On WIP in Philadelphia this morning. It’s a great listen about his life and his memorable moments broadcasting. The podcast with Al Michaels start around 1:28 into the show. So fast forward the podcast to that time. Of course there will be a short discussion about Philadelphia Eagles and their Super Bowl. But the interview is well worth listening to. It’s about one hour long.
Al Michaels interview - (
New Window )
According to this article, this is what Boomer had to say about Michaels
But Esiason never felt Michaels gave him a chance to flourish. ''It's hard to do your job when you're trying to offer humor and be provocative and the guy next to you isn't trying to bring it out in you,'' he said. ''Al could have been better for me, and I tried with him, but it never clicked with me because he never wanted it to click.''
I do not want to defend Michaels in any way. But I do not know if he got Boomer fired.
Boomer reaction to being dismissed - ( New Window )
I didn't watch which is interesting to hear. This is all in addition to Ray Didinger who is a great football and sports in general historian. Glen Macnow is also a great radio guy and owns a brewery. I will admit, I did tune out from about 2017 until 2020 though. Philadelphia Eagle positivity is disgusting.
Still is
lol - I remember that. He had to apologize for that remark IIRC.
+1
I am quite sure Boomer got Boomer fired. My impression (I do not know him personally) of him is an arrogant stuff shirt who thinks he is the smartest/funniest guy in the room.
