I don’t eat a lot of fast food, but I do enjoy a chicken sandwich from time to time. With all of these chicken sandwiches getting released, I was curious to see if any of these stack up against Chick-fil-a. Ultimately, I’ve been pretty underwhelmed.
It’s funny to me that all these places throw the sandwich in the same bag that CFA started. After all the fanfare around Popeyes in 2019, it’s clear that other places are trying to take advantage.
KFC: I tried their spicy chicken sandwich yesterday. I was thoroughly unimpressed. It did not come close to Popeyes imo. Their spicy chicken was just chicken with a ton of spicy mayo. Bun & pickles were nothing special. Also, no drive thru line at prime lunch hour. No one inside. I think KFC is going to have trouble staying afloat, but they are under the yum! brand umbrella and Taco Bell will likely help keep it going. But, they’ve fallen significantly.
McDonald’s: Meh. Nothing special. I thought their southern style chicken sandwich was their best, but they discontinued those. I thought the sandwich was dry, certainly not enough to compete with CFA. The spicy chicken sandwich was just plain chicken with spicy mayo like KFC.
Popeyes: I like their sandwich, but I mostly feel like crap after eating it. It’s good once every few months.
Wendy’s: I love their spicy chicken sandwich, I’d put it right behind CFA.
CFA: Still the best. It’s no wonder it is ALWAYS packed when going there. They’ve got the best chicken sandwich imo.
So, after trying a lot of these new sandwiches, I still say CFA is best.
but if anyone gets to Portland OR... go to Pine State Bisquits and get the sandwich called... The Reggie. The chicken is brined and it has thick cut bacon, cheddar, sausage gravy on a huge home made busquit
Yes.. I know this is not fast food.
That they’re located in bad neighborhoods?
CFA is still the best sadly. the one here in norwalk ct has lines running up US-1, its insane. i've never seen a place need police escorts.

stabbed over Popeye's. That says something.

Yeah, that could be it.

I think it’s the oil they use. I have the same issue with their food.
I never had Chick Fil-A because there was never one located near me but one opened recently relatively close so I will try that out.
I'm guessing most other fast food joints use vegetable or peanut oils.
The tallow might be why some folks have some issues after eating Popeye's fried food.
Just a guess.
ROAM burger. ( out here in Cali at least) has a spicy chicken sandwich promo running
Gonna check it out , May today
I drive to the Outer Banks often and pass Bojangles but nver stopped. Any opinion on their sandwich?
And strategic post- on a Sunday when CFA is closed.
I like Chick-Fil-A too.
I'll settle for the McDonalds one when in a pinch, but it's a distant 3rd or 4th.
CFA is definitely a go to but shout out to Bojangles (mainly the breakfast one tho)

I forgot to point this out and I should have. Shake Shack makes a very good chicken sandwich.
This deserves a LOL or a thumbs up or something. Well done! (Clearly not enough boomers here.)
popeyes is the best in my opinion. and their biscuits are incredible. however, popeyes is so poorly run it always takes forever to get the sandwich
chick is second best for me. it's always delicious, their fries and dipping sauces are superior to popeyes, and it's very well run. if in a food court with both as options i find myself doing chick over popeyes because of this despite the popeyes sandwich being superior

This is fair. Popeyes chicken sandwich is different than CFA also. Popeyes blows away KFC who just released their own sandwich to compete with Popeyes.

Yeah but Popeye's certainly isn't the only fast food joint with locations in bad neighborhoods. A lot of low-income areas will be hotbeds for both crime and fast food joints, but let's be honest no one is getting stabbed over the Taco Bell chicken sandwich idc where it's located.

popeyes and chick-fil-a are clearly in a level by themselves on this.

you're 100% right about shake shack by the way. that is right up there with the best of them.
Nope just had one yesterday. First time I went there in like 4 years
Also, their new grilled spicy sandwich is excellent.
I can't go wrong either way, because like most of you old farts, I have to limit my amount of fried foods.
The best two are Wendys and Chic Fil A. Not even close.
Wendy's has always been reliable, even at the cheap end of the menu, like the 4-for-$4 specials and the $5 bag meals; the pricier items are better (and bigger). Popeye's is tasty in small doses. We avoid Chick-Fil-A, for reasons unrelated to the food.
As soon as I read this, I gave the "Ba da dum"!
I love their customer service though, best fast food place IMO. Just always a good experience going there and it goes beyond the food, IMO they get customer service and treat customers right.
I don't love their spicy chicken sandwich. I like it, not terrible, but not something I'd make a special trip for.
Recently though after a 7:15 AM hockey game my youngest asked if we could stop at CFA for breakfast. I didn't even know they had breakfast. So we went there, and their "Egg McMuffin" was terrible, but man those Chicken Minis were really good. Fried chicken with some honey on a small slider-like roll.
Wendy's is the best spicy chicken sandwich, it's not close IMO.
Wendys gets a bad rap from a lot of people maybe because there are so many options, but they are consistent.
Popeye's best thing was their dirty rice, but I read they discontinued it. but I admittedly haven't had their spicy chicken.
Shake Shack chicken is no bueno, but they do make a good shake.

I still get the original chicken sandwich whenever my kids request BK, and it's dang tasty.
We also avoid CFA, likely same reasons. And I find them vastly overrated when I have tried it. There’s one nearby with constant lines. Sadly, it’s 2 doors down from the greatest taco place I’ve ever eaten, good food, fresh interesting ingredients/combos....just delicious. Everyone I’ve taken there says the same. As I go in looking at the CFA line I’m always thinking “if these people only knew what was right here.”
