but that's a completely different movie.

Jaws didn't have to involve a shark or been set in a beach town, it could have been a cheetah in the jungle. Does that mean it's not a shark movie?

Just take this back and move on with your life, I know you were probably just trying to outsmart yourself here and it appears you have done it.

I know a lot of people dont like this one because of the Tom Cruise factor, but ive always loved this movie. Thought there was a lot of truth to how it depicted certain parts of the high school football experience, including the middle aged locals who are completely wrapped up in the results of the local high school team.

People don't like that movie because of Tom Cruise? He basically carried the movie. Him and Craig T Nelson.

He's a top 5 actor of all time (in terms of popularity). Isn't he?

Are there people who don't like Tom Cruise acting?

Why am I so behind the times with pop culture?

Yeah, so thats more than likely ME being behind the times with pop culture. When it comes to that its still pretty much 1986 in this house:). And back then, I knew more than a few, in fact a LOT, of guys who just DID NOT like that guy. Then again, all it takes is one comment from the girlfriend or wife while watching Top Gun and thats all she wrote for Mr Cruise.

I think people hate Tom Cruise due to Scientology, not his acting ability. Nevertheless it clouds their judgement of his movies.

It wouldn't be different though, thats my point. The scenes where there was golf involved really didn't have much to do with golf in any meaningful way.

by it, even a little, I just think you are very wrong like not even a little bit right. Seemed like you wanted to equate Caddyshack to your incorrect Die Hard opinion, and it's just a massive, massive fail.

You should feel bad for having this opinion not because I am suggesting it's wrong, but because it's an embarrassingly bad opionion and you should take it back and probably suspend yourself.

I don't think I ever watched 'Caddyshack' from beginning to end, but doesn't it involve a gopher and a golf match at the end? If they were bellhops at a hotel, what would be the corresponding plot devices for the gopher and the golf match?

Excellent call. So many great themes, but had to love the high school football out of western PA passion.

I'd toss in "Varsity Blues", "61" (excellent HBO account of Roger Maris and Mantle chasing Ruth's HR record), and my all-time favorite...

Do you think it does?

Ask yourself right now if you are you trying to list the top ten sports movies in your opinion or are you trying to find a loophole in a list or just be contrarian for no real reason?

think about that for a while (maybe even ponder it for a couple days or weeks) and when you have an answer come back and share it.

are great.

Does that allow it on the list?

Do you think it does?

Ask yourself right now if you are you trying to list the top ten sports movies in your opinion or are you trying to find a loophole in a list or just be contrarian for no real reason?

think about that for a while (maybe even ponder it for a couple days or weeks) and when you have an answer come back and share it.

Contrarian of what?

Common sense. Reasonableness. Logic. Having a good opinion.

I think you need more time pondering.
You need less caffeine.

Moneyball
Field of Dreams
The Natural
Seabiscuit
Raging Bull
Bull Durham
Chariots of Fire
Slapshot
Rocky
Breaking Away

Hard not to put Rudy or the Longest Yard in that list. If I had to yank one it would be Seabiscuit.
My list!

Rocky 1

Rudy
Buffalo 66
All the Right Moves
Everybody's All-American
One more...

Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze playing minor league hockey. It was a WPIX channel 11 classic.
I never saw that movie until college. My roommates were astounded I never watched it, so I was "forced" to watch. Underrated movie that I can't find now. I was actually looking to watch it a couple of weeks ago.

with Ben Affleck is surprisingly good.

Also, I always felt like The Rookie with Dennis Quaid did not get its due. And Friday Night Lights will always be a favorite of mine, even if the television series eclipses it a million times over.
Thanks for the recommendation. Hadn't seen the Affleck film yet, but wanted to. I don't think it's available on Netflix or Prime yet.

The Rookie is definitely in my next 10.

Try as I might, I am literally incapable of preventing myself from stopping the happy tears whenever I watch it. Truly can't think of another film scene that overpowers it in that regard.
The call home.

but my favorite movie of all time!
I am probably the only person here that doesn't rank it in my top 10. I don't know if my relationship with my own father is the reason, or what. I like the movie, but don't love it and never feel a longing for it. I'll watch a little if it's on, but I never go looking for it.

Grey, it ultimately wouldn't make my top 10, but I thought I was the only one considering Everybody's All American.

Sorry for your personal feelings toward FOD,but it is my personal feelings towards my Dad that make FOD my favorite. I lived in a time where having a catch with your Dad was everything!

I think it is one of, if not one of the most underrated sports movies. First off, I can't think of any other movie that accurately portrays HS wrestling or at least not so realistically.
