafts/balls helped him greatly in a field of aging country clubbers.
Jack and Tiger had every shot in the bag, played a set of blades at the time, and putters were clutch....that's one thing technology doesn't necessarily enhance...even today. I think it was more of an opportune time for Tigers success with the 'tech" boom. He's still a great and sadly won't play for a while, if ever again professionally.

Persimmon and a balata ball 275 yds...I'd imagine his game today would be just as elite if not more today. The balata balls i've hit back in the day spun a ton and wouldn't last more than 9 holes without wedge tear.
And is there any specific aspect of the game where one could say Jack would've had a clear advantage?
Tiger may have juiced a little also when he sized up....purely speculative, but wouldn't be surprised. Jack only juiced up with drinks after a win.

Can you imagine what distance Nicklaus would get in his prime with current driver and ball technology. I am sure he would be one of the longest hitters on the tour.

Disagree. Nike clubs were hot garbage. They sold because of tiger. Now tiger wasn't playing the crap nike was selling.
Tiger and Jack both played blades. The club heads in blades haven't changed much over the years. The difference in the shafts. Advantage tiger.
Driver is a different animal. As a decent player, about a 10 handicap from the time I was 18 until now (54), the fact that I hit it further now than I did playing persimmon wood at 18 I think Jack would hit it just as far as the guys do today.
It's not about equipment or who they played against. Jack just had a better career.

Bro ya should agree, Never said the clubs were good and never played em either. Yes, they sold because of Tiger's name brand, and yes he didn't play off-the-shelf stuff.
