Walter Payton and Ed "Too Tall" Jones. From the Giants, the "Hefty Lefty" and "Pillsbury Throw Boy" were funnier before Lorenzen sadly died too young from his obesity. Elvis "Toast" Patterson (I believe a name given by his teammates).

One football name I can't warm-up to is "Danny Dimes"... ugh.

Mercury Morris couldn't have been anything but an NFL RB.

HaHa Clinton-Dix, especially considering that he was born the year before Bill Clinton was first elected president. Best NFL foreshadowing name ever?

Conrad Dobler ONLY could have been a ridiculously nasty O-lineman.

I always felt Guy Whimper was an unfortunate name. So ... NOT best names.

Sam Bam Cunningham was a great name, although I suppose that was including a nickname. But accurate to how he ran the football.

Quentin Jammer was a perfect name for a DB.

Just celebrated Presidents' Day, so Lincoln Kennedy gets a mention here.

I can’t believe you left out Tuffy Leemans who is in the Giant’s Ring of Honor. You must be younger than I am. I attended the Giants-Brooklyn Dodger game on December 7, 1941 which was “Tuffy Leemans Day” (besides the start of WWII). Thus I’m sure I am older than you and almost everybody on this site.
