NFT: Katz Deli .... Is it really all that?

MotownGIANTS : 2/24/2021 2:15 pm
Is it worth all the extra "hurdles" ordering it from another state price etc ...
there are so few good delis left
Shirk130 : 2/24/2021 2:19 pm : link
I would go ahead and order. Their hotdogs are amazing as is the pastrami.

It is all I've had there, so can't speak to anything else.

What is your #1 ... Will they deliver nationally?
Katz is great (Langer's in LA is better, but that's another story)
Stan in LA : 2/24/2021 2:39 pm : link
Anybody order Katz to be delivered by shipping via UPS?
How was it when it arrived?

Yes.

35 bucks a pound?
Platos : 2/24/2021 2:50 pm : link
about 20 if its not sliced and you have to prep it for hours before you could cut into it....

i think i'd rather try to make my own
In a word, YES
Matt M. : 2/24/2021 2:53 pm : link
But, it is expensive. My boss ordered a package to be shipped over the summer and her friend said it was all great. I would prefer to get it fresh and hot. But, it is the best pastrami on rye I've ever had.
I wouldn't order..
FatMan in Charlotte : 2/24/2021 2:55 pm : link
from Katz for delivery.

But going to the Deli itself is well worth it. Not really confident the food travels well and half the enjoyment with Katz is the atmosphere to go along with the food.

The hype is real when you're there. But I'm not sure at home it comes anywhere close to the real thing.
Agree with FMiC.....
Simms11 : 2/24/2021 3:17 pm : link
You need to go there. Food is fabulous kosher deli cuisine. Not in the best neighborhood, but definitely worth a trip. Used to be a fan of Carnegie and Stage Deli’s as well, however they closed down. There’s still a few more around the city, but nothing like Katz’s.
If you order
Producer : 2/24/2021 3:21 pm : link
pastrami on rye with mustard and sour pickle. Maybe a Dr. Brown's cream soda to go with it..

you are basically getting the best in the world. Only Langer's in Los Angeles is competitive.

Agree 100%. There's something to the experience of watching them hand slice the pastrami (and giving you a slice or two to nibble on). It is not only the best pastrami around, but the biggest pastrami sandwich.

I don't know about local delivery, but the shipping overnight is supposed to be fresh (vacuum sealed), but you still have to heat the pastrami, make the sandwich, etc.

I won't even go to their offshoot near me in the Dekalb Market. I want it where the cook it and in the atmosphere of the original Katz.
It’s amazing!
Daniel in Kentucky : 2/24/2021 3:33 pm : link
I wouldn’t have it shipped though.
There are a few amazing pastrami and rye I’ve had in my life and that was one of the very few. No hype. Pickles are awesome too.
Nice feed back ...
MotownGIANTS : 2/24/2021 3:36 pm : link
thanks ...
Nope

Don't go in the summer, they have flies buzzing all around place. They make a nice sandwich but its not exactly Mecca.
it's excellent

but I would encourage everyone to find their local deli and spend your money there.

That;s part of the problem. there are very few real delis left. I'm in Brooklyn and I have none anywhere near me. I used to travel 20+ minutes to one in Gravesend and they closed. The only one near me is a Montreal inspired deli-like spot. It is a fancy/fusion take on delis and overpriced.

My favorite is Harold's deli.

Used to go with HopeJ when we went to games. She called it the "deli with the big food". It was outstanding, haven't been in a while.

I may have actually preferred the pastrami from 2nd ave deli. both are excellent though, man I'm craving some right now with a doc browns
My daughter sent me a Katz gift box last year
ChathamMark : 2/24/2021 4:43 pm : link
Came packaged nicely, all meats frozen. Got 3 vacuum sealed bags of corned beef, pastrami, brisket. Easy to re-heat. Was a great treat, and the pickles were very good too!
Katz's pastrami
Burt in Alameda : 2/24/2021 4:59 pm : link
is certainly good but I do not like the cut of meat and prefer the Carnegie Deli meat and cut. Plus the Carnegie Deli sandwich was and is much larger. Of course, you can still order the Carnegie Deli sandwich on line or from the Las Vegas restaurant.

AS a second sandwich, so we could split and share, I would get turkey (fresh cooked and sliced), chopped liver, onions on rye. Delicious. Dr. Brown's Black Cherry, pickles, and may a knish. Perfect.

Carnegie was inferior to Katz's by a pretty wide margin. I lived a couple of blocks from Carnegie for 10 yrs and a few blocks from Katz's for 15 yrs. Carnegie was very good. Katz's is world class.

ok I happened to have an appointment two blocks from Sarge's today. Never had Sarge's previously. The Pastrami sandwich cost me $24+ before tip. It's a very good sandwich. Pastrami is lean and machine cut. Katz's is better, imo, with it's rough, chunky hand sliced pastrami. Sarge's is more in the Second Ave Deli vein - both great. You can't go wrong with any of these delis, imo. But Katz's is still king of New York.
Simple Answer: Yes, It Is All That,
clatterbuck : 2/26/2021 3:18 pm : link
Pastrami, of course, corned beef, of course, and, imo, best hot dogs in the world. Hand-carving the meat also makes a difference.

They deliver to California. I ordered their stuff twice (Meal for 4) out here. Once directly from Katz and Amazon also offer's their products. Was not disappointed either time. Quality stuff.
