the better chance that we bring back Zeitler on a re-worked deal. Zeitler won't command on the market what he is due to be paid next year. So, I don't see us just bringing him back for the last year of his contract. But I could def see extending him 1-2 years, and bringing down his cap hit in 2021. Unless they are drafting an interior OL on Day 1 or 2, I hope this is what happens.
Zeitler turns 31 in a few days, Solder 33 next month. So I think we can call 2/5 of our OL "aging." Not sure Jackson is the answer, but it would be good to get some younger blood in here.
I've posted a number of times that there will be a glut of veterans in the 29+ age range that will get released in the coming salary cap purge that most teams are going to have to do.
With such a glut and little money to pay them, these guys are going to be signable to cheap contracts. None of them have any leverage in this market. It is a total buyers market. Consider Zeitler in this market as well. If the Giants cant get him down under 6M this year, then sign one of these other guys for cheap. Zeitler isn't going to sniff a better deal.
Zietler is due $14.5 million and releasing him would save $12 mil. Yes please
