Houston Releases RB Duke Johnson and C Nick Martin

letting Nick Martin go, a starting enter with good production, without getting anything for him. He is a solid starter and was a bargain at 6.2 million too. Holy cow that kid just hit the lottery!

but nothing special — certainly nothing to live up to the way that one guy hyped him. I liked him coming out of college, too. But you can't get everyone you like, and not everyone you like pans out.

That Zeitler has no leverage in this market that 6M was the top he could expect to get. Perhaps I was overestimating that.

The Giants could pick up Martin have either him or Gates move to RG and release Zeitler and save themselves a ton of money.

This is just the beginning. There a a lot of teams that need to shed a lot of salary. And the teams that look like they have a lot of space also have numerous players they need to resign. There is not nearly as much cap space out there as people seem to think. New Orleans and Philly both need to get themselves to get under the cap. There is going to be a glut of veteran players on the market. Basic economics, too much supply not enough demand, means contract will go wayyyy down.

He wouldn’t have to move from Texas either.

Players who are cut and signed by other teams do NOT factor into the compensatory draft pick formula, meaning that you can sign as many as you want and not have it affect the compensation that you can receive.

I say cut Zeitler now and sign him.

On waivers? Martin would free up gates to play guard or right tackle. Just a thought.

Johnson was overpaid but cutting Martin is strange.
