What would be your moves?

Cuts
Restructures
Extensions

Whom would you cut, restructure, and/or extend?
Here is my take:

Cut
Zeitler
Solder
Tate
Mayo
Toillio

Trade
Engram for AJ Cann (RG for Jax)

Restructure (if needed)
Bradberry and Martinez. Lower this years salaries thru signing bonus.
2017 draft

Giants drafted Engram and Tomlinson...if you had to choose which one of those guys to retain, which would it be?

The obvious answer is Tomlinson. Giants can cut Engram ahead of his non guaranteed 5th year and use the money saved there to re-sign Dalvin.

Other guys I'd cut-

Solder
Tate
Toilolo
Mayo
Core

On the fence about Zeitler. Only way it makes sense is to cut him outright is if you plan on drafting a guy like Wyatt Davis in R2. However, I think Zeitler stays. Hopefully they can work out an extension and lower his 21' cap hit.

Great perspective Engram vs. Tomlinson.
If Core is healthy

You keep him, best gunner in years.
I dont get the cut Zeitler crowd.

This is not a team with a ton of OL talent and he's probably their best lineman, although its not inconceivable for Gates to supplant him in that regard in 2021. His salary is not prohibitive. There's already a boatload of holes on this roster, lets not go making more holes to create cap space which will be used to plug existing holes.

I would try to trade Engram for a RG but if that doesn’t pan out, you can get a better player for 10m a year than Zeitler. He played pretty bad last year especially in the beginning of the season.

The issue with Zeitler is he’s older and in the last year of his deal. A younger player you’d extend. But for a guy who’s arguably lost a step and will cost 12.5M in salary you have to make a choice.

My view is you go shop hard for an upgrade, and if you can’t come to terms with a younger player, you possibly keep him.

12.5M is a heck of a down payment on a good player.
In a normal year you might be able to get a late pick for Zietler

but unless you have a team willing to do an extension (and in this scenario the Giants would not be willing) then cap constraints of his high base salary is a massive limiting factor in trading him.

Notionally though he should still have some value to someone
Cut Zeigler

And replace them for the second round draft pick. And you're lucky if you've stayed even.
Keep Ziegler, who is a great leader and probably helped gates development, add a wide receiver in the second round and you're in business.
You've also built on that critical component called continuity.
THat Ziegler didn't play well in the beginning should be no surprise. He had Fleming on the outside who is intended to be a swing tackle and he had Gates on the other side who had never played the position.
It's one thing to say it, but the critics ignore it, new players, new scheme, new coaches, no preseason, no Barklay equal The Perfect Storm. It is remarkable that they held together and got better as the season went on. Let's see what they can do with continuity and instead of using a draft picks to replace productive players, let's see if we can use draft picks to add productive players to productive players and emphasize continuity on the offensive line..

I agree with you about Zeitler, although I’m not sure he qualifies as a great leader. I understand that he may be a cap casualty but I would wait until I had a good replacement alternative if I could. Same with Core and Mayo. Neither is making a lot of backup money and Core looked really good on punt coverage. The cap gain would be minimal for them unless the replacement player has a much greater upside for the same pay.

If I am getting rid of any OL it is Solder. Zeitler can still play and you can easily extend him a yr and guarantee money. Guarantee him 10M over 2 years - and you save 7M this year.

Cut both Solder and Tate as post June 1 cuts: Tate gets you 8.5M and Solder gets you 10M those 2 get 18.5M

Core, Toilolo & Mayo can save 7.3M

Those moves could free up $32M

Bradbury already has his 2021 salary guaranteed (13.9M) - more challenging as he is not going to take less money this year unless you extend him and give him additional guaranteed money
