If its about 10 mill a week in cap space. It should add 10 mil to the cap.

This could mean the difference between keeping both LW and DT. I think through some cuts and restructuring the Giants will have about $30 million in cap space. Add another $10 million and it creates some interesting possibilities.
This was known in early February

That is one of the most naive posts I've ever read

You might have something if you could use the game to increase the Giants cap space while limiting everyone else. But as long as everyone gets it -which I think is more likely than not in any peopled by people (sic) - then everything stays the same and you haven't increased the chances of holding Tomlinson and Williams.

If the cap goes up, the ability to keep both players increases because there is more cap money to spend. That's not naivety - it is fact.
this will be watered down football

To illustrate this point, if the cap goes up 10 mil for everybody then LW's ceiling AV probably goes from 21 mil to 23 mil, while the Giants gain 10 mil. It is a plus.

But I'm pretty sure that any contracts that were signed prior to the expanded schedule are increased by one additional game check (up to a max of $250k for the additional week), so the increased cap may not actually translate to additional cap space.

You're correct about the extra game check, but the $250K cap was eliminated. So player payroll will increase by 1/17th to match the extra game. So the cap would need to increase by more than that to create materially more cap room.

Ah, well then there's effectively zero impact to the Giants' ability (or any other team's, for that matter) to sign free agents.

Then again, who could be naive enough to think it would?
