Matt Lombardo’s Mock Draft

Vin_Cuccs : 2/27/2021 11:29 am
1. TE Kyle Pitts, Florida
2. Edge Ronnie Perkins, Oklahoma
3. CB Benjamin St. Juste, Minnesota
4. WR Seth Williams, Auburn
6. C/G Michael Menet, Penn State
6. Edge Tarron Jackson, Coastal Carolina

As a side note, the rational for selecting Menet, Lombardo says the following:

“The Giants started Nick Gates at center, for the first time in his football career, last season to mixed results.

Meanwhile, former second-round pick Will Hernandez regressed dramatically under a new coaching staff as fifth-round rookie Shane Lemieux was a colossal disappointment, replacing Hernandez at left guard.”

Very uninformed, short-sighted analysis here. Gates was the best lineman in the team last season, and performed extremely well after a bumpy first week. “Mixed results” is just flat out wrong.

Hard for Lemieux, as a 5th round pick, to be a “colossal disappointment.”No one expected him to come in and be a finished product. He need some development. I’d argue that as a 5th round rookie, despite growing pains, he performed admirably.

This is what is frustrating about the beat writers for this team: jumping to conclusions, and/or making incorrect statements.

I really have not agreed with him on anything player related

He has made some comments about coaching in the past and organizationally that make a lot of sense but I just don’t agree with him on evaluating players
I don’t think there were mixed results for Gates

at all, once he got the expected initial stuff out of the way

a sixth rounder solves the guard problem.

Okie dokie.
Matt Lombardo is a doofus Eagle-fan Giants troll...
sb from NYT Forum : 2/27/2021 12:13 pm : link
...that somehow got a job at the New York Post to cover the Giants.

He also knows little about football in general and just makes stuff up.

Lemieux a colossal disappointment?!? He was a fifth round pick! No fifth round pick can be a colossal disappointment. Plus he wasn't.
Lombardo is a boob

Why bother....what he says
if you're frustrated with him
gidiefor : Mod : 2/27/2021 12:28 pm : link
why post his stuff and links to his article -- when he gets clicks to his articles all it serves to do is keep him on the payroll

Isn't it Dunleavy that got the job with the Post? I believe Lombardo works for a variety of websites.

It’s still newsworthy and worth sharing.

Just simply voicing frustration.

Any good writer should be open to criticism. In the event that Lombardo sees this commentary, maybe he can improve his craft.

He’s getting clicks and views regardless. A few more from BBI readers looking at his material won’t get him a promotion in itself....and if it does, then we’ll get a new reporter, which would be a win!
I like Pitts and Williams
81_Great_Dane : 2/27/2021 1:47 pm : link
Hope the Giants get Williams. Those guys tick the “big” and “playmaker” boxes. I don’t think they’re enough but there are only six picks.

I know St-Juste had a big week at Senior Bowl but is he really a 3rd-rounder? I guess if you want a tall corner to tick the “big” box again.

I have no strong feelings about the rest. My question is: What board is he using and does it account for scheme fit?
This guy is Brutal
Bruner4329 : 2/27/2021 2:08 pm : link
So he basically thinks the 3 linemen he mentioned are crap and yet he then waits to the 6th round to pick an OL and a center at that. You would think these guys should know a few things about football.
I think he's even wrong about the first round pick
Grizz99 : 2/27/2021 2:09 pm : link
I think it's almost a certainty that Sewell, chase and Pitt will go very early.
In effect, it's not that he is likely wrong, anybody and any pic is likely wrong; more to the point, it's that he can't be right.

Lombardo is literally the biggest
bLiTz 2k : 2/27/2021 3:36 pm : link
douche that I have ever seen on the Giants beat...going back to the early 2000s.

Hes a clown...his content isnt worth the clicks that he receives.

Sewell, almost certainly gone in the top 10. Chase, nearly as certain but could fall. It would be kind of freaky if 2 or 3 of the big three receivers fell, but Chase is the easiest decision for the Giants IMO. Run to the podium.

Pitts, I bet it's around 50-50 that he's available at 11. Depends on how many QBs go first and then whether Dallas and some other teams in the top 10 prioritize secondary and take Farley and/or Surtain.

There's a non-trivial chance that one (but only one) of Chase/Smith/Waddle, AND Pitts, AND Parsons are all on the board when the Giants are on the clock. If Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Fields, Sewell, Farley, Surtain and two WRs go, that's nine guys. If someone takes Slater or Owusu-Koramoah or Rousseau, that's 10. That could very easily happen.
