You want to talk about a tale of two teams. That first period was atrocious, but that third period was one of the best.

Kreider with the hatty!

Laf is turning into a beast. That assist on the Buchnevich goal and that shot at the end of the game for his fourth goal of the season? BIG BOY PLAYS.

But most importantly, that Igor injury did not look good. He couldn't put any weight on his leg.
Laf looks like he belongs already
redbeard : 3/4/2021 9:50 pm : link
and Buch is a must resign...he does everything well and is the type of player you go deep in the playoffs with

Also, for those of you that wanted to bury Krieder behind the shed after a quiet month to start this weird ass season, apologies will be accepted in writing....

but that Igor injury looks bad...I don't think we see him again until October unfortunately

Well, this is Kreider's MO
Greg from LI : 3/4/2021 9:54 pm : link
He's an incredibly streaky player. When he's hot, he looks fantastic, and then he'll be MIA for several weeks.

Didn't see the game and therefore the injury, but everyone's saying it looked really bad. 😫
Where are the idiots hating on Krieder every night???

They should trade him for Eichel :X
Krieder catches a lot of flak because he hasn't turned into

John LeClair 2.0

CK is a damn good hockey player. A bit streaky, yes....but for the most point you can count of 20-30 goals a year and he usually makes a lot of noise come the post-season

I'll take it
Kreider is a guy to me that seems like Esa Tikannen.
Victor in CT : 3/5/2021 7:46 am : link
He muddles through the compulsory 82, but when the $$ is on the table he turns he gets really focused.
After the first period I texted a friend
Gman11 : 3/5/2021 8:21 am : link
"What is it about the Devils that brings out the worst in the Rangers?" Then, the Rangers decided to step it up a bit.

The injury to Shesty looks really bad. Looks like Georgiev is going to get a lot of work.

Lafreniere looks like a different player than he did the first 15 games or so.
Shockingly enough, the teenager needed some time to get comfortable
Greg from LI : 3/5/2021 8:37 am : link
3-3-6 in his last six games after one goal and no assists in his first 15 games.

Buch continues to produce. So many people gave this guy so much shit, yet here he is putting up 7-10-17 in 21 games.

Yes, imagine that??

My issue with Kreider is that there are games where you don't know he's out there.

Compare him to Buchnevich: Buch is noticeable every night to me. He's often controlling the puck in the offensive zone, winning board battles, and is pretty good defensively. He has a lot of good games where he doesn't get points (maybe not so much this season since he's scoring so much). Kreider is just completely off the map way too often.

Lafreniere is showing a lot in recent games. I desperately want Kakko back so we can see them both thrive.
how did the injury even happen?
ColHowPepper : 3/5/2021 9:14 am : link
Wasn't clear at all to me--was it a split w/his pads, an awkward move when split? He had a great night (goal excepted) and was clearly getting his groove back. A lot of unfortunate timing this season
The Shesty
Stufftherun : 3/5/2021 9:35 am : link
injury really did look bad. The fact that he laid there for as long as he did tells me he knows the damage to what I would have to imagine is his knee, is likely going to cost him this F'd up season and possibly more. Sad too in that he really has been rounding into shape and he was just as responsible for last night's win as Kreider was. He kept the game close in the 1st when the Devils were buzzing and the Rangers were just getting off the bus. Get well soon # 31.

was what I saw...did the Devils' forward clip Igor's right lower leg with his leg/skate? bit baffling
Looks
pjcas18 : 3/5/2021 11:36 am : link
like a pulled muscle, based on the posts I was expecting something gruesome.

Not that pulled muscles can't linger and be debilitating, just expected worse.

Hopefully he's back soon. Looked like he was starting to regain his form from the stretch run last year.

His reaction made it seem excruciating.

The advanced stats guys on Twitter have graded him pretty highly this season.

Oh, just so it's clear I'm not minimizing it at all, I've pulled muscles before, we all probably have and it's more painful than many other injuries.

I was just expecting the actual play he injured himself to look worse.
....
BrettNYG10 : 3/5/2021 12:28 pm : link
I agree, lol. His reaction was like he got shot, but I didn't see any movement during the play that would make me think he got hurt.

This isn't like Alex Smith's leg or something where you just knew it was brutal.

He was phenomenal last night and he really has played well statically since the first few games. My only concern and its kinda dumb is that he just looks late to everything with his glove. I am probably seeing something that is not there, but his glove always looks late to me--now he makes the safe, but I am like always did he see the puck late?
great news...

UPDATE: G Igor Shesterkin is day-to-day with a mild groin strain.

I'm surprised. Awesome news.
I definitely expected worse.
Mad Mike : 3/5/2021 3:48 pm : link
The play didn't look like anything, but his reaction sure did. That's still something which could linger for awhile, but considering how he was practically carried off the ice, a lot better than what it might have been.
groin strains can be, often are, as lingering
ColHowPepper : 3/5/2021 5:03 pm : link
and worse than hammies...thick, deep muscle, blood flow to injured/torn tissue is low. But Igor is so slight of build, maybe his groin is. ______ (your adjective here).
Wow
Greg from LI : 3/5/2021 5:03 pm : link
Sure looked like a major injury based on his reaction. Great news!
I don't think I've ever had a groin strain but I could see
Del Shofner : 3/5/2021 5:52 pm : link
how they would be pretty painful. I know he's needed but they should let him rest it adequately - didn't he have the same thing in the playoffs last year?
I have had a couple...
rnargi : 3/5/2021 7:35 pm : link
..and I was a goalie for 30 years in many leagues. The big issue with lingering is that once they seem completely healed, the most seemingly benign move brings it back.
Lafreniere
PaulN : 3/6/2021 12:43 pm : link
Is a player that I believe could develop into a Panarin type player. He is responsible defensively with the skills to steal or takeaway the puck in all zones, he is devoping his passing skills and sets up his teammates well, he has a hard and accurate wrist shot and a knack at getting open around the net. These are skills that are immeasurable. If Buffalo wants to trade Eickel for Kreider they would need a head examination and the Rangers would say yes in 1 second. Nobody doesn't like Kreider but there is a thing called the salary cap, if any of you heard of that, so questioning if it were wise to sign Kreider longterm or trade him last season at the trade deadline was and still is, for anyone who is being honest, and understands the game a good question. Unless you think playing Lafreniere on the third line is great moving forward, or paying a winger 7 million a year to be a third line winger is wise. Unfuckingreal.
