I was a big Ranger fan as a kid. When I got married, we moved to LI and I got Islander season tickets, starting in their second year, and held them for 10 years. Those were the glory years- 4 Stanley Cups. Then I started skiing and was in Vermont most of the winter, so I gave up my tickets. Good thing, cause the franchise tanked after I left. I moved to Utah, with no pro team, and esssentially didn't watch hockey for 25-30 years. My first year in AZ I went to a Coyote gane and they reminded me of the LI Ducks. With the Covid shit, I've gotten a little bored and started recording Coyote games, but they still looked like they had no players. I see today that they're above .500. Are they worth watching, or does the franchise just suck?
I am a fan of all hockey, but if they were my local team I'd watch.
Sorry, dealing with your issues is above my pay grade

I grew up on the Island and I hate fucking Islanders too. And their front running "fans".
But you're okay Bill, just misguided :-).
But seriously, you just became an Isles fan because you moved? just so happened to coincide with their glory years??? :-)
Yearly speculation they will leave, revolving door ownership, constantly trying to fleece any city they can into building an arena for non-existent fans.

I only got to see an occasional Rangers game. The Islanders were a new team, only a half hour drive from me, and I had a chance to buy season tickets right off the red line. I wasn't really a big fan when I signed on, but it was an easy team to root for and watch grow. Plus, the were on cable TV. And yeah, I was just lucky that those were the glory years. I'm sure most Jets/Mets/Devils fans went the same route- former Yankee/Dodger/bb Giants/fb Giants/Ranger fans who bought into new teams for whatever reasons.
I don't want to just watch hockey. If I get back into the game I want a team to root for

you're right about those things. Hopefully, this is a better, committed ownership. It was sad what lousy ownership did to the Islanders.
They're fun to watch at times, plus think of it like I did growing up in CT when we'd get Whalers tickets. We went to watch the other teams (and eventually the Whalers got good - but as a Habs fan it was cool to see my team as a visitor).

LOL. Using "Front running fans" and "Islanders" in the same sentence.

You're probably too young to understand :)

During the dynasty years? Ya, I can 1000% see that and people being really annoying/obnoxious. I do think the last 40 years have pretty much rid the Isles of anything close to bandwagon fans haha
Only compared to Orr. Unless you mean Jean.
Me too!!

Exactly. My first game was the LI Ducks in 1969 at the Commack Arena. So my hockey and Ranger fandom precedes the Islanders.
