I don't really care about the NBA All-Star game, but I'm rooting for Obi Toppin to win the slam dunk contest. His NBA career is off to a bit of a slow start and this would at the very least be a fun thing for him and the team. Obi's father Obidiah was a semi-pro hoops player who was legendary for his dunking, so I'm thinking that Obi may have some tricks up his sleeve.
No disagreement, but it's happening so I'm all in for Obi.
Poor guys gotta work a 4 day work week making millions.

I might be in the minority, but disappointed in Silver doing this All Star weekend ya know, during, a freaking pandemic. Just name who got onto the team & give these guys-most of whom are coming off a shortened season-time off to heal when they're playing something like 4 games in 7 days. But as usual, the almighty coin must win.

I'm curious Obi's future as a Knick. I could see him getting dealt if Knicks go star hunting.
Haha no worries. Just being a jerk. Enjoy the event tonight
Everything is tonight. Not really All Star weekend this year, more All Star Sunday.
Oh yeah, no disagreement there either. He's stuck behind Randle and hasn't really shown a reason he shouldn't be. It's another reason to root for him tonight though - increased trade value isn't a bad thing either.
I think the speed of the game in the NBA is just so much faster than in whatever conference Dayton plays in. Doesn't mean he can't have a good, long NBA career. - just that he isn't there yet.
I agree holding the All Star game I stupid. But please, the tears for the players is laughable. Of course it’s about the almighty coin. The same almighty coin that the players don’t have any issues spending.
The All Star game is completely unnecessary from an entertainment standpoint. But when you’re dealing with networks that pay billions of dollars it’s not quite that simple, unfortunately.
Then Players should of said no, it was agreed to by the players association and negotiated by chris paul. You cant blame the NBA
On a lighter note, buddy sent me an article earlier about All Star Game being a super spreader event due to parties. Who has NBA All Star Game parties? Haha. This isn't exactly the Super Bowl.
Yeah, the Atlantic 10 - and there are some great schools in there in terms of being great colleges to go to - and yeah, Steph Curry went to Davidson (although it was in the Southern Conference then) - but playing Fordham and Rhode Island isn't like playing the Celtics and the Sixers.
He'd probably still win it at 50.
They hate each other

The LBJ Steph lovefest of late is a total farce; I still don't think those two like one another.
They hate each other
nygiants16, Haha. Yup. I actually like that; enough of this lovefest between guys. Give me a MJ Isiah hatefest anytime.
He's having a great season when he plays, though I still would love to know more about his 2 week AWOL. He's, uh, an odd guy. Helluva talent, but definitely a bit out there.
Mrs. S, huh? Yeah I’m watching, er I mean my wife is making me watch that crap too. And I I will certainly be telling all my buddies that she made me watch it when discussing it tomorrow.
Randle looks lost out there.
Step can shoot from anywhere amazing

I’m confused why 33 has anything to do with winning a 3 point contest. It isn’t a vertical leap challenge. He’s shooting a basketball. Lebron is 36 playing 35 min a night that’s amazing

So they don't work on days where they don't have games? At your job, are you off on days that you don't have any meetings?

Did you watch it? You don't just stand there. You have 70 seconds to take 35 3-point shots from 7 widely spaced locations on the court. That's 2 seconds each for 35 3-pointers from all over the floor. And there are multiple rounds in order to win. That takes some athleticism and conditioning.

He beat a 33 yr old Mike Conley by 1.
My 13 yr old daughter takes 100 catch and shoot 3's in 7 minutes on the doctor dish 5 different spots.
She does 300 shots every other day.
I am not impressed by the effort. He has been shooting like that for 20 years maybe longer. These guys probably didn't break a sweat.
Most of them probably shoot 500 3's every day.
With regard to the dunk contest, my favorite dunker in the world is Jordan Kilganon, a Canadian guy who has the most inventive dunks I've ever seen.
This dunk is his new one that just blows me away

It's 2021, half the guys on the all star team sit at least one game if they have a stretch like that.
