Bills propose rule change

US1 Giants : 3/3/2021 4:36 pm
the proposal is that teams would not be allowed to hire for coaching or front-office vacancies until after the Super Bowl.

I guess that is so Super Bowl coaches are not shut out of the open opportunities.

Will never go anywhere, imo.

Desperate teams should not have that month head start taken away from them..
It's not that big of a deal

level playing field for jobs. Good for them. If Giants made this proposal it would look like we're trying to keep assistants.
Puts Teams With New HCs

at a big disadvantage.
I think it's a good idea.

HC candidates coaching in the SB get screwed a bit, and they're the guys bad teams likely want.

It's a couple of weeks in an otherwise quiet time of the season, I don't see that it hurts new coaches very much.
makes sense to me

never really understood why there isn't a "league year" for coaches.
I like it

Would also be great if included GMs, so teams cant get a leg up on hiring the better candidates.

I completely disagree with this. IMO, there shouldn’t be a reward to teams that want to rush to be the first team to fire its HC so it can be the first in line for the newest flavor of month HC candidates.

+1 But this is too logical a proposal to go anywhere.
Its a good idea.

I'm surprised its being offered by a winning team. Under the current system, assistants on winning teams are penalized and held back while losing teams are hiring each other's retreads as soon as the regular season is over.
NFL strives for not

giving any team a competitive advantage. I don't know if this is the ultimate solution but coaches should not be out of the process because of a teams success.

expand to say not just hire, but interview. Alternatively, require interviews to be allowed for teams prepping for the Super Bowl. Kudos, Bills.

I feel like this is something that should have been done a long time ago.
Iirc, wasn’t there a time
Big Blue '56 : 3/4/2021 7:47 am : link
where assistants could be signed but still finish out their playoff runs or am I misremembering?
I would delay hiring until the week before
SJGiant : 3/4/2021 8:05 am : link
The Super Bowl. This way everyone gets interviewed around the same time and a team can wait a week if they interviewed someone they liked from the Super Bowl teams.
I agree with it

Contact with another team's staff shoud not be allowed until the Monday after the Super Bowl
2 points on this matter

Terry & Kim Pegula have become the model , hipster owners of the NFL. They run with the cool kids . Therefore , we in Syracuse now get the Bills on the local FOX station , thereby preempting the Giants 4 times a year .

2. The Bills are advocating this precisely because they have a good team . They don’t want their playoff weeks disrupted by job interviews . If this recommendation takes root , utter chaos will prevail in the weeks following the Super Bowl . What is the typical off -season front-office and coaching staff turnover ? Maybe 20%. The teams looking won’t have their programs in place by the combine , were it a normal year .
This is a great idea

What's the opposition to it aside from "we've always done it this other way"?
