would go a long way toward stabilizing the OL. Adding Slater would give them three good to serviceable OTs, two centers, and three good to serviceable OGs.
Cut Nate Soldier. Keep Cody Core. Re-sign Leonard Williams and Austin Johnson. Given the current cap situation, I don't see the value of WR in free agency (or even much more than LW and AJ) . It would be either over the Giant's cap to get a good receiver, or what they get would not really be good enough to be worth a free agent signing (a redux of Golden Tate).
The Giants should be able to get a big bodied receiver in the second round like Nico Collins (my preference), or Rashod Bateman.
Everything I have seen about the Cornerback from Washington, Keith Taylor, makes me hopeful the Giants could draft him in a round that is appropriate for his value.
Re-sign LW and AJ. Draft Slater in Round 1, Collins in Round 2, and Taylor in Round 3(?) would fill a lot of holes. Later round chances on Rb, DT, and TE.
Apologies to Patrick Graham for having to go another year without a true edge rusher, but bad decisions in 2018 left the Giants without a lot of options.
Hard for me to evaluate the opt outs, I have no idea what any of them have done through the year and how that has affected their games, if at all...
Moving or releasing Zeitler would clearly send that type of signal.
Difficult to imagine Judge is comfortable with Hernandez, Lemieux and Peart based on last year's performances.
what position is Slater more suited to, even though he can project to either?
Move Thomas to RT.
Sign Joe Thuney for RG.
Gates stays at C.
Draft Slater for LG.
Add some second tier WRs in the free agency window, get SB healthy, and add some undrafted/late round RBs.
That should be more than enough for Jones to score points to win games...

That's an intriguing plan, imo.

I think he could project as both. I think this is the year they can cement the OL.

And wouldn't it be great to go into each week with such an advantage at OL?

maybe this...
Cut Zeitler & Solder
Sign a Center in Free Agency...should be several available
Move Gates to Right Guard
Draft Slater for Right Tackle
Keep Thomas at Left Tackle
Let Hernandez and Lemieux compete for Left Guard
Swing Tackle - Peart
Swing Guard - loser of the Hern/Lem competition
I've been thinking this way too.
Unless Kadarius Toney falls to us in the second.
Surtain/Toney would be an awesome 1/2...
I don't think he'll be there at 11 but if he is they are going to think long and hard about it especially if Zeitler is gone. It's a chance to lock down the OL.
This may be a key part of the equation especially right at the top half of the draft.
Would be quite impressed if we looked past the arm length especially with a guy that has such great tape.
Slater vs Young 2019 - ( New Window )
That is why he is viewed as a guard in the NFL, IIRC.
Ditto.
I don’t think you send Zeitler away until you have someone on the roster to replace him. So, don’t release him until you draft a Day 1 starter. Slater could be that guy because I think he may be more guard than tackle.
Unless Slater is the next Martin, you stick with the guys we have and find a mid round guy in the draft, and perhaps go after a big fish in FA.
I agree. But that's more important right now than re-signing LW.
I agree. But that's more important right now than re-signing LW.
I disagree. If we lose LW, we're back to having zero pass rush.

I don't know what LW is going to be going forward after such a breakout season. Your post sort of implies we can count on LW do similar going forward. I really don't know.
But here's what I do know. Our sixth pick in the 2019 draft so far looks ordinary without a lot of help. And I frankly don't even know what he's going to look like with more help. But we have to find out in 2021. That is critical. And more critical than keep LW.

I replied to you another thread. I didn't see previously this.
But I don't like this. You've sold your soul for an OL because you think the QB stinks. If the QB needs THIS MUCH HELP - this if he is as bad as you think - then it doesn't matter the OL. The giants aren't going to go anywhere. Inevitably some games the OL no matter how good will get beat in the playoffs - if GMEN ever make it.
And all the other positions on this Giants team - needs help too.
You might as well draft a QB in rd 1 instead of doing what you're proposing. Other positions need to be addressed too.
The entire video is in slow-motion! LOL. He's getting to his spot and whipped Chase Young. He has the requisite movement ability.

They will still run Blitz SB and force him to pass block or dance. DJ has to prove he can beat that. Those five men, as good as they are will still have trouble blocking 8.
If the Giants keep putting Saquon in the backfield to pass block instead of shifting him out wide and daring someone to cover him 1v1 then I'm putting a hit out on Jason Garrett... if teams line up to all out blitz us then we should be getting at the very least one on ones with Saquon every time and we should be making them pay every time...
