I'd be shocked-SHOCKED-if Smith is there @ 11.
Do you want to get Jones killed??
Dukie Dimes : 3/6/2021 11:36 am : link
You’re removing the one piece from the OL that has experience and is good and replacing him with nothing. Under your plan, there would be way too much money invested in the D-line and not nearly enough with the O-line. In fact, your three man d-line would be earning substantially more than the five man O-line (assuming soldier is cut).
We don't have two fourth rounders and we don't have a 7th rounder

forgot to add restructure of Solder and i have us drafting Ben Cleveland the guard out of Georgia.
Not sure
GiantsRage2007 : 3/6/2021 11:47 am : link
Giants move Engram for a 4th when they wanted a 1 before the deadline. It could be they wanted him since they were battling for the division and would have wanted to be blown away by an offer. Hard to think they settle for a 4th now. (I’m all for getting anything for him btw but not sure DGs thinking).

Also In don’t think Shepard is going anywhere. Injury prone? Maybe. Only reliable option at wr on the roster right now though.
There's

basically a 0% chance Shepard gets cut. Maybe restructured, but not cut.
Your not going the get LW at 18 per
Chip : 3/6/2021 11:51 am : link
I don't see them cutting Shep. Does anyone have interest in bringing back Linval Joseph? if we lose Tomlinson
Go Deep - I like a lot of what you have. Points of debate
chick310 : 3/6/2021 11:54 am : link
from me would be:

1) Solder will not likely play for the NYG ever again
2) Shepard is an unlikely cut
3) All for trading Engram and cutting Toilolo but will need more horsepower added to TE than just a 7th round rookie
4) And no more players from Duke please :-)
Need at least a Pro WR in FA
Rafflee : 3/6/2021 11:55 am : link
This team cannot expect a Jefferson result with an 11th pick... it took Davante Adams 2-3 Years to fully progres to a Top Impact receiver. They need to add at elast a Professional player---I'd like Samuel. He has tremendous upside, and he does several things that they do not have..... He and Barkley in tandem provide In Play Matchup problems...and they also provide an ability to push Pre Snap Reads and obvious decisions

The Engram Gomments.... let's recognize that most of the good offenses today feature multiple TE weapons. Today's defenses are weighted toward covering space... big Bodies in Midfield Vertical Seams are evry valuable.... Engram can be a useful and reasoinably priced "part" in an ensemble. He doesn;t need to be whatever we wished he would be.... a more consistent version of himself, with an added cast might be more effective than starting from ground Zero

So you'd cut their best Wr, their best TE and best OLineman
JohnB : 3/6/2021 12:37 pm : link
and hope that Smith is there at #11 and hope a 4th rounder is there AND successful. That isn't a recipe for success!

Remember, Mara stated at the end of the year presser that they need to give Jones weapons. I don't see that reflected in your plan.

A hard pass for me.

Build the Oline and give Jones weapons to help him succeed.
I wouldn’t mind this as a mock off-season....
Vin_Cuccs : 3/6/2021 12:40 pm : link
.... but some of it seems a bit unrealistic.

As much as I would like to clear the cap space, and get new playmakers on offense, I really doubt they go anywhere.

Tommy Tremble is a mid-round prospect, and should be long gone by the 7th.

I don’t love the idea of drafting WR’s with the 1st and 2nd round picks.

Where in like your signings, I think those contract numbers are way low.
I like the thought you put into this and wouldn’t
eric2425ny : 3/6/2021 12:47 pm : link
be unhappy except for Shepard getting cut. However, I don’t see any of those free agents signing for those deals. Williams is looking for close to 20 million a year, Tomlinson will probably get 12 million a year, and Lawson is getting 10M+ with the premium on pass rushers. I also don’t see Drake signing a one year deal for $5M. He’ll want at least a 2-3 year deal.
We should not..
FatMan in Charlotte : 3/6/2021 12:48 pm : link
be giving $5M to a backup RB.

We can get a decent one for much less.
I like adding
Rave7 : 3/6/2021 12:59 pm : link
Tommy Tremble from ND, best blocking TE in the draft,
but most draft experts are expecting him to go 3rd and 4th so I don’t know he lasts to 7th. Hopefully Giants can get him, he’s gonna be much useful than Engram.
Going into the season with
eric2425ny : 3/6/2021 1:00 pm : link
Our WR’s and TE’s as follows seems like a bad idea when I look at this again. Almost no experience, if Shepard returned I would think differently.

WR (question marks are presumably cheap FA’s/undrafted):
Smith (rookie 1st round pick)
Brown (rookie 2nd round pick)
Slayton (third year inconsistent player)
??
??

TE:
Kaden Smith
Tremble (rookie late rounder)

Your OP went off the rails when it left Solder's K as/is
Gatorade Dunk : 3/6/2021 1:02 pm : link

Cutting Shepard doesn’t create significant cap room.
cosmicj : 3/6/2021 1:04 pm : link
He is overpaid but ditching him doesn’t do much for us.

And agree about Solder.
What is the obsession with cutting Core? He performed well before
Ivan15 : 3/6/2021 1:28 pm : link
Getting hurt and he is not a big cap hit. At least let the guy prove he can recover from his injury before releasing him. Excellent kick coverage guy and has shown good hands in his limited playing opportunities.

$2M is too big a cap hit for a role that should be filled by a rookie or vet minimum player.

Fans need to stop thinking of cap room leaks as big contracts only. Most cap room leaks out via leak, not water main break.

Earth would buffalo trade a 4th rounder to acquire someone who will only cost them wins?

Bingo. And the starting guards would be Lemieux and Hernandez. It makes you wonder what game people are watching. With those 2 starting on the OL they better plan on a good backup quarterback as Jones wont survive the season.
Rating the OP's Off-season as Top Rated
giantstock : 3/6/2021 8:32 pm : link
As arguably one of the alltime worst off-season's a grammar school kid ever projected.

Love the improvements the OP did to the OL. Maybe he could suggest to also cut Hernandez, Thomas, Peart, Gates and Lemieux and pick up some fine walk-ons as replacements.

well done!
They would trade Zeitler as they'd get value in return
SGMen : 3/6/2021 9:41 pm : link
They would trade Engram for a #2, I'm pretty sure about that, but no way for a #4.

bottom line is Judge will cut anyone who doesn't fit his new system.

We are in great cap shape 2022 if we resign LW and DT for fair money.

I am not concerned with the cap. A guy playing ANY position at a pro-bowl caliber level (which he was) is worth $2 M. Someone who can down the ball inside the 10 yard line, saving 20 yards, or keeping a punt returner from a 10-15 yard gain is worth $2 Mill. If he doesn’t play at that level when he returns, then you cut him loose.

I'm sorry, but that's just not correct. Special teams aces are readily available on veteran minimum contracts and rookie deals. The marginal value of paying retail price for a player who is exclusively a special teams guy and isn't one of your three primary specialists is so limited that he had better be legendary good. Like Devin Hester or Dante Hall on returns level good.

You just don't gain enough implied win probability from a gunner to justify spending more than you have to.
I want more resources devoted to the OL
djm : 3/7/2021 9:00 pm : link
This is assuming the giants like thomas but don’t love him, yet, and they aren’t down on Peart, but not sure yet either. I think those are fair assumptions. That’s 2 bodies you aren’t disgusted with at tackle which ain’t as bad as its been, but not enough if you ask me. I want another body there and not just a late 3rd round pick. We know judge wants the giants to be tough and good up front, we know there were some mitigating factors or problems last offseason so there are some fair excuses but at some point we need answers up front and fast. We also need depth. Tackle is a premium position and one the giants certainly recognize as such, I think I’d be surprised if resources aren’t spent on the OL this offseason. Peart was a late 3rd rounder is he really pencilled in as the starting right tackle? Is that wise? Thomas too for that matter. As much as he improved we shouldn’t assume he’s the goods at LT. Drafting another big talent either round 1 or 2 or signing a big vet talent would go a long way to truly fixing the OL. Let all 3 battle it out for 2 spots.
Should add
djm : 3/7/2021 9:02 pm : link
Fully aware Thomas will start at LT. But drafting that dude that can play nearly all OL spots including LT and RT, sign me up.
