FA game of musical chairs.....with as many as 700 FAs

George from PA : 3/6/2021 5:52 am
I suspect the agents already know what is going to happen....

Most teams push the cap envelop....maximizing cap by pushing bonus forward and back loaded contracts.

Especially into the coming years with new TV contracts that will explode the cap.....

Then corvid hit....not only, no explosion, but an implosion of cap.....and many teams find themselves way over the cap....and will start cutting players.

I heard there might be as many as 700 FAs!

Outside of the top 20/30 FA players....who still will get their......many will start realizing, especially the longer they wait....supply (players) will be over demand ($$$$ available to fill spots)...... a major buyers market will occur.

We already see a ton of quality guards being released

Well organized, competitive teams should benefit...that have cap.

We can complain a ton about the Giants recently and they will not be viewed as a competitive team, but they are well organized one.

The recent talk of the Giants in bad cap position is just false, comparably. Pittsburgh just saved 15 million cutting Ben's salary and is still 70 million over the cap. The Giants can create cap space. Granted, to a limit. Lets be real, very few teams are flushed with cap.

The Giants should have a good handle on all the players available.....and hopefully find and target the hidden gems.

The FAs...if they must settle on $$$$, will prefer to choose to go to a winner....especially if your older.

The Giants have a golden opportunity to fill holes on the cheap....now, they will not be viewed as Tampa, KC etc...but with some recruiting from our well respected players.....they should be a attractive landing spot. The Giant might be able to be sold as an "up and coming" team and the players truly seem to enjoy being here....that matters.

In typical BBI fashion....I am not saying...we can sign last years all-pro team....but I am hopeful, that we will find a quality swing tackle, if Zeitler leave, a quality RG, that 2nd Corner, competent 2 way TE and servicible WRs.

Not all the answers....but enough to fill holes....allowing to draft bpa.

The cap is not going to explode

The proposed disney deal is a 30 percent increase and the NFL had to put ABC into the super bowl rotation to get it if reports are correct. The NFL was hoping for a 100 percent increase. Ratings were down 7-10 percent including the super bowl. Remember 30 percent is based on a contract from 10 years ago.

Don't forget if we don't resign LW the DL will be a big need.
If that is case...then
George from PA : 3/6/2021 7:14 am : link
A massive correction will be seen

QBs can not remain in the 35/40 mil.
The 20 mil positional deal will disappear.

But I suspect, this year is still the exception....and 30% is still a decent increase....in a smaller slice, no longer will tv be only option.

As streaming services will also be getting deals....
That's what has me wondering

when people mention that the Giants are in the middle of a rebuild. How can you have a rebuild when there is so much roster turnover?
There is truth to OP's comments
DavidinBMNY : 3/6/2021 8:25 am : link
There will be a lot of starter level players available. Many teams, except for teams flush with cap like the Jets, are not going to be making adds in FA this year.

The most interesting question is does this create a 1/2 year market dynamic.

I think it will not be 700 FA's or, 700 FA's of value, but I think it's realistic across the league there's a glut of around 50 players who can start for most teams free, that would not be normally. BTW I'm not counting guys like Mayo or Tate. On top of this there probably will be another 10-15 players who teams can't find a way to get under contract.
need to be careful though. you don't want to swap your garbage

for someone else's
Primary cause of roster turnover, is coaching change.
George from PA : 3/6/2021 8:41 am : link
We expected this coaching staff to make changes.

And even with that....the defense is close....OLB/Edge and 2nd corner, assuming LW resigns.

Special teams is pretty set... primary kick off returner is only need.

Offense needs the most work...OL is in better shape even with only 2 spots secured (lol), #1 WR, and a 2way TE.

If FA goes as I expect....this is a golden opportunity to fill the holes.
And let the draft improve it.
I think teams will sign Free Agents this year.....
Simms11 : 3/6/2021 8:43 am : link
#1 some teams work the cap very well and can find a way. Secondly, I believe there will be lots of bargains this year, perhaps in the second wave of Free Agency. Some guys will look to sign for a lower number, for a year, and then take their chances next year when the cap goes up and teams are more willing to spend larger portions of the cap.
George, I enjoy your posts ... you’re optimistic as a true fan should

The real key is Daniel Jones. Is he or is he not a franchise QB

He must make quicker decisions.... hopefully with a more secure OL and better separation from the targets.

But yes, I try to offer hope.

Unfortunately I have been more active during the off-season lol

That is also a big reason why there is a lack of cap space. The team cuts solid players because the new HC and Coordinators want “his guys”. That’s why if Judge is making progress, even slow progress, he needs to stay around for more than 2 years.

If FA goes as I expect....this is a golden opportunity to fill the holes.
And let the draft improve it.
No doubt DJs development and his relationship with JG is the key.

It will be interesting to see who joins him for the spring tuneup with Cutcliffe. Hopefully he has SS, Slayton, and some of the young guys (Mack, Bachman, Stills, etc) ... but more telling if EE comes to town.
It is beyond me how EE drops those passes

My son bought those NFL gloves....I put on a left one and he had the right....spent the afternoon making one handed catches.

Balls stick to them....

It must be mental
This is gonna be one wacky offseason
djm : 3/6/2021 10:41 am : link
It’s reaching the point where so many qbs are unhappy and so many players are getting cut, that if nothing happened it would still be the wackiest offseason ever.

So much revenue was lost and we don’t know how much revenue will be gained in the coming season, due to Covid restrictions. This offseason won’t be pretty. It’s already ugly.

will take 1-year deals . Their representation will counsel waiting it out for a season to clear the cap-decrease anomaly . Minimal talent , minimal cranial -vacancy types like Gettleman will take advantage of the market by signing too many of these short-timers , which will ultimately only serve to regard roster formation .
I assume you mean
