NFT: Will paramount and/or peacock be free if you have cable?

bhill410 : 2/25/2021 5:58 pm
Was trying to figure this out with the news that the USMNT World Cup qualifiers will be on CBS/paramount for non-home games. With more of these assets moving to streaming apps has there been any announcement that subscribing to nbc sports or cbs sports will give us access or will this be an entirely different service?

The cord cutting movement is really causing a pain in my can.
I have Xfinity in central NJ

and Peacock is included with my cable package, as is Netflix and HBO Max.

I’m hoping Paramount+ will be as well.
Likely not
UConn4523 : 2/25/2021 7:01 pm : link
Paramount+ is going to have major movies releases after 45 days in theaters, can’t see them giving that away at the low cable price. It’s only $5 anyway if you like their content.
It feels like streaming has swung too far the other way..

How many of these services are really needed? Do I really need Peacock for The Office when it’s on non-stop on Comedy Central?

I’ve got a nice deal with Fios where they included HBO, Showtime & Starz.
It’s all going to be reaggregated one day
UConn4523 : 2/25/2021 7:39 pm : link
the only difference will be you can just sign up and cancel and not need hardware.

But a lot of these companies also need to combat Covid. Movie budgets have been spent, they need to recoup the investment somehow.
Glad I never cut the cord.

.
No it won’t be free under any circumstances.

Hence the plus.

Cord cutting certainly has made life confusing. I used to enjoy exploring new things to watch on TV. Now I don’t even know where to look to find out what to watch. I don’t even know who’s famous anymore. On the bright side, I have a lot more time to explore other interests.
It was nice when I could just pay way to much to Fios
bhill410 : 2/26/2021 8:41 am : link
But knew I could get whatever I wanted. Now I still pay way to much to Fios and have no clue what else I need.

I've changed my viewing habits a bit, so I don't have any of the movie channels that I used to with cable. Between Netflix, Hulu ($2/month promo), Prime (split with family), Apple TV (free for 12 months) I cover just about everything. I'll go on/off HBO Max when theres a series I want to watch.

When it was just netflix my cable bill was $200 + $10 for netflix.

Now my cable bill is $160 and everything above costs me about the same as when none of the services but netflix existed.

Its basically a wash and I don't have to worry about figuring out Giants or Yankee games.
ohh

add Disney+ for $7 (absolute steal given I have a 5 year old).
Probably some free parts that you can use
eli4life : 2/26/2021 9:34 am : link
But the good shit you got to pay. Wwe network is shutting down and moving to peacock next month so you know that won’t be free lol

it wont be free. wwe network user here
You can download the Peacock app
Section331 : 2/26/2021 9:42 am : link
and watch it for free, even if you don't have cable. I use YouTubeTV and watch Peacock at times. Peacock also has a pay version that has fewer ads and premium content.

I'm not sure if Paramount+ will have a free version of the service, but I doubt it.
...

I like the free content on Peacock so far. Wish the UI was better (from PS4)
YTTV would be perfect...
BamaBlue : 2/26/2021 10:11 am : link
if it kept YES Network and picked-up the History Channel. Still the best streaming package out there, but it's no longer cheap.

Agreed. I planned on ditching cable once the new year hit but once realized they dropped YES it just didn't make sense anymore. And with COVID and not traveling as much, needing remote access off my network isn't necessary either.

This is basically what I have too. It aint perfect but I get what I need and can watch all the sports. I didn't know apple TV is free for 12 mths, or at least possibly free. I will look into this.
For years I used to get all the movie channels with Direct TV
steve in ky : 2/26/2021 10:23 am : link
I still have Direct TV because I like to have an easy set channel lineup to access but last year dropped to a more basic package because with the PS4 I can stream Amazon Prime, Tubi, Peacock, Crackel, and a couple others and find plenty of shows and movies beyond what I get on Direct.

So far that has worked out nicely

I should have clarified, Apple gave out a free year when upgrading to the iPhone 12. Otherwise its $5, still really cheap. The content isn't vast but there's a few high end shows and their movies are starting to hit the platform.
CBS All Access Is Becoming Paramount Plus
clatterbuck : 2/26/2021 3:09 pm : link
on March 4. It's a paid subscription. If you already have CBS All Access, no action required.
