Just looking for feedback. I didn't play last year so I haven't paid attention in almost 2 years. We are down to 10 teams now. This is a points league not a categories league so it is quite different if you are used to the latter. I always do well in this league. Imo, pitching is the key because of how points are given (more on that in a second). I picked 10th and all the top pitchers went early and often. I wanted to go SP back to back at 10 and 11 and that wasn't possible. We set our lineups weekly and we can only carry 8 SP at most which is why quality is way more important in this type of league than quantity.
Here are the point breakdowns. Offense is self explanatory. You get 1 point for things like a single, run, rbi, SB, etc. A 2B is 2 points, 3B is 3, and HR is 4 (really 6 with the RBI and R). You get -1 for a strikeout. So, HR hitters with good K rates are the best types of players.
For pitching you get 1 point per inning pitched and a K. You lose a point for an ER and half a point per hit or walk. Here is the key, P get 10 points for a Win and 5 points for a S. The best pitchers are obviously ones with great K rates, low WHIP/ERA, and the ones that are on the better offensive teams for the Wins.
With all of that in mind, here is my team.
C: Carson Kelly
1B: Bellinger (1B, OF)
2B: Dylan Moore (2B, OF)
3B: Ramirez
SS: Story
OF: Robert
OF: Martinez
OF: Brantley
U: Semien
SP: Corbin
SP: Lynn
SP: Ryu
SP: Strasburg
SP: Kluber
RP: Hader
RP: Jansen
BN: Taillon
BN: Paxton
BN: German
BN: Voit
BN: Edman (2B, SS, 3B, OF)
BN: Donaldson
BN: Yuli Gurriel
I took a flier on Voit. I can put him on the IL and pick up someone else. Since I missed out on the top pitchers I focused on high K guys earlier and then guys who can accumulate Wins later. I also jumped on the first two closers taken so I have a huge advantage there imo. I waited really late on 2B and C. Catcher is turning into the kicker position in fantasy football. Considering I waited really late for 2B I am happy with the upside of Moore and Edman.
Thoughts?
Robert and Corbin? I love Robert this year, especially in keeper leagues.
Not sure how competitive the team will be though without seeing other rosters.
I am in the same boat though, away from fantasy baseball for the past 4 or 5 years and I jumped into a keeper league. Two teams added to a 10-team league to make 12 and they let us pick (I got 2nd pick) three keepers based on last years draft results. I also had 1st pick in the draft, this is head 2 head and 6x6.
6 batting stats (R, H, HR, RBI, SB, OBP)
6 pitching stats (W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB) so three pitching ratios IMO making middle relievers valuable (but we have a 25 IP min so you can't load up on relievers and avoid starters)
My team:
C: d'Arnaud (C, 1B)
1B: Alonso
2B: Happ (2B, 3B, OF)
SS: Swanson
3B: Machado* (SS, 3B) (4th round keeper)
OF: Judge* (6th round keeper)
OF: Ozuna
OF: Conforto* (21st round keeper)
Util: Gimenez (2B, SS, 3B)
Util: Grisham (OF)
BN: Carlson (OF)
BN: Pache (OF)
BN: JD Davis (3B, OF)
BN: Adell (N/A - minors)
SP: Cole
SP: Sixto Sanchez
RP: Diaz
RP: Kimbrel
P: Mahle (SP)
P: Walker (SP
BN: Puk (RP)
BN: Dunning (SP)
BN: Bumgarner (SP)
BN: Matz (SP)
N/A: Woods-Richardson (Minors)
N/A: Hunter Greene (Minors)
I think I need some bullpen help
What are you thinking?
Soto?
Trout?
Betts?
deGrom?

If Tatis Jr. and Acuña Jr. go 1 and 2 in some order that makes for a difficult selection for me

Yep. R, HR, RBI, SB, OPS for bats. K, ERA, WHIP, QS, SV+HLD for pitchers.

You are probably still better off with the bat that can help in multiple categories. You can load up on quantity with pitching since K, QS, SV, and Holds are stats where you just want totals. Then you keep your fingers crossed that you can get ERA and WHIP. A good bat gets you all offensive categories. A great SP only gets you 4 of the 5.

Pagan and Dozier are available in my league. I will be picking up Pagan. Jansen scares me and I have no depth there. I will be putting Voit on the IL to do so. I will put in another claim for Dozier and drop Gurriel. Another guy I am looking at is Rowdy Tallez.

Since it is only 3 bench spots as part of 30 man roster in 12 team league everyone’s bats are like that unless they completely tanked pitching and are hoping to use add/drop to get stats.
Decided to go with the extra bat in Jansen because Gallen’s injury will allow me one rotating spot. Don’t want to have too many because that will hurt era/whip for what amounts to a coin flip or worse of a QS
