NFT: Nest Wifi w Verizon Fios? (versus Google Wifi w Verizon)

markky : 2/27/2021 5:46 pm
1. Is anyone using Nest Wifi with Verizon Fios? I have a long/odd shaped house and it's a long way from the basement router to the upstairs.

2. Is it easy to setup? (I don't have FIOS TV, just internet). Are there any websites with good instructions on how to set it up?

3. For those that use regular Google Wifi with Verizon, is it easy to set up?

Thanks very much in advance.

Not exactly what you're asking, but

I replaced old Apple base stations with a pair of TP-Link Deco 9 mesh WiFi stations. Works like a charm for our long-ish apartment. Easy to set up with a phone app. "Main" Deco is our network router; I have a switch plugged into it and am running Ethernet to our home entertainment center devices, while also running WiFi. The system is expandable should we move to a bigger place.

There are probably newer models with different features. Ours has smart-home-hub capability, which we don't get a lot of use out of. (We have several devices that have some smart home hug ability and none seems to do everything we want.) I think TP-Link is phasing out the hub feature.
Tried the google nest

Then ditched those and added two Verizon extenders. No more problems. No blocked areas etc. it’s all about speed and range.

Is your Verizon extender one of the ones on this page? If so, which one (first, second, third)? Thanks much.

Set up is really easy. You use the Google WiFi app.

Regarding nest vs google wifi, they are the same thing. The difference is that nest wifi hubs are also smart speakers so they can listen to your commands/ play back media.

If you don't want your WiFi extender to double as a smart speaker, just get the google version, not the nest version
Google wifi is excellent. Next will be wifi 6

We have the first edition google wifi system. Works great with Xfinity 300 down service. 5 computers. 4 phones and three tvs with no issues. That includes 3 computers running zoom at the same time. If your going to buy now make sure it supports wifi 6 standard.
I have Optimum, not Verizon,

but I installed Google Nest a few months ago, and it’s been fantastic. Coverage upstairs and in the basement is much better. It simple to set up.
