NFT: 'Frasier' is being rebooted, with Kelsey Grammer

Frasier Crane is still listening.

The hit 90s sitcom "Frasier" is set to return to screens, with Kelsey Grammer reprising his role as radio psychiatrist Frasier Crane in the reboot, ViacomCBS confirmed Wednesday.

The show, which ended 17 years ago, starred Grammer in the persnickety titular character and was a ratings success during its 11-year run. It will be a flagship offering on ViacomCBS's new streaming service Paramount+.

It will be the second time Grammer, 66, reprises the role that has defined his career -- having first appeared as Crane in the mid-80s on the equally beloved series "Cheers."

But there was no word as to whether his supporting cast members will join him in the new series, meaning the future of Frasier's brother Niles, played by David Hyde Pierce, and Jane Leeves' Daphne remain unclear.

I think they mean revival, not reboot

Badly misused term.

Yes Punky Brewster is indeed a revival... Punky's all grown up and has her own family. But it does look like she's bringing a Punky like character who needs a home into her family...

Good clarification.

Jane Leeves character just got promoted to CEO of the hospital

on "The Resident" on Fox.

Her promotion leads to all types of storylines as the state bought the hospital and the governor appointed her CEO.

I don't know if she would leave that show for a Frazier reboot or maybe she could try to do both?

I loved the original and would be happy to just have it as that.

Good show. I used to watch it all the time in the late 90s/early 00s.

Watching it again here and there on Hulu.
Can someone explain Paramount+ to me?
barens : 2/25/2021 5:29 pm : link
Is Frasier going to be a CBS show? Or do you have to pay for the streaming service?
Paramount+ is relaunch of CBS All Access

It is CBS's streaming service that does have a fee. There are some shows that are only available on the that platform.

The Punky Brewester bit was news to me.

Watched the trailer, Punky has grown into quite the SNACK!
It's my favorite show

But John Mahoney passed and I think David Hyde Pierce declined. So I'm not sure what it will look like.

Rather see a reboot of cheers.
Frasier is one of my favorite shows of all time

Not sure how good a show without all of the characters would be, though. Jane Leeves said last week she wouldn't be leaving her current show for a new Frasier. David Hyde Pierce hasn't said anything, but he did say a few years ago that the show should be left in the past and he wouldn't be interested in reprising the role of Niles.

The article I read speculated that it's going to use the same premise as the original, only with a now aging Frasier needing to move in with Freddie. I'd give it a chance, but I suspect it wouldn't work.
Also it will not be set in Seattle

I don't know if it was 'minor'. He was a pretty significant character in 'Cheers'.
Frasier became a regular character on Cheers

But originally the role was supposed to be brief. He was originally contracted for a handful of episodes, but the character was so well received that they added him to the regular cast.

We got... Dexter back. Frasier back.

Please, please don't fuck all this up by just focusing on the storyline and not ... eye-roll... other things.
nothing can fuck Dexter up more

its return likely won't be very good but it's going to be difficult to out duel the ending of its initial run with an even worse effort.

I wouldn't be surprised if it still sucks.

Reading the tea leaves with Dexter, I've read that everyone involved with Dexter weren't happy with the last couple of seasons, and they are going to try and make up for that, which gets me excited.
