NFT: Jeep Wrangler owners- tips/hacks?

FranknWeezer : 2/28/2021 10:48 am
Just bought a 10 yr old 2-door hard top Sahara that won’t be a daily driver but more of a cruising/hobby ride. Loving it so far. Kids may be having more fun in it than mom and dad. Ha.

I’m already seeing it is relatively easy to find parts online. For instance, the passenger side view mirror frame is cracked, and a brand new one only cost $37 on Amazon. It’s really simple installation, too. Front bumper is dented and I found a video on YouTube showing how to cut into the back of it and pop it back out with a broom handle and heat gun.

Seems like there are endless accessories and upgrades for these things, too. What sort of tips, tricks, suggestions, etc. do any of you other Wrangler owners have? Appreciate any input.
I liked the roll bar handles.

Trail covers are really convenient too.

I'm sure you probably have them already,

Ive had 2 TJs. Fun, but expensive. Its not like owning a civic that you change the oil and youre good to go. Shit goes wrong, and alot. Im not trying to dissuade you or pee on your parade, but theyre Chryslers. All that being said, great summer ride. A blast.
My tip

would be, (and I say this with the experience of not having done this) when you move to Portugal bring your JK with you. I miss that Jeep

So you traded your Jeep for a great view, and a killer grill. You win.
I bought a 2019 with 1,000 miles on it.

Great deal with 10,000 off sticker. For my kids to use. Two door, soft top. 100,000 mile bumper to bumper dealer warranty. Great in snow. Had it a year with no trouble.
Had a '92 back in the day...

Fun vehicle but also a piece of crap...bought it new...gave me nothing but problems from the day I drove it out of the dealership...I guess Chrysler felt sorry for me....they extended the bumper to bumper warranty without me even asking. Too many issues to list here. I wish you much better luck.
Appreciate all the comments

and hope I have better fortune with mine than some of you apparently had with yours.
we had a 1998 Wrangler

which was my two kids' car they used for the 6-7yrs they were of driving age and before leaving for college. It worked very well as an 'around town' car and gosh was that thing great in the snow. One of the big draws was its underpowered engine, my then-teenage son couldn't really get that thing going very fast.

The first thing I did was join a few of the wrangler user forums, great info there, and a for-sale/parts section too. It was used and neglected so I replaced the rusted-out bumpers w used ones and removed the 'milk carton' end caps. Also added fog lights to the front bumper.

I then bought used 'upgraded' rims (it had the stock metal ones) and larger tires. I did not put in a lift kit, one bc I didn't really like the look, and two bc I didn't want to increase the likelihood of it rolling over. That made a huge difference in the look.

When the soft top starting ripping I replaced it with a used hardtop (in hindsight I should have done this earlier, the hardtop was much quieter and warmer). I also painted the black plastic wheel well extenders, which were super faded, black again. I had to do that every 3-4 years.
My in-laws have had one to plow their driveway

It's a steep and windy driveway so the short turning radius is key. My father in law welded a thing for the plow on the front and hooked up the hydraulics to the engine.

This Jeep is 1994 and has completely rusted out after 20+ years of winter use.

I'm going to buy a new (used) one this fall in time for next winter and we'll outfit it with a plow again.
I'd recommend getting summer doors
