NFT: Knicks vs. Spurs

robbieballs2003 : 3/2/2021 12:28 pm
Game is at 8:30 p.m. tonight. I don't see any news on Payton as of yet. We are still currently in sole possession of 4th place in the east. Winning this game would go a long way in the standings with one more game against Detroit remaining. Being up 3 games over .500 is better than 1 game (no shit). The east is not the west by any stretch but the east is a really tight race right now.

Haven't seen a lick of the Spurs this season, but man...17-13. How does Pop do it? That's not a formidable roster by any means & especially in the West.
Hopefully Nets tired them out
larryflower37 : 3/2/2021 1:11 pm : link
Taking them to OT last night.
Let's take the next 2 and go to the break 20-17..

Looking forward to watching Vessell I have heard his defense is for real.

Let's go Knicks
I still have not seen an NBA player

That plays harder than Frank on the defensive end. He really does give it his all. It becomes contagious. Not a player I look to move. He can play on anyone’s (in the league) second unit with that effort. (As long as IQ picks up the offense, grin,)

I watched Nets-Spurs last night, or most of it. Spurs took them to OT. They may not be big-name but they're good and Pop has them playing hard as you would expect. Derozan is an all-star level player. Murray is a pretty good PG. And their young C Poeltl (sp?) impressed me as well.

I agree
That's why it's so weird that Thibs doesn't play him more.
Would seem like a Thibs player.
Hopefully, this opportunity earns him time in the rotation.

It's good to see Frank step up given the chance. Wish Knox would do the same.

It's not weird at all. He's useless on offense and his defense is overrated as hell by his fan club. Good (not great) ball defender, lousy help defender.

Needs to stay the course with his Frank hate, he is all in and needs to play it out. Can’t admit when he is wrong. There are many just like him. Frank is a very strong defender, plays hard and it becomes infectious with the rest of the team. He makes a few plays every game that help his team win, take a charge, gets a couple of steals. The other night he closed out hard and caused a travel in a tight game against Indiana.

His shooting form is very good. He will become a serviceable offensive player with continued growth each year. He is 22!! It won’t be woth the Knicks but Frank will be in the NBA for a very long time.

Wow, you would think he went to Duke with the way that you're judging him but seriously folks, how is Franks a lousy help defender? I don't see help-defense as a weakness as the times I have watched him, he has been a responsible teammate as far as fulfilling his rotation responsibilities off the ball. But perhaps I am missing something
Frank
TyreeHelmet : 3/2/2021 4:05 pm : link
You would think he was a combination of Tony Allen, Pippen and Draymond the way fans discuss his defense.

He is a good on ball defender I won't deny that. He also is very sound fundamentally- moves off the ball and after passing the ball, shares the rock etc. But he has very little if any offensive game.

I hope he can turn in to a serviceable player providing good defense, knocking down 3s. But fans need to be honest about the current state of his game. This is his 4th season in the league...

GMEN46 : 3/2/2021 4:53 pm : link
How do you know that? Are you at practice? Again he is 21 and came out of the draft too early. Let’s relax on him being a bust.

He started strong and went into a slump and other guys started playing better so he lost time. Whose minutes is Knox taking? They are clearly giving Toppin time to develop, but he is the only guy he can take minutes from right now. Should we throw in the towel in Toppin?

Am I in practice? Yawn. Such a lazy question. 3 coaches have all decided he's not worthy of a major role. Yeah, if Obi Toppin is in year 3 and he's looking like Kevin Knox, I'd be completely comfortable throwing in the towel (as would the Knicks). Knox sucks, he's done nothing to suggest he's going to be a good NBA player. Enough with this "came out too early". He's in his THIRD NBA season. Players are busts, it happens.
Career
DanMetroMan : 3/2/2021 4:58 pm : link
37% from the field (that's because he came out early?) 3 rebounds, 1 assist, .4 blocks, 70% career from the line, career PER 8.5 (this season 8.3) and yeah, if he looked good in practice he would have earned SOME playing time (especially with the injuries) and he never did. He sucks.

of a decent 3 ball, is there a single skill Knox displays as having the upside of being even average? Not passing, not defense, not rebounding. As rabid as Knicks fans are about Frank... NONE of the same defense comes for Kevin Knox.

Guess they should hit up practice and see what he's up to.

Is always great at breaking news. Please share some noteworthy trades he has broken. And if they trade him for drummond which would be a huge mistake whether you like knox or not. I’ve also read multiple reports this year where knicks wouldn’t trade knox, so whose right? come on man your better than that.

Great. Please quote me. He sucks. The absolute best case is a 3 point shooter off the bench. Can't crack the rotation minus Robinson despite WWW in the FO and Kenny Payne on the bench. His trade value is likely an expiring deal or a 2nd round pick.
Rose trade
GMEN46 : 3/2/2021 5:10 pm : link
A deal for the 32-year-old Rose probably wouldn’t cost too much in assets. The Knicks have three lottery picks out of the rotation who are available — Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina and Dennis Smith Jr. — according to sources. Knox, however, probably wouldn’t be dealt for Rose. The Knicks also have the 2021 first-round pick they got from the Mavericks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade, but probably would be hesitant to deal that one because it could turn into a lottery pick.

Looks like knox wasn’t available in rose trade

there a single person on here who shares his views on Kevin Knox? He's a bad player. He's 3 training camps into his career. He's with an excellent staff and he can't even get burn. He's shown ZERO development in any way. Better 3 point %, absolutely nothing else. I don't even see the more optimistic of Knicks fans on here even pretending to talk up Knox. He's not a good player. Busts happen, he's one.

I'll defend him. I mean literally, I can defend him on the court as long as I don't have to go through too many screens.

Knox
Jon in NYC : 3/2/2021 5:11 pm : link
sucks. That's not really a debate. he's out of the rotation for a reason.

Frank can be a valuable player but he'll never sniff starting minutes as long as he doesn't bring anything to the table offensively. He's a fine bench swiss army knife defensive stopper and I have no problem with him getting 15-20 mpg.

But Knox will be traded soon and that's fine.

Good question. Looks like the Magic don't think Bamba can play the 4 as they have players like Birch/Aminu playing over him and they obviously are set at center. That's the kind of deal I expect the Knicks to make (and hope it's something of that nature) vs. a pure veteran ala another Rose deal. Bamba does have the best d rating on the Magic roster so he does have that going for him. I'd be lying if I claimed I watched much of the Magic this season.

of use for him. That said he is going to be a throw in for a bigger deal at some point if i had to guess. Nobody is giving us anything. I dont care how old the guy is when he is in his third season. He doesnt have to be tearing the league up, but he has to have shown some improvement, knox looks the same if not worse then when he came into the league. Frank at least shows small spurts of usefulness.

spurs are shorthanded...

playing on a back to back after an OT game. This is a game we need to win. I mean its the spurs and Pop so it wont be easy but no Aldridge, Gay, Vassel, or white and possibly Keldon Johnson. LFGK!

even if he had improved a decent amount, I don't know if he'd be playing much. RJ/Mitch are the only young guys getting real minutes. There's so many vets on this team and Thibs is gonna ride them as long as he can. Quickley's strengths as a player just so happen to be exactly what this team needs to the most - and even he can't get more than 20 mins a game. Since Elf got hurt IQ has been playing even LESS!

Knox should be in the G-league.

He has played sloppy at times and he gets pulled. Yes, he should get more minutes but he also needs to earn it. Thibs seems to pull him after bad plays.

He is definitely on a short leash plus he is the type that will try and shoot himself out of a slump.
Thibs has handled him well.
If he is going Thibs rides him but if he is 1-6 he is done.
Quickley is a scorer first and is okay at everything else right now.
