the Giants have had mixed results with cast offs, though largely, not too good. Garrett brought Morris and Chunn over from his experience with Dallas. Morris was a hell of RB when coming into the NFL, but is now a shadow, though still tough, and knows his trade. Chunn was a kid from a small school with potential who never made the grade.
The good thing about vets is they've done it, the bad thing is it may have also done them.
I don't pay much attention to non-Giant football, but among the list of names, Mack has a good vibe, and Dukie Johnson resonates as forked.
As a generality, I would prefer to go bottom fishing in the draft for some late round values, or UDFA's, with fresh legs and something to prove.
An exception, I would tend to consider Rhamondre Stevenson if he's still there in the 5th. Big kid, fast, hands and can block. If the Giants' coaches can't do something with that, I give up!
Barkley wants to dance to the edge and be deployed as a pass catching threat and play action deception.
I think Mack is also coming off an ACL or leg injury that cost him the season. If he's willing to come here for incentive laden 1 year deal, ok, but that's risky having two RBs coming off major injury to start year.
We need to start strong/quick with reliable running game to help Jones get comfortable and momentum forward.

Mack's injury is why he'll take a backup type of deal, most likely. But it's a fair point because the Giants may not want another RB coming off an ACL. I think they will get a big RB like you're talking about in the draft, but of course, you're selling Saquon short.
I think Adrian Peterson and a late round pick would fill out the running back room nicely. AP made 1M last yr, and I don’t think that # goes up this year. I think he would be attracted to working with SB, being the reason he would pick the Giants over other teams.
had some good games for Baltimore and averaged over 5.0 yards/carry in back up role. Probably a slight upgrade over Gallman but also likely more costly.

I want a RB who can lay a lick on DB's.
Some good names on that list. Yeldon wouldn't be a bad choice.

I’d be fine with Hyde
+1, health has been an issue with him though.

good hard runner...cheap

Give me Jamal Williams
Well, we need to make that guy happy. Where’s the love?
If same ballpark, I prefer him. Familiarity/continuity, and I thought he ran really well last year.

This. I'm sure Gallman will be pretty cheap and I'm not sure why people are against the Giants resigning him. Familiarity breeds contempt I guess.

I think so Stubbs.
Giants 2021 Running Back group imv should be...
1. Saquon Barkley
2. Wayne Gallman
3. Free Agent above (or cheaper free agent tbd by summer)
4. Day 3 draft pick
