that has totally lost interest in the NBA? I used to love it up until about 2010 or 2011 and then it just seemed to go off the rails for me anyway. It’s all these super teams and guys asking for buyouts so they can go join another super team late in their career.

I have no interest in watching any NBA games. Can't even remember the last time I actually watched. I used to enjoy watching the Knicks in the 90's, the bulls with Jordan and pippen. The Celtics with bird and the Lakers with magic Johnson. The Phoenix suns were even fun to watch with barkley, majerle and Kevin Johnson. The NBA has gone down the tunes since.

Cool.
Remember the NBA was going to overtake the NFL talk?
The NBA anymore as a whole. Players forcing trades, super teams, no defense, step back travels allowed for more scoring. I watch the Knicks but no other games.
That was pretty prominent around 2017 if I recall.
& it might, who knows? I don't think it will, but it feels like NBA has surpassed MLB in terms of popularity, especially among Millennials. This is anecdotally, but the guys who I work with who are in their 20s couldn't pitch Mike Trout of a lineup, but would instantly recognize probably 40-50 plus NBA players.

ESPN Sources: As the Oklahoma City Thunder turn to younger players in the nightly rotation, five-time All-Star center Al Horford will be no longer active for games this season.
I will give Nets this caveat though...championship or bust, provided KD is out on the court. If he's not, that's not the best team in the league. It might win the East, but it's not 'championship or bust' in that instance.

It will never overtake the NFL. If it was going to it would have been in the 90’s.
Yes, it probably will never surpass the NFL, but no one can predict the future. What I'm trying to say is that the NBA is a lot more popular than the 'NBA still exists?' crowd.

Oh, it never will. And it's ratings now are much lower than they used to be and don't even come close to the NFL's.
However, the chance of that happening (NBA over NFL) is very slim
The NFL is starting to tackle the concussion issue and is modifying their rules and equipment to protect the players more effectively. The NFL has to be more strident with the college ranks and youth football ranks to do the same (aka discourage coaches from teaching kids to hit with the helmet, etc).

It’s popular but the popularity is driven by player movement. I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing either given the 24/7 sports media cycle. But, in terms of watching the games, I’m not so sure it has surpassed baseball. Definitely not regionally. Nationally yes, but the ratings are very close.
You can't say unequivocally that the NFL will never be surpassed. Remember boxing used to be THE sport in this country & now it's a fringe sport. Yes, NFL will probably remain king, but nothing is set in stone, especially if parents don't let their kids play because of the concussion issue.
Funny the Nets are signing all these washed-up bigs to try to stop Joel Embiid .. There is no one in the Nba that will stop Embiid from winning the nba championship this year

the talk at the time was about the NBA passing the MLB, which is clearly and obviously has. This board just skews old as fuck, and always has, and is generally not in touch with what is popular, what is a popular opinion, and what is not. Hence the "get off my lawn" / "old man yells at clouds" posts against the NBA being the first responses, let alone half the other shit posted here that isn't directly football related

because ratings are an outdated metric, and everyone under 39 - literally everyone - does not subscribe to cable and streams everything, which isn't counted in nielsen ratings
if the concussion issue is mishandled by the NFL and the sport is declared too dangerous to play in some political circles
political circles? Give me a fucking break, what a joke. You might as well complain about cancel culture and the media just to complete the triumvirate of dipshittery

Nope, the league is an abortion. My team can go 82-0 and I wouldn’t give a shit. Worst professional sport by a mile.

Keep telling yourself that and look at the most recent TV deals the NFL got with CBS, FOX, ESPN, etc.
The NFL is, without a doubt, the most popular sports league in this nation. No argument here. Will that ALWAYS be the case? None of us know. It's stupid to say whether that will be true one way or the other.

I’m 39 and have thought the NBA has been shit since 2011 when I was 29. It’s not entertaining anymore. There are basically 2-3 teams that have a chance to win every year. The traveling is out of control, the flopping is comical. There are almost no likable players. Compare today’s league to the mid 90’s when you had Jordan, Shaq, etc. It’s not even close to being as great as that was.

No you are not. The 3 pointer and subsequent strategy of hoisting them up 80% of the time has made what was a great game a joke.
It cracks me up with all these posters coming onto this thread to piss on the NBA. Haha. Maybe I should go on baseball threads & be like, 'Wow. Another 6 hour game. Boring. MLB sucks.'

Sorry man, I realize you are a fan but it’s sad now for me anyway. I used to love the NBA so I guess seeing another good player getting a buyout to join an already loaded team just irritated me because that’s what ruined the game I used to like during the NFL offseason. I’m not a baseball or hockey guy really so the NBA was my go to after the NFL season ended.

Oh I absolutely agree with you, I think it's BS too that some people in political circles think football is too dangerous. But those people exist
It's fine that you no longer love the NBA. You're not alone. I have buddies who have lost interest in the league too over the years. It's not like a scarlet letter.
It just cracks me up that this thread is like a bat signal for posters who hate the NBA to come out in force & call the league an 'abortion'.
I liked baseball growing up. I couldn't even name a player on probably 20 plus teams right now. Do I go onto baseball threads & bemoan the sport? No. Because who cares? I have no interest.
It cracks me up with all these posters coming onto this thread to piss on the NBA. Haha. Maybe I should go on baseball threads & be like, 'Wow. Another 6 hour game. Boring. MLB sucks.'
You can and I wouldnt argue. I can’t wait for baseball but I can admit it isn’t for everyone. Have at it.
I don’t go on hockey threads because I don’t want to like hockey.
There was a time where I put the nba in front of the NFL and that time is no more and hast been for a while. Give me back what the league used to be and I’ll be a fan again.
I have no problem with people hating the current NBA. I love hoops. It's always been my second favorite sport after football. I came of age during the '90s Knicks & those teams hold a special place in my heart. And it finally-FINALLY!-looks like the Knicks are on the right track.
The NBA criticism that cracks me up is the 'Well, only like 2 or 3 teams have a shot to win each year.' It's been that way most of my life & most of the league's history. Just for me...the '80s were dominated by Lakers/Celts. The '90s...Bulls/Rockets. The '00s...Lakers/Spurs. The '10s...Heat/Warriors. It's rare to see a '04 Pistons or '19 Raptors. It's a star driven league.
I was 10 and 15. Now I realize how ridiculous the rules are and I don’t watch sports through the lens of a 10/15 year old anymore. I also loathe the NFL sometimes.
These leagues need to realize that not everything they do is good and we as fans shouldn’t support foolishness. Personally I’m going to stop watching when things get bad enough. If they ever change I’ll be back but until then they lost me as a fan. They likely don’t care at all and I’m ok with that.
I was 15 in 1995, 20 in 2000. And I think both leagues were better than they are now. But that's my opinion. I hate that the NFL has basically become so pro offense that you can't even breathe on WRs anymore without a flag. It sucks.
I was out on the nba partially because the knicks were so bad. But my BIL got season tix to the nets when they moved to bkln and he had great seats. Watching them live sort of reignited my interest. The athleticism is off the charts. The defense and length is terrific. The refs suck bit that’s all sports. Enjoying it now more than I have in years.
the NBA kind of screwed itself up with the max system
and I say this as a Nets fan. If the $ is equal in FA, how else do you make decisions where to go? Winning teams, big cities, and places with friends are going to be more appealing.
they've started fixing it a little bit with the super max extensions and jmo but things will be a lot better if they can keep guys like Giannis in Mil and Doncic in Dallas, KD in OKC, etc. Making it the financially obvious decision will help, especially early in their careers when they don't already have $100-200m in the bank.
Loved the league back then. I’m enjoying this Knick team this year, but I just don’t have the same passion as I do for the Giants. Wish I did, but it just got lost over the years. Still root for them though.
As for the NBA bashing on this specific thread, you can’t be surprised based on the content of the subject. Aldridge going to an already loaded team after getting out of his Spurs contract is pretty lousy. That’s the context of the criticism and that is fair imo.

You can already see what the finals are gonna look like.
