Does this catapult the six foot two wide receiver into the top 10?
I don't know what the answer is, but there were already raves about this guy. And the fact is, I'm uneasy with Waddle and Smith. My very tentative and unqualified thoughts are that this guy or Pitts are The Playmakers we desperately need.
Thoughts?
I think Bateman is a safer pick than Pitts, Waddle or Smith — but not necessarily better.

Played under 150lbs
Feels he will have trouble getting free off line.
I do not know enough.....but Bateman has been my favorite WR....he seems like a Julio Jones type

I’ve seen comps to Keenan Allen and CeeDee Lamb
is a faster Hakeem Nicks.
He may not bring the same magic as Nicks, but there's something similar in Bateman's game.
This guy can play.

Thank you. I didn’t care what his speed was perceived to be, he sure as heck was difficult to catch up to when he raced to the end zone. Sticky hands, ran a variety of routes, good character. What’s not to like?
Don't get me wrong..I really like Bateman
Right now PFN has him around 20th and GBN has him outside the first round, #6 WR (Behind Chase, Smith, Waddle, Toney and Marshall) and #37 overall. I doubt it's going to play out that way.
One thing we know about the Giants: If they have a conviction on a guy, they'll take him and not worry about whether people say he was "overdrafted." So if they like Bateman at #11, it only matters to them if he's still on the board. But y'know, crazy stuff happens at the draft. What happens if Sewell falls? Or Zach Wilson is still on the board and someone offers a haul of picks to take him.
On a different note, btw, check out the year Mohamed Ibrahim had for the Gophers at RB in 2020. It's incredible production in only seven games...I thought for sure he'd enter the draft.
I have heard they play football in other conferences, but come on.

From the article:... For his draft training, Bateman has been working with EXOS, a program that is also simulating the traditional NFL Combine workouts
I agree with whoever said he is a better version of Nicks. I also see some Dez Bryant. A write up I saw compared him to D.K. Metcalf. He has big, strong hands that he uses to snatch the ball out of the air. He also high points the ball well. He has had some drops, but he’s also made some fantastic one handed and contested catches. Of course, so has Engram.
He uses his size and strength to get off the LOS. He takes time to get to full speed, but that is true of most WRs his size. He runs very good routes, but isn’t going to make a lot of defenders miss in the open field. He can be hard to bring down after the catch.
I think he played five games in 2020 before opting out.
He is a late first round or early second but not the 11th pick

Scouts note his ability to vary his release based on coverage/defender/and route with comparisons to Davante Adams and Justin Jefferson.

He moves his feet like a WR. Pitts does not.

Probably because Pitts is a TE that is 2 inches taller and weighs 30 more pounds
So was Ramses Barden. Greg Brady also "fit the suit" but sucked as a guitar player...

True, but there have been plenty of posts that Pitts has the ability of a big WR.
+1.
The last thing I want is another "size, speed athlete" with questionable hands. That's Evan Engram. From the little video I've watched of him, even his highlights, despite his straight line speed it doesn't look as if he regularly gets a lot of separation, and he sometime struggles with contested catches.
I'd be much happier, if they want a target at #11, and went with any of Chase, Smith, Waddle or Pitts, one of whom should by there. Provided, of course, they check out medically.

got the size, speed and strength, but I don't see him getting separation and I question his hands. He reminds me of Engram.

Just to play Devil's Advocate: DK Metcalf fell in the draft because people were just thinking he was all physical tools (size, speed, strength) and thought he hadn't proven enough in terms of football skills because he was a bit raw. I guess it's sort of a crapshoot when you bet on physical tools and hope the football part will pan out, but sometimes it does and truly pays off. I haven't watched any of Bateman in college so I'm not sure how good he looks nor how good he "should" look based on whatever his experience level is.

metcalf is exactly what people predicted he'd be. he's a deep threat who isn't a great route runner. a majority of his big plays come on scramble improve plays. he'd have significantly different stats is wilson wasn't his qb
If there's a way to keep him healthy, he's a steal in the 2nd. If not, he's a gamble in the 6th.
How can you say....he is exactly what we thought he was?
As for his production in 2020, sure it was down, but his QB Tanner Morgan was downright awful as opposed to 2019.

I think you underrate Metcalf, but there are definitely far more busts like Stephen Hill of the Jets, Hakeem Butler than there are successes like Mike Evans or Hakeem Nicks.
Are you saying he is the only one you like because you assume Chase just won't be available, or do you genuinely only like Bateman and specifically do not like Chase (or Smith/Waddle)?

So a company that he's paying to improve his combine numbers released news that Bateman ran a 40-time that reflects that they have improved his combine numbers?
This has less than zero value, IMO. The source here is just an ad for EXOS.

Yeah, there is definitely spin with this 40 time, but I wouldn't see it is less than worthless. I mean, if he goes out and runs a 4.7 at his pro day, EXOS will look ridiculous. I'm sure the 40 is gussed up a bit, but I'd be surprised if his official time was that much slower. I'd guess high 4.4's, which would be a really good time for a guy his size.

Unless he's legitimately in the mid-4.4's or lower when his pro day rolls around, I'd actually expect him to opt out of his 40 that day, which would further confirm my POV. But EXOS has very little to lose here - no one had heard of them before, and even if Bateman crawls to the finish line on his pro day, they're really no worse off. No one is going to assume they made him slower.
