We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.
Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two-hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.
Please utilize the
BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-7) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!
Is that the one ESPN floated as a hypothetical? I didn't think it came from inside the league but I could be mistaken.
I haven’t GM’d in many years, so I need a refresher on this topic. Is the rule on IRL trades that we incorporate them into our draft order as long as none of the affected picks has been made yet in the mock? Or is the whole order frozen once we start?
It’s a reasonable solution to Seattle’s lack of a successor to Wilson, but assumes Darnold would placate them, and that the Jets are ready to dump him and hand the reins to a rookie.
very helpful
Quite. LOL
Plenty of time for Home Alone .gif
Best quarterback in the draft for a team who desperately needs a franchise QB. Trevor Lawrence is a generational talent and Urban and company will be happy have to him start on day 1
Disappointing start.
No
Meanwhile in Costa Mesa, the Chargers have assembled gifs of all the blue-chip non-QBs who are unlikely to make it to #13. 😢
Disappointing start.
I always try to find good pics. Like this one of Kyle Long:
This would be a big surprise. Lots of unknowns with him, and for him to go before Fields and even maybe Jones, is surprising.
The funniest outcome would be if the Dolphins wind up trading again. And it could very well happen, depending on the first five picks and who wants whom. We could ultimately look back on the Laremy Tunsil trade as the 21st century Herschel Walker deal (and O’Brien as his generation’s Mike Lynn). At least Tunsil is good, but the Texans are a mess.
Would love it, because he seems to be the 5th QB. This would give a real good chance of 5 QBs in top 10
Looking down the road. Matt Ryan, for example, isn't getting any younger and neither is Julio Jones.
Wilson probably doesn't need to get carded. He's from BYU, a Utah kid, and not named McMahon, lol
In a lot of ways this reminds me of 1983 Draft but with extra QB's at the top instead of the RB's. Only 3 defensive players went in Top 15 in 1983 (Giants had the only Pro Bowler of the 3 in Terry Kinard. others were Billy Ray Smith to San Diego at 5 and Tim Lewis to Packers at 11). Ultimately Tim Lewis did get into coaching and I think he could have been a great player if he didn't get hurt.
Dolphins pick 18th. Agreed a WR/Pitts is the easy selection here.
FWIW, I would have taken Chase too.
Plenty of wrs in this draft in rd2 and 3
Arthur?
Did I over share?
Don't worry, it happens every year. I could also see Rick looking at Slater or Jaycee Horn. Personally I have Surtain higher, but I can see how a team would prefer Horn.
But boy that defense is an injury away, from 2 injruy prone guys (Jaylon Smith and LVE) to having absolutely no one except for Demarcus Lawrence...
Jeudy (1.15 - 2020 draft)
Hamler (2.46 - 2020 draft)
Courtland Sutton (2018 2nd rounder)
Tim Patrick (who is a nice player)
Daesean Hamilton (2018 4th rounder)
As well as 2019 1st rounder Noah Fant at TE?
Seems like a lot of resources on pass catchers.
This will be a defensive draft for the Cowboys sprinkled in with OL needs with 9 picks to go and 5 more in the first 4 rounds.

Agree with this... can't see this happening, but stranger things have happened.

Best CB in the draft... can't go wrong here.
Stark difference.
Waddle... Slater... MadPlaid gets off easy with this one, but the pressure will be on next pick.

Came down to Smith being the player in this draft. He’s better than everyone on that list. Just like signing Golladay shouldn’t prevent the Giants from drafting Smith or Waddle. You can never have enough playmakers.
Give Drew Lock everything he needs to either succeed, or show Denver they need to move on.
I would probably go Slater, but that is because of Waddle's durability concerns. If he is not durable enough to match up against physical CB's on the outside can you really spend the 11th overall pick on a slot guy? In real life if Pitts, Chase, and Smith are gone I think the Giants need to seriously consider trading down.
Quote:
Take Slater in this spot but I think the Giants run to the podium for Waddle. Fastest GPS of any receiver in college football. Had he not been injured Smith's production would likely be Waddle's. He is a more polished Tyreek Hill. I would not be upset with that pick.

Waddle is an outside guy... He is an easy pick here, but so is Slater... Can play OG and RT... tough choice here, but can't go wrong.

You think Denver dips back into the WR with the resources already spent on pass catcher and current depth?

Thanks, I figured that was your rationale. I don't disagree that Smith is better but I would argue if you need 3 1st round picks and 2 2nds as pass catchers to be successful, you probably have your answer as to whether Lock is your guy. I do think this highlights Denver being in sort of a weird spot in the draft. I haven't dug into their team needs too much but the value is likely to be at a position where they already have some depth. T

If the Top 8 went how this Mock did in real life I could see Chicago, New England, and Washington trying to trade up to get Mac Jones. I could also see Denver drafing Jones and moving on from Lock. Trading back they can land an EDGE or add another CB to match up against their opponents in AFC West. Even though they signed Fuller it was a 1 year deal.
If you're drafting him as a tackle, I think I prefer Darrisaw, but either way there looks to be some really good O-Line options in round 2.
Not angry about the pick if this happens, but not the way I would go...
My strong preference is offense, whether it be Smith, Waddle, Pitts, or Slater
He has PSTD from all the previous draft beatings.
With that said, this is a dream come true. Every Madden playing Giants fan goal is to pretend to be in charge of BigBlue. I have been looking forward to this moment for a long time, and I hope I don't disappoint. At least most of you.
I agree with those who say you win in the trenches. When the Giants OL was good, they won. When it wasn't, you get the picture. Rashawn Slater is a great add to the Giants line. I like his athleticism and versatility. He can be added almost anywhere on the line and just make it meaner and better. I feel this would have been the pick Andy would have gone with.
I was tempted to go with a play maker here like a Parsons, Smith or Surtain, but all those guys went before I had a chance to consider them. Waddle would have been interesting, but I just thought Slater was the smarter albite less sexy pick.
Okay, let me have it.

Easy selection of Ja'Marr Chase. They needed a WR and he was the best player on the board. Bingo. Gonna pick 28th for the Fish, so gotta prepare for that selection too.

It was a typo. I know I pick 18th mongo! lol

I know that with all they're doing in FA the best place to add talent right now, the most needed place, is on the OL. I just feel like they are going to pick the BPA here no matter the position and there are going to be a lot of players ranked higher than Slater at 11.
I think they can go OL in round 2 or 3 and get a nice value.

Who is ranked higher? Waddle probably, but who else?
His last activity was at 2:23 PM today
I did start reading good things about an edge rusher from Georgia, but he seemed the kind of pick you target with a trade down. Unfortunately, if the Giants are going to trade down, it isn't happening until draft day, if at all.
Let's see if the Chargers blow this pick like they did last year in the BBI mock draft!
Just teasing as you should have to take a QB here. Just giving you a bad time about Justin Herbert.
taking the second best OL in the draft? Come on bro.
FWIW, I would have taken Chase too.
"Youz mongoes wanna move on from Tuerrr arrready!!!"
Man would I hate that in real life. Gonna need Adoree to stay healthy to cover Waddle.
Horn might have been a safer pick, and Darrisaw or Vera-Tucker would fill a more obvious need. The Chargers go for upside with Farley.
I like the pick, Mad! Daniel Jeremiah also LOVES Slater, has him ranked #7 overall, ahead of Penei Sewell.
Slater is a slightly undersized tackle prospect. He plays with outstanding knee bend, foot quickness and balance. He explodes out of his stance in the passing game and does an excellent job of re-working his hands to maintain inside position. Slater gives a little ground versus power before dropping his weight and anchoring late. His best trait is his ability to recover when he finds himself in a bad position. In the run game, he plays with quickness and urgency when working up to the second level. He takes great angles and is one of the best I've seen when it comes to cutting off linebackers. He doesn't have elite power to knock back defenders over his nose, but he does a good job of running his feet and staying attached. He has excellent awareness. Overall, Slater might lack ideal length, but it doesn't hinder him and I believe he can excel at left tackle. If a team chooses to play him inside, he should quickly develop into a Pro Bowl guard.
DJ's Top 50 - ( New Window )
I was unsure if Jones would make it this far, but the Patriots sit tight and get their guy.
Does the staff like what they have on the Interior OL? Maybe, but it’s not as though our guards (or the rest of the OL for that matter) have an impressive body of work.

I agree with you completely. When a player at another position is better, go with him. But when you have two players at about the same talent player, then you go with need.
LT: Thomas / Solder
LG: Lemieux / Hernandez
OC: Gates / Harrison
RG: Turner / Fulton
RT: Slater / Peart
I guess Parsons has some of the traits, but nobody really looks at him that way.

To me the best player on the board were Edge rushers, but the Raiders have so many edge players.
Browns are not used to picking late
Browns are not used to picking late

Fills one of their two major concerns
What do you guys see in his film? I haven’t watched a ton bc he’s not a scheme-fit for Cleveland but it’ wasn’t very impressive to me. Decent hand use and bend but doesn’t seem very explosive and uses 1 move 80% of the time. Not overly physical. Curious what others are seeing...

Seems pretty explosive to me. Hard worker, voted captain as a RS Soph. Productive in the SEC. A lot to like here imo. Needs to get stronger and ideally he's 1-2 inches taller but if that was the case he's a top 10 pick.

For sure. How do you rank the edge rushers?

I spent a long time evaluating the day one and two guys, it’s a struggle. No slam dunks for me, honestly. If they don’t have too measurable a I want to see a really good first step and some power. I also want to see
Production, hard to find all 3 this year. The rankings for teams are going to be all over the place depending on what they’re looking for and their schemes. I’ll give my rankings after round one though haha
1. Size - 240, which isn't awful but not especially large or tall, and arms aren't especially long.
2. Small collection of moves...a guy who's been able to win in college with a limited skill set, one or two tricks, that will probably have to widen in the pros. Can it? Maybe
He's a little bigger than Azeez and has better technique.
Although he didn't steal Azeez Ojulari from me, that was the Georgia edge rusher I had been reading about lately for the Gmen at 11. I didn't think it was realistic, but what do I know? I does my research from the in-ter-net.
Not an impact player. It should have been Waddle. Not at all happy with Slater.
You can find the same in the 2nd round with a guard and that is what Slater is in the NFL, a guard. Waddle is Tyreek Hill, but a touch bigger. From looking at it Vera-Tucker appears to be the better OL.
I see little way Judge takes Slater at 11. Sewell maybe, but I still think he wants an impact skill player at #11.
The most criticized pick I've ever had on here was actually DK Metcalf at 16. Not only for the "reach" but also because ATL was stacked at receiver. Flash forward to later that year and they pay Julio a huge extension that he really hasn't lived up to. For all of the idea that they were set at that position, you aren't ever to set to add a star.
Pitts to me is a matchup nightmare. He's the surest thing in this draft not named Lawrence. I'd definitely be looking to move Jones if I were ATL even now.
I'd very much expect them to take Fields if the draft played out like this but honestly I'm not all the way there with him. Would have taken Lance but if Fields has what it takes to win in the NFL between the ears is a real toss up for me.
In the end, what decided it for me was the common factor in the Giants awful record over the last several years: a putrid offensive line. Lack luster, inconsistent, no time for Eli and then Jones to do anything. Barkley having to rely on his talent alone to make plays. No help. They have some really good guys on it now, but can you say for certain any of them are the answer?
Slater is talented enough to play tackle or guard. He can fight for RT job, or challenge for one of the guard spots. Is Solder really that great an option if Peart or Thomas fail or get injured? Is Lemieux or Hernandez for real? Or would Slater be a much better option at any of those positions? He is going to help make the offense better by keeping the pressure out of Jones' face and making space for Saquon to run.
That is where he will be a difference maker.
If you look at a case study of the Giants, things started to go worse for us when the line slipped and we started trying to solve that by bringing in weapons for the offense before we were sure we had the protection down.
Unfortunately I fear that the Giants would go with Waddle there instead and that represents a huge risk in my mind, not just for him as a player but in the fact that the Oline is probably what will make or break this season and as of now it looks like the biggest concern.

There are those here that argue we need a rookie oliner to improve the line while arguing that the guys picked last year aren't going to improve... that is the issue or one of them with this pick. So the guys last year weren't good enough and will not improve this season, so we will live through growing pains of another rookie OG...FWIW, Thomas was (arguably) the "most pro ready" OT in the draft but it took him 8 games to get it together...
If Golladay gets injured, the Giants are back to last year at WR. If they take Waddle, they still have a game wrecker to play alongside Slayton and Shepard.
Slater would be a good addition to the line and I cannot say he would not start at RG. Your reasoning to protect Jones is excellent if Slater is a day one starter and a big improvement over Zeitler. I just think Waddle or Smith would be more likely to elevate the WR position.
No need to respond, you need to research #42 and I have taken up too much of your time.
I'm confident I will be able to find a sexy play maker in the upcoming rounds. First two picks, hogmollies? Unlikely.
Cheers and have a great night.
The WR position is so deep and loaded the Giants can find an impact starter at number 42.
That’s just my opinion but I value your opinion also.
Just not sure a guy who's played tackle, but might not project to OT in the pros due to size issues, is worth pick 11 with Waddle (and all his speed that would really help open up the field for Golladay and Saquan) still on the board. There are other fast wr's to grab later, but Waddle looks special imo
It's not a bad pick, but I'd much prefer Waddle there. I could be wrong

I spent a lot of time on this edge class and it's a tricky one. I wanted to see more production actually lining up at DE from Rousseau. He scares the crap out of me. I actually think he'd make a great 5T.
Tryon has good size and a frame that can support more, explosiveness and a reasonably developed hand use. He has loose hips if you want to drop him into coverage as well. I would have liked to see 2020 film but he did display good production in 2019 and displays excellent effort on film. I saw some of him shedding Penei Sewell in the run game and making tackles against Oregon and that sold me on his NFL potential.
I did read somewhere he was kind of a weird kid, and not popular with teammates...not sure if that's true.

SYS, exactly. That's what I like about Collins, he can do it all and make big, clutch plays regularly. Not a fit for all teams but I like him in a system like the Giants run where they want guys who can play all over and do different things.
That's exactly the type of player the Ravens love to draft every year.

Emory Hunt has Tryon as his #1 edge guy...mocked him to the Giants at 11 recently.
Slater?
Horn?
Farley?
Bueller?
Bueller?
I'm glad Waddle was there because it made my life easier. Ultimately I probably would have taken one of the CB's as it is such an immediate need, but Mac Jones sitting there would have thrown the war room into pandemonium. It would go against Lurie's desire to see Hurts be the centerpiece, but going all in on Hurts is just so risky (and I hope it all blows up in their faces)...

I like his film better than everyone but Phillips and he was a no go in the 1st for me due to the medicals. I also really like the kid from Texas, Ossai but prefer him standing up. I like Basham too but doesn't have the explosiveness I want to see from a pass rusher this high.
Thanks Chris. Chargers were hoping for 11.Waddle... 12.Farley/Horn... leaving Slater as the obvious pick at 13.
That is because people think they can see how athletic someone is by watching them run the 40, SS, and 3cone. They act like they know what they are seeing. Saints with the steal of the draft.
Quote:
With the loss of Matt Judon and Yannick Ngakoue in Free Agency, addressing EDGE early on was imperative. I don't care what the Pro Days say, Collins was the fastest EDGE I saw on the field in pads versus running in underwear. Collins also impresses me with his ability to do more than just rush the passer. This is what made Matt Judon so good for the Ravens. He was a force against the run and you did not know if he would be rushing the passer or dropping back in coverage. Really happy that Collins fell to me.
That's exactly the type of player the Ravens love to draft every year.
I had some fallbacks at other positions who also would have been Ravens-type picks, but Collins was the best player remaining on my board and the run on EDGE guys did not make me feel confident that I could get a comparable player later. I just did not see Rousseau as a scheme fit. To me he was more of a 4-3 DE. Ossai I think has the potential to be a 3-4 OLB if allowed to focus only on that position, but I did not think he would be there at my next pick. Oweh has all of the measurables, but the lack of results does not fit with what Ravens are looking for. Beyond that it gets really murky with converting DE's who don't have the pass coverage skills of Collins or undersized pass rushers who really profile as situational pass rushers more than starters.

Where is Jerry Reese when a freakish, underage DE from the Pompano/Deerfield area with a thin football resume needs him?

I can see why Rousseau fell though. He is more of a 4-3 DE and not really scheme diverse. Also, for someone who missed a lot of time (including voluantarily sitting out this year) you expected to see him come in and put on a show since he had all of that time to train just for Pro Day. Looking mediocre in drills after all of that says something about his dedication that requires further inquiry.

I'd like to see him as a 5-technique at 6'7" almost 270 with 34.75" arms. His frame still seems to have room for an additional 15-20 pounds.
Maybe Phillips this year.
Maybe Phillips this year.
I am not surprised by the run at the end of Round 1 because they won't be there in Round 2 and the dropoff at that position is more noticeable than at other positions
Newsome was another one of my targets.
I would bet they go OL.
Agreed. After the Ojulari selection my pick was in 4 picks. Collins was the last player on my highest tier of remaining players, but Toney was in the top 3 on my next tier (the other two players have yet to be drafted)
P.S. I feel like the mongos thing has really caught on with this draft, I've never felt an urge to call anyone a mongo unless in this thread lol
Learning from JPP and not being counted on right away as a starter is a perfect situation for Oweh. Sky is the limit athletically and the kid is a hard worker, just needs more time and coaching.
I do think he will go in the first round next month.
Great first round BBI GM’’s.
I consider it BPA. He is in a great spot and he won't be relied on to start.

Two questions:
1) Can he cook?
&
2) Does his mommy have to move in with him?
Is this sarcasm? I prefer Najee.
Love the Harris to Dolphins pick. Best RB in the draft. I would look for the Dolphins to take him at 18 actually. To get him at 36 is an absolute steal. If the Dolphins love Javonte Williams (reports are they are interested in an NC back), then I could see them passing on RB at 18 and getting one at 36. Otherwise I see them going Harris at 18

Got ya. Etienne vs. Harris has been hotly debated. Even some that say Williams is the best. Etienne has Kamara-like potential, but Kamara has also had an OL and a HOF QB. Not sure he would be as effective with another team. Harris is the better back IMO. He can do it all and take on a larger workload.
Similar to Miami with Tagovailoa, if Philly is right about Hurts, the Eagles won't be down for long. It's hard to blow the number of high picks they will have in the next 2-3 drafts.

I did. It's splitting hairs really, but he was a smidge higher than me. I usually don't talk about who I wanted until after the draft, but you're spot on here. I didn't exactly hide it, lol.
It really is. Fish shoulda taken Herbert last year. I should have too. I took Tua 5th last year and so did the Fish.
Leatherwood can play four positions along the OL and can battle Greg Little for the starting LT job or John Miller and Pat Elflein for the starting guard spots.
The tape on Leatherwood is really impressive. He does a great job of identifying who is coming on the blitz and who is dropping into coverage. Getting any sort of a pass rush on him seemed really tough, as he just pushes guys out of the way.
What he has to get better at is playing hard every down.
The way the mock draft is going, I probably could have taken a chance on Waddle, and still picked up someone good for the OL in the 2nd. Go figure.
This is also why teams mock and positional depth matters.

I am also interested in the Notre Dame OL because they could be Day 2 targets for the Giants in real life

11' !!!! broad jump
42" !!!! vertical
Super explosive, would be great next to Martinez.
Mike, it's like we are the same person. Both those guys were on my list, too. I was debating with myself if I should go with one of them, or go with a DB or find another WR. Your post and Lionharts helped me make up my mind. Thank you for the assist.

No problem. It is the Giants and Jamin Davis really doesn't fill a need for the Ravens so the only reason I would have considered him at my next pick was if he was BPA. I am not a fan of Waddle because I question his durability and the inability to show that he can play at football speed. In real life, if he was the only offensive skill guy left (and Top 10 went how ours did in some order) I would take less than draft chart (although not giving away the store) to trade down because the BPA is Slater, but the Round 2 talent there is not as noticeable versus trading back and getting, say, a pass rusher and then following up with OL.
What WR though? With Bateman gone the next names on the list are not noticeably better than what we could get in Round 3. Why reach for someone like Moore (who is more of a slot guy - no pun intended) when you potentially have Wallace, St. Brown, etc. in Round 3?
Haha
Lions are pleased to screw over the New York Football Giants.
If they can get some speed in the middle level of the defense behind the big DL and with an obviously talented secondary, it can add a whole new dimension.
Very solid first 2 picks. I'd have probably gone Waddle over Slater, but it would have been a tough. call.
Agreed
Or maybe defensive line.
For being not much of a football player, he had over 100 tackles, 4 sacks and 3 INTs playing in the SEC
Or maybe defensive line.
Either Freiermuth or Edge Carlos Basham would be my picks in the second round.

Mike, my thoughts exactly. I didn't want to reach and take a WR just because the guy I was targeting didn't make it to me. You have to go with value, in this case BPA. Not a perfect fit, but you take the best player, and worry later how to make him fit.
Thegratefulhead, I hear ya. I really wanted a WR in the 2nd. But the two guys I thought worth it, Bateman and Terrace Marshall were long gone. You can't just pick someone to fill a need. You must find value first. Don't worry, I am still in the hunt for a wideout, and there are still a number of good ones to be had.

I question Waddle's durability too but inability to play at football speed? Don't follow that one, he consistently was the fastest, most explosive player on the field in the SEC. I have no questions about his play speed.
Quote:
He made tackles sideline to sideline. For sure not a remote throw pick. He is a player.
If we go D in this spot it has to be an ER and this guy does not have sacks or many TFLs. I don't like drafting players that have meteoric rises because of numbers in their shorts. It wasn't our real pick. I ain't mad at madplaid, I just hate the pick. Our mock makes me think we have to go WR early. I think I would rather MUCH have Waddle and Wyatt Davis/Melifonwu than Slater/JDavis. I probably go for Moore in this spot had we gone Slater. I like Moore, more than most.
He is only rising in media circles due to his pro day, he was already being discussed by some as a first round pick. You'd like to see more than 1 year of production but totally disagree that Davis is more athlete than football player. He might still be a little raw but was super productive and his athleticism shows up on tape.

It wasn't just the combine. He made a lot of progress as the season went on. Don't get caught up in TFL and Sack totals as that wasn't his role. Davis averaged over 10 tackles per game (7 out of 10 he was in double figures). That guy is always around the ball. He can play in coverage too. The arrow is pointing up with him.
I get you like Moore and while he was productive at Ole Miss, he is a slot guy in the NFL like Sterling Shepard. If we are going to take a WR in this draft we need an outside guy who can start as a back-up to Golladay and eventually develop into a WR2 opposite him or beat out Slayton for WR2 job outright and Slayton is the back-up at the outside spots

After the injury we have no proof that he is anywhere close to what he was before the injury. That is why I would have liked to see him at least run routes. If he can't plant and cut that is a problem.

Ah, I follow now. Yeah, tough to take him at 11 without the medicals these teams have. As far as Moore, the difference between he and Shep is speed. Moore is almost like a smaller Waddle.
Pro day:
5'9.5"
178
4.35-40
4.00-SS
6.66-3 cone
Definitely smaller but quicker and faster than Shep. Wouldn't be bad in the 3rd round, especially if you think he has enough quickness/strength to get off the press and play some outside.
I appreciate the respectful debate. We just disagree and I am cool with that.
Changing gears, it will be interesting to see how Kevin continues the Jaguars rebuild if he ever shows up!
I appreciate the respectful debate. We just disagree and I am cool with that.
The question I have is why reach for Moore in Round 2 when you can get someone like Jaelon Darden late on Day 3?
Honestly after the LSU and 'Bama guys (pending health checks on Waddle), and Toney I think there is a drop off. Even Bateman has concerns about can he separate from DB's at the next level. That puts the Giants in an awkward situation at 11 if Smith and Chase are gone because if you are not confident on Waddle it is still too high for Toney and Marshall may be gone by 42
Quote:
That injury should not affect his straight line speed. That kid got on the field and played when he should have sat. I want guys like that. Moore is a large upgrade to SS who I want to move away from next concussion will be his last NFL game. Moore is dynamic and he helps specials. If I go D in the and round it would have to be a proven pass rusher.

undersized speed receivers in this draft. I definitely wouldn't take one until the 3rd. As deep as this draft is at WR, there seems to be a pretty decent gap between Bateman/Marshall/Toney and the next tier.

Toney has some questions too, tbh, not as an athlete but as a wide receiver. Sort of the opposite of Bateman.
Moore highlights - ( New Window )
Has a chance to make an immediate impact for the Jags defense that has holes every where.
Landon Dickerson is the standout IOL talent, but LAC can't gamble on the medicals. Anyway, his ability to play center doesn't matter much with Linsley getting the big contract. Creed Humphrey was off our board for the same reason.
Was thrilled to get Trevon Moehrig. Jerimiah has him as the 16th ranked prospect and Brandt at 18. Think he is very likely to go in the first round in the real draft.
Jim Thorpe award winner and at 6'2 202, just a playmaker who started as a special teams ace that just seems to have a nose for the ball. Plus a great athlete tested well despite playing through an injury and the reports saying he was at 80-85%
"Moehrig also reportedly had a 33-inch vertical and a 4.19-second 20-yard shuttle. The 40-yard time included a 10-yard split of 1.59 seconds and a 20-yard split of 2.57 seconds.
The target test results for safeties, according to Hall of Fame executive Gil Brandt, is a 4.6-second 40-yard dash with a 1.65-second 10-yard split and a 2.60-second 20-yard split. The target result for the vertical jump is 36 inches and the 20-yard shuttle is 4.05 seconds."

Football team has a little remorse...
Looking at how things have gone, would be happier if I went 1)Zaven Collins/Luke Eichenberg rather than Darrisaw/Bolton. But still filled the needs with good players
Seriously, though, I'm still kicking myself for not taking him at #13. Justin Herbert is kicking me too.
That's a great fit. Carolina could pull the trigger on him in the 2nd as well.
Lol there are 2 players I'm eyeing. If they're both gone before my pick someone is getting fired here too!
I was going to take him for Arizona but figured id go pass rusher and get rb later..sucks not having a 3rd rd pick coming up too. Nice pick!
HA! I think Daniel Jeremiah tweeted Lockett as a comp for Moore the other day. Would be fun to see Wilson throwing bombs to him.
It was between Little and a LB for me (for what it's worth)
Seems like a great fit for him
Speaking of hacking boards, I absolutely HATE you picking before me ;)
Quote:
If he does then I really know that my board has been hacked. It would also send me scrambling because there are not a lot of players that stand out here.

Okay, neither were who I am going to select
Seems like a great fit for him
Walker Little is one of the most intriguing prospects in this years draft. He was talked about as a potential top 10 pick going into the 2019 college season but then he went down for the season in their first game and then opted out this past year. He is extremely talented but he's played little football over the past two years.
If he is on the board for the Giants in the 3rd round I think he is worth rolling the dice for. His rookie season would basically be a redshirt season but he could compete for a starting spot year two. If he lives up to his potential the Giants would then have the option of moving Peart or Thomas to guard. I am not sure whether or not Peart is a good fit inside but I think that Thomas would be an outstanding guard if the Giants went that route.
I was thinking about him! Thought there was a chance he'd last to the 3rd. silly me
We added to the pass rush in round one with Joe Tryon and in round two we added a bonafide playmaker to the secondary in Safety Richie Grant.
The Browns want to use 3 safeties in their base defense and Grant Delpit missed his entire rookie year with a torn ACL. This gives us some flexibility and a really nasty 3-safety look with Delpit, Johnson III and Grant. I took Antoine Winfield Jr. in round 2 last year and this kid has a similar game, imo. Great production, ball skills and physicality. Watch his highlights, they're awesome.
Levi Onwuzurike,Richie Grant and Carlos Basham.
I chose Onwuzurike as the BPA for a big need on the Cowboys DL in a DT class that is very weak outside of Barmore and Onwuzurike.
The Cowboys are very interested in Richie Grant and will probably take him at 44 in the second round as they signed Neal and Kazee to 1 year deals in FA.
I was hoping that he would last to pick number 75 in the third round.
Good pick Lionheart.

I would hate to see him on the Cowboys! Love his game though.
Me too. That dude can flat out play and is, by all accounts, a high character individual. The only thing that was concerning about his Pro Day was arm length. His speed was borderline for his position and if he is in a division with more smaller guys I would be okay with him. You wouldn't want him against Chase Claypool, but you can play him against Diontae Johnson or JuJu Smith-Schuster
Really nice Round 2-5 Safety class this year. Some really nice prospects. I would think about taking one if I were NYG, especially if they can get some more picks via trade down/dumping Engram.
Seems like a great fit for him
I wonder what their relationship is like. Carberry inherited Little at OLT when he joined the staff in 2018. The Cardinal finished that season with momentum and a four-game winning streak, but Little hurt his knee in the 2019 opener and Stanford lost 8 of their last 11 games without him. Then Little opted out in 2020 and Stanford lost to Oregon and Colorado when play resumed.
The staff may have been sympathetic and supportive... or not. Carberry may have faith in Little's love of the game and commitment to making the most of his gridiron talent after playing just a handful of snaps since 2018... or not. Most football coaches are not renowned as humanitarians.
FWIW, the Chargers looked hard at Walker Little ten picks earlier. Temptingly high ceiling, but too big a gamble at #47 for a team with multiple OL holes.

The guy was amazing on the football field, but I questioned whether he had NFL speed for CB. If not where do I play him? So talented though and was rough on the Pac-12 WRs

Yes but his 40 wasn't combine time making it even worse... you have to add time to it. Plus pretty sure he is under 200 lbs so small for a safety. I don't know if you ask me if I think he will be good I say yes because he can play, but speed for CB does matter and size for Safety does matter. Good player though tough call on when to pull the trigger.
Someone find doubledeuce
Chase,Waddle,Smith,Toney,Marshall and Bateman.
I like him too. I went back and forth between he an Grant. A bunch of these pro days are a week too late.

Yup, last two picks have ground us to a halt.
The poster was active on BBI after he got on the clock. If you are going to be away it is not difficult to send a board to Matt via e-mail. I have done it in prior years. If Matt thinks he will be out he will then forward to someone who will be around.
We are technically not on the clock until this coming Monday

It's really just about consideration for the other 31 participants as well as those who've expressed an interest in participating but are on the waitlist. Life happens, totally get it. Care less about the occasional one-offs and more about needing to chase a few down beyond the "friendly reminder" emails that I send to everyone.
Now excuse me while I place another humorous gif in his call out thread.
Nice pick. Inconsistent as all heck though which is why I was hoping he'd fall to my next pick (compensatory 3rd Rounder)
ditto
I’ve been emailing as well
I think Chazz Surrat is a good selection. Solid LB prospect.

Thanks, this is the second time a call out thread was required to get my attention so I am sure more than a few posters are annoyed and I don't blame them. I'll do my best to pay closer attention for the rest of the draft.
This kid is very impressive and he is strong in all areas. I would love to see how Patrick Graham would utilize his skill set. He would be an awesome compliment to Blake Martinez inside.

This guy has all the tools to be dominant at the next level. 6'6" 270. Was asked to play multiple positions at Houston and excelled. A brief YouTube video of this guy linked below of some highlights is impressive.
Payton Turner - ( New Window )
It is Easter Weekend for crying out loud. Not to mention we have multiple representatives who do not live in the United States. If they end up on the clock in the middle of the night their time they can’t be expected to be following BBI. That is why we use 9-5 Eastern when we officially go on the clock Monday (with the two hour maximum per pick it means that as soon as it hits 3 PM Eastern they can safely go to bed).
I knew it looked wrong but I couldn’t put my finger on where my typo was so just went with it.
And with the Trevor Lawrence pick Matt had emailed that the thread would be posted Monday morning. Things worked out and he posted Sunday night. Kevin picked before 9 AM Monday so can’t fault him for that.
Had 3 or 4 others that we considered especially with our franchise issues. Maybe one of them drops to our next pick but probably not.
Big press corner that tested extremely well at his pro day. Ran a 4.48 40-yard dash (that some scouts timed in the low 4.4’s) measured with a wingspan of 78.5 inches and had a vertical jump of 41.5 inches.
In 20 games in the last two seasons he recorded 17 pass breakups and 3 INTs. Atlanta revamps their secondary with him and Trevon Moehrig and with Pitts make quite the trio of size and athleticism.
Thought the exact same... But I had Andre Cisco followed by Dyami Brown at the top of my board since Pat Freiermuth was picked
Quote:
eyeing Cisco with their next pick. As soon as I saw Sy's first report, I knew that was no longer happening. sigh.
Thought the exact same... But I had Andre Cisco followed by Dyami Brown at the top of my board since Pat Freiermuth was picked
I can see why. Personally, outside of Moehrig (who I was debating with Creed Humphrey for the Ravens pick that ended up being Zaven Collins) I moved the S's down my list because of the large number of Day 3 names that I felt could make an impact. Why take someone like Holland, Grant, or Cisco at 58 when the dropoff on interior OL after Meinerz (since I am not privy to the medical records of Smith and Myers) is more pronounced.
Hoping at least one of a few guys will slip to my next pick, but really wanted to add Wallace. Really good at several things
He has some maturity issues which probably drop him a bit in the draft but he is the real deal.
Cowboys continue to rebuild their back 4 in a strong CB class.
I agree. Davis + Collins is much better than WR in Round 2 + BPA here
Fortunately, in this case, I had a very good alternative in Nico Collins. It was between him and a DLineman I have my eye on, but I chose to go with the big wideout from Michigan. He recently had a very nice pro day where he timed pretty well in the 40, and the 3 cone drill. At 6'4" and 215 lbs, this guy is going to be a beast. It will be nice to have big WRs again who can block down field.
I hope the collective approves of this selection.
Cheers
Thegratefulhead really was pushing for his guy, Moore. But, I saw the same thing you did, a slot receiver. Imho, this year, an outside receiver is of more value to the Giants.

I do. Outside of the projected top tier there are 3 second tier guys, but beyond that I think you will see WR late who would be 4th Rounders or higher in past years. After Marshall and Bateman went, my feeling was if one is clearly BPA I will take one, but if I have multiple options I will bypass WR. That being said I can’t argue with Collins here. What is keeping him out of the first two rounds is consistency. Talent wise he is a definite steal.
I was close to making my pick and then a knock on the door was a neighbor with a bottle of wine. Sorry for the delay and excuse any typos!!
Happy Easter to all those who celebrate!!

I bet Moore ends up a much more productive rookie than Davis or Collins. Just like his skill set. You can use Moore like Tyreek Hill.
I know the feeling. There is one player I have very clearly at the top of my board and if he fell to 104 I am wondering if I would have the gumption to make that move

I mongoe dupp and picked my guy Mike...
Youz can say I took da plunge!
Needed another tight end behind Logan Ryan to use and develop, very thin after the starter.
Long's highlights are so boring...nearly every catch comes from a play-action, he's not super-athletic, but he catches everything and is always in the right spot. I think getting into an NFL training program could make him a little more dynamic...we'll see.

No problem. Safe travels.
C'mon Pittsburgh!!
C'mon Pittsburgh!!
He's a weird case. Terrible senior year, but came into the year as a likely first rounder. That's the kind of guy I'd be willing to take a chance on with a supplemental third. Probably has a floor as a good nickelback.
This is all I see this year when the Giants are picking:
Nice pick. McNeil was on my short list for pick 104. Not so much as a major need, but as one of the BPA. There is still one player that is available who I have a 2nd Round grade on and I am quite surprised is still here at this point. We'll see if he continues to fall.
Thank you, Andy. When the 1st round fell like it did, I chose to pull a "you," and go with the likely unpopular, but long-term best choice pick. Good OL's win. Funny how people don't appreciate how critical a solid offensive line is to success.
Nico wasn't my first choice, but the more a read about him as I was make the selection, the more I thought he was a really good option. Nico is my favorite pick so far.
This is all I see this year when the Giants are picking:
LOL. Yup, that about sums it up. However, there have been those who have supported my choices so far. Its been a good mix.
Damn, was hoping he'd drop to my comp pick
Sounds good to me.
uconngiant has so far been entering his selections in the discussion thread, and then someone enters it in the selection thread on his behalf. We will need to keep a lookout where he enters it, if he does at all.

Okay. Cheers
Should we wait for someone to volunteer, or shall we make the autopick?
Hopefully, English Alaister is on the site, and we can get this moving again.
Best
EA picked so we are moving along. Safe travels.
Milt Williams put up crazy numbers at his pro day for a guy carrying 280 pounds. He's a bit of a 'tweener. We're OK with that. The new staff seems to be in tinkering mode, so there was no point fixating on standard DL roles. For now, he's a 5-tech. In four-man fronts, he'll move inside.
Williams has bounced around on the GBN Board. I've seen him as high as 50, then I guess he fell before Matt created the BBI Board. He's back up to 64, where I think he was the highest-ranked player available when we picked him.
You are a little early. Dallas and Tennessee need to pick first.
Then a player graded 80 in the 3rd round in Melifonwu
lol you knew it was coming
I've got pictures!
Then a player graded 80 in the 3rd round in Melifonwu
I looked hard at Melifonwu, Adebo and St-Juste in Round 2 and just gambled that 1 would be available in 3. All long and athletic, will be interesting to see how they pan out.
Mike, take the top guy. Worry later where he will fit.
Late 3rd round take your best player on your board.
Oh man except a QB that doesn't fit your offense at all hahaha!
I would have picked him with my next Cowboy pick in the 4th round.
Well done Mike.
I would have picked him with my next Cowboy pick in the 4th round.
Well done Mike.
Better than Mac Jones? He has 13 career starts and never more than 8 in a season. I don't think he is in that league. Worth a flyer in the 4th though or late 3rd in this case.
I would have picked him with my next Cowboy pick in the 4th round.
Well done Mike.
Had you taken him over Banks it would have made my choice easier. Amtoft is just angry that I used a photo versus Cal! In all seriousness I think Roman can make an O work around Mills. I really like his play action game and that Pro Day was great. Jackson has not started 16 games in a season and the depth is currently Trace McSorley and Tyler Huntley. I also want insurance because I am still not convinced that Lamar Jackson is the player who can take the Ravens to a Lombardi. Great regular season numbers, but so did Colin Kaepernick.
Quote:
I love the pick of Miles Davis. He is better than Trask and honestly better than Mac Jones. His pro day workout in a driving rain storm was sensational. He throws all the NFL routes and has a beautiful deep ball. Very athletic and the ball comes out of his hand quickly.
I would have picked him with my next Cowboy pick in the 4th round.

True I dock that stupid Tree loving idiot! F Stanford!
At 95 for Tampa my pick came between Benjamin St-Juste and Aaron Banks. It was a tough decision because I love guards that play the way Banks does. Since Tampa has two good young guards already I went with the CB which was a need.
Take the guy whose NUMBAH 1, like me!!
Versatility is just what this offense needs.
I went defense with my first 4 picks but wanted to add some explosiveness to this receiving corps. Odell can't stay healthy and while Jarvis Landry is excellent and Rashard Higgins is a nice role player, depth is needed. Donovan Peoples-Jones looks like he will be able to contribute but there aren't a ton of deep threats in this group. D'Wayne is another one of those undersized guys that can absolutely fly. 3 year starter with production and special teams ability.
I was eyeing Amari Rodgers until he was taken but I am very happy to get Carter. He is very Dave Meggett like (hopefully only on the field)

... even though we already have basically the same guy in Austin Ekeler. We think Carter will be even better, with Tiki Barber-type potential.

Browns don't really need a running back, but Carter would have been tough for me to pass on. Was near the top of my list as well. Nice player and good value at this point.
A nice addition to Cowboys WR group with Gallup set for FA at the end of the season.
To be honest, I was very torn on this one. No one excited me. I took particularly long to make my selection because I couldn't make up my mind in what direction to go. I didn't really see a true BPA who jumped out at me.
I finally went with a beast in the middle. He can sit and learn behind Shelton, while he figures out what it takes to be a pro. Namely conditioning and weight management. Those are the only things really holding Shevlin back. If he can improve his conditioning, he can have a long productive career as a monster run stuffer.
I had a few others besides Gainswell that I considered here. Although it is unlikely they will be available in the 6th round the next time the Giants have a draft pick, I will keep them to myself in case they slip.
Cheers
True, unfortunately, this year isn't a strong one for Edge Rushers. The value hasn't matched my draft positions. Drafting for need is a guaranteed killer. The value has to match, if not, no go.

I actually like the middle/late edge rusher class, it's just the top that's missing oomph in my eyes. There are a ton of round 3-7 guys I am really interested in, of course, they are all developmental guys and not short-term solution to NYG's issue. But in terms of drafting for the long term, still plenty of developmental guys on the board that are pretty exciting (to me). The problem is NYG needs a day one guy.
SHHHHH... I'm trying to negotiate a team-friendly restructure here.
Seriously though, KA is still a star, but his yards per target are way down from the years that earned him that monster deal. And while the season-ending injury was "just" a hamstring, it's a concern for a veteran whose durability had become his trademark after a bunch of injuries early in his career.
Will miss at least 2021 due to injury so I doubt he gets drafted in real life
He plays on the west coast, he plays for a team that isn't a powerhouse year in and year out, and he is so good he doesn't have that many chances to make plays. Let us also throw in that Cal only got to play 4 games this year and had the most crazy bay area restrictions where practice was a nightmare. This guy is a leader from the day he stepped on campus. When the pac-12 said they were going to play in the spring he opted out. He wants to play at the next level. He hated it because he wanted to play for and with his teammates. When they changed the schedule to start playing in November he quickly opted back in and went to work. He improved everyone around him. Then for pro day he measures in at 6' 200 lbs and runs a 4.49 with a 6.98 3 cone, and 4.01 SS... IN THE RAIN! He is an amazing player, high character, and a leader. I love this kid and sad to see him go. #GoBears
His Pro Day running in the rain on what isn't a fast track like Ohio State has.

I thought about Dayo on my last pick, was hoping I could sneak to the 5th to grab him. Honestly if Jordan Smith wasn't there I probably would have pulled the trigger on Dayo

Agreed probably or maybe like a 7th rounder. Doesn't mean I didn't want to snag him in case he recovers and develops lol

Exactly. I thought hard about selecting Dayo Odeyingbo with my 4th round pick. In the end, I just couldn't justify doing it when the player has just injured his Achilles a couples months ago. If he was still available in the 6th round, I probably would have pulled the trigger. 4th round? No.
However, johnnyb, if he comes back 100%, you got a really nice player in the middle of the draft.

Nice pick, Chris. One of the good edge prospects I was just talking about.
I'm sure there will be teams that will hate him for transferring and then opting out at Georgia, but crazy talent. Work with him for a year or two and you just might have an absolute monster from a mid round pick.
Had an awful game vs. Clemson last year, could be telling, but he was without his best two WR's and Clemson can make a lot of guys look bad, so I'll take the risk
I am happy with the way the draft fell for me. I was able to address the OL early. I did not think Vera- Tucker would make it past the Chargers. The DL, LB and defensive backfield received some much needed help. A few more areas of need with the remaining picks.
Quote:
we stick with our draft board and end up with a little but of a cluster draft. Chris Rumph II is the sone of an NFL DL coach and has a super high football IQ and an array of great moves. What he lacks is ideal size, but we think he can come in and be part of a terrific rotation of pass rushers paired with fellow rookie Patrick Jones and returning vets Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett. He can play some DL and some LB and we can move him around the defense to create mismatches.
Nice pick, Chris. One of the good edge prospects I was just talking about.
Thanks Lion. If this dude ends up in the right system he could really make an impact.
Good value.
Maybe he shouldn’t have. Terrific player, and right in our back yard. We probably over-scouted him, and found reasons not to like him at left tackle. The plan was to shop for a guard on Day 2, targeting Wyatt Davis or Trey Smith. (We wound up with both.) Once we decided Vera-Tucker might wind up inside, we moved on to Christian Darrisaw, who would have been the pick if not for a terrible interview. Fell in love with his teammate Farley, though - giddily enough to overlook a discectomy. 🤷🏽🤦🏽♂️
Breiden and Alfred both told us Simi is only in it for the money, so we drafted Tamorrion Terry instead. 😉

His cousin Breiden is a Charger. Spent most of the season on the practice squad, and was promoted to the roster for a few games. Another cousin, Alfred Pupunu, was a longtime Charger

That's a relief! I watched some highlights of Davis Mills and kept coming away asking myself "Who is #13???"
For us, the deciding factor between Terry and Fehoko was YAC potential. They are both big, fast, and raw. We saw Terry create with the ball in his hands. Fehoko, not so much, though he might have better ball skills.
Just having some fun as this stuff happens. You are not expected to be on BBI 24/7.

Unfortunately, Kevin has Cleveland’s fifth rounder. So keep the gif handy for now.
Something to consider. I feel like it’s often the same people that are on the slower side. Can we think about requiring boards for people if they have one auto pick?
Nothing against any of the slower posters, it would probably help them actually.
In past years 2 missed picks without checking in or offering explanation for absence meant you were replaced. It is something to consider in future years of having first missed pick require you to submit a board to Matt for any future picks.
Maybe on a future pick. Luckily for Jon if he doesn't select the next name on the list is a Wisconsin guy!
I knew WR was deep in this draft I just didnt think it was 5th round quality deep.
I knew WR was deep in this draft I just didnt think it was 5th round quality deep.
I am sure there will be UDFA WR's who I would consider draftable. The pool is ridiculously deep this year, which is why I would not be against ignoring WR in the first two rounds if Smith or Chase are not there in Round 1 or Marshall isn't there in Round 2

These are my exact thoughts for the Giants this draft
Thanks. Thought about him in the 4th but I couldn't pass up someone who I saw as the last high potential pass rusher in the draft. LOVE him in the 5th. Especially for a team like Atlanta, I think every team should do what the Saints did with Hill and make teams prepare for multiple looks especially in the red zone. Even just throwing Mond in the backfield with Matt Ryan makes the defense have to not only play you differently but fills the heads of the defenders with one more thing to think about.
I'm not all the way in the GoTerps camp but I'm closer to him than most in terms of taking a QB every year especially if they present a value. Think Mond has a strong chance to go by the 3rd round in the upcoming draft.
McShay said he could go in the second round to the Bears or Washington here and this article has him going in the 2nd round to the Steelers here

Thanks for the reassurance :) it was mostly a comment in the "mongo" vein though lol. At this point in the draft I think players probably fit into the category of more well known sleepers and guys we more uniquely want to take a chance on. Really appreciate the organizational work people do on this mock draft and always happy to send along my board to make sure it goes along smoothly.
Not sure if you remember this but I ran a 2nd draft for a few years and we allowed trades too so I'm no stranger to the amount of work it takes to make these things run.
I do think if a single pick is missed it would be a great idea to require a board and I mostly just put it out there so Matt / the group could have a think on it. Honestly in the interest of not having to kick people out more than anything. I've gotten in the habit of sending in boards since I missed one pick a few years ago and I have nothing but good things to say about all of that experience.
I've moved between NY and LA and SF quite a few times in all my years on the mock draft and TBH my quality of life is way better since I've started sending in boards. I work with some developers in India and the Philippines and am often up later than I'd like to be (sent Matt my board at 2:49 AM PST last night lol) and I can't tell you how many mornings I've had before I got in the habit of sending boards where I woke up at 9 AM and was like OMG I HOPE I DIDN'T MISS MY PICK!!
Jay on the Island is a poster that I believe was even in my "mock draft 2.1" if I recall. Great drafter but seems up against the time often. I know before I made boards more often a few of my picks were way more rushed than I wanted them to be and sending in boards has actually helped my later round drafting I think.
So yeah, at the end of the day this suggestion is actually coming from a place of thinking some others might be helped from stepping up the requirements as well but ultimately think we are in very good hands with Matt!

I was a little late with my first two picks this year also but the other two picks I made were immediately after the previous pick. I apologize because I know it can be very frustrating for other posters.
I read a couple of scouting reports that suggest that he should move inside in the NFL where he could have a future as a starter.

Best known for an infamous screen shot of him facing the wrong way at FSU, McKitty is a tools-based prospect we hope to develop as a complement to stopgap Jared Cook and eventual replacement for departed UFA Hunter Henry. At #159, we're satisfied with the value, despite the warts and lack of production. In a thin TE class, our target was Tommy Tremble, but Carolina took him before our third-round pick. Pat Freiermuth was tempting at #47. We just didn't see how he would last in the NFL, since his signature move is running over people. And after going CB at #13, we REALLY needed a plug-and-play offensive lineman in the second round.
PS. Matt: Thanks for posting the pick. Wasn't sure whether I would be online when my turn came.
Anyway, going without a pick since early in the 4th round sucks. When I managed the Packers, I could always count on a plethora of selections to make. They always managed to earn compensatory picks which was nice. The Giants are a very different animal. Last year they had a bunch, this year? Not so much. Sucks.
I see that Uconngiant is still listed as the manager of the Bills, and they have a couple picks coming up. Is Uconngiant active or has he been replaced?
Cool. Sorry you have to contend with his lack of activity.
Oof! And I thought I had it rough.

At least you aren't Houston or Rams who think that draft picks are the devil
WR Jaelon Dardon THE North Texas State University
Well played, Sir. Well played.
Important to get the spelling right, in case anyone searches the selection thread later to check when Darden has been picked already.

Oooppsss my bad... trying to rush because I was on the clock for awhile and went on memory instead of looking him up.
Will probably have to address that with some lingering free agent or two like Malik Hooker or Damarious Randall or something...
Added another defensive player who'll need time to develop but could pay off in the future in Janarius Robinson. Reminds me of old-school d ends - not as twitchy but long and powerful

Cool. Sorry you have to contend with his lack of activity.
Unless someone would like to step in, BUF will auto-pick the remainder of the draft
Matt has all 7 rounds populated in the Spreadsheet. If people would actually show up we would be able to do that again this year.

Yeah, I noticed all 7 were there but I also notice that we lose momentum in the 5th/6th. The list of players I know anything about is definitely dwindling haha

Good to know. Lets see if we can find someone on the board to handle his last three picks.

Did the Raiders wind up with Mukuamu or Williams? Just trying to keep track.

On Monday! Gives plenty of time for Mad Plaid to thread
That's great. Did he see my GM recruitment thread?
Basically, that's how I got involved for the first time. A GM bailed, and I stepped in to make his late round pick. A very nice OLineman, I must say. So good that he went undrafted in the real thing. LOL
Going forward, if you miss a pick and don't show up on the thread or email me, you won't get another two hours make a selection.
It's really not an issue at all for most... Appreciate everyone being super responsive and keeping things moving.
Anything for you, buddy

Good to to know the Giants met with Harris, and nice pick Lionheart28. But if a player is “considered a top sleeper,” is he still a sleeper?
Here’s the original tweet Benton picked up - ( New Window )
Thanks a bunch, Kevin
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. It was a long shot that Kylin Hill was going to make it to me in the 6th, but it still stings.
Grumpf!!
Doyle is intriguing as a late round developmental swing tackle. Absolutely mammoth specimen at 6'8" 320 and arms greater than 35". Numbers were insane for a late round guy (5.12 40, 4.6 SS, sub-7.6 3 cone). The issue is his play doesn't always reflect the tools and that is why he is a mid to late Day 3 pick and not higher. Figured it was worth the gamble at 171 rather than risking if he'd fall to 184 or 210.
Will re-do if Tom wants the same player.
Don't worry about me, I do not suddenly move people around just because Sy ranks a player higher or lower. I have seen him miss with players he was much higher on than the rest of the "community" only for them to never amount to anything. If I were to do a consensus rank of players I generally remove the highest and lowest ranking I see just to account for individual bias or someone having caught a player on a good or bad day. Especially at the lower levels you do not get a lot of looks at a player so your view can be skewed easily.
Only negative is 32 5/8" arms.
25 BP
7.46 3 cone
4.50 SS

Don’t forget about me at 184. I have it narrowed down to two players so I should be ready regardless of what NGD does at 183
Which ones? There hasn’t been as much feedback as in past years because evaluations are all over the map on players so just figured I’d ask.
Oh well. Next
Just send him another reminder
Oh well. Next
I was hoping to take at 190 as well

Divine Deablo was going fall to my pick at 196. From what I read online, he sounded like a perfect late round flier. Great measurables and play making ability. I saw him as a good back up and special teamer while the Giants figured out how best to use him.

Good to know we all saw the same thing. Deablo is a good 6th round prospect.
Dez Fitzpatrick, WR, Louisville
Nice pick with Snowden. He was under consideration, but didn’t make the short list. Was targeting WR’s so had a few names as we get to more filling items that weren’t previously addressed as too many were ranked similarly. Now need to reset board for 210. With all of the hype on Atwell, when I watched Louisville it was the guy opposite him who intrigued me. Strong week at Senior Bowl and has ridiculous arm length/wingspan for a WR. Lamar Jackson was pushing hard for him as well.
That's the plan for now
We started it last year as MANY GMs requested (likely all stir crazy from the onset of COVID)... My personal opinion is that RD6 + an expanded UDFA pool (7-8 vs 5) would be preferable as many people's boards are thin are there ends up being minimal overlap...
Let's see how it goes

I think 6RDs + UDFAs (for all of us psychos) has always been the sweet spot
And for any waning enthusiasm, we still have just 3 missed picks by 2 GMs... just saying ;)
If I were you I’d have some fun here, but alas I am not you and I don’t have your email address to share my sense of humor
Well my reception has been unexpectedly spotty but it’s nice to know my drafting hasn’t suffered lol sometimes the draft doesn’t move at all on the weekends. Apologies for being a slower culprit on this occasion.

Yes, I suspected that. Still, it was nice thought none the less.

I like UDFA as it is useful to follow with the real draft
In the end, the rush to list off those players after the last selection is made is rather hilarious. We invariably have duplications, and have to quickly find replacements, before they are taken too.
I see jlukes point on this as well. Although, I think if he examined the process from a different perspective and try to accept it as just a ridiculous exercise, he would see it is really fun.

Agreed. It is a ridiculous exercise, but has to be taken as a fun activity, as opposed to being a serious one in order to best enjoy it.

It’s fine. But Matt shouldn’t include the results in the mock draft results
MadPlaid: Their are sources other than Sy. Seriously, though - good pick at this stage of the draft, and definitely an NYG-type selection.
I actually look for a consensus from multiple sources on the web when I make my choices. I don't watch college ball, so I have to rely on others who do to best inform my decisions. Sy's eval brought Wyatt Hubert to my attention. Then it was the other sites available on the web who helped me to confirm this was a good guy to pick up late in the draft.
I had another Edge guy who I seriously considered here. I flipped a coin in the end and went with Hubert.
Nice pick with Imatorbhebhe. He was the next name on my list had Fitzpatrick been selected before pick 184
Cheers

Thanks BBB. He's the perfect kind of developmental player to use a day 3 pick on. I'd be happy if we used one on him.
As mentioned earlier, we expanded last year during the draft at the request of several GMs to keep going. In fact, this is the same approach we used when expanding from 4RDs to 5RDs and from 5RDs to 6RDs. IMO, 6RDs has always been the sweet spot. We've been there for about 7-8 years and my vote would have been to stay there last year. That being said, I wanted to be flexible given the number of requests we had received and the fact that we were all a bit stir crazy from the pandemic.
The UDFA process was always meant to be a fun exercise in getting deep sleepers to the table without keeping the clock going and me having to send out reminder emails for several more days when in reality there isn't a ton of overlap with people's respective boards this far into the draft. Plus, one could argue it more closely resembles the actual UDFA process. If more GMs prefer to kill it, I'm happy to do so.
I agree with jlukes that maybe a happy medium would be doing the UDFA but not including it in the official results
Overall, the our front office all agreed we needed to improve the OL and DL and we accomplished what we set out to do. The OL picks made were for versatile and athletic players, and I think we got real value with D'Ante Smith in the 4th Round. Adding a high ceiling WR in Simi Fehoku in the 4th was a bonus. We were also able to address the defensive backfield with Sterns and Brown.
Below is the 2021 Draft Class of the Minnesota Vikings:
1st- (11) Alijah Vera- Tucker- OT/ OG
3rd (78) Baron Browning- ILB
3rd (90) Caden Sterns- S
4th (119) Dayo Odeyingbo- DE
4th (125) Simi Fehoko- WR
4th (134) DE'Ante Smith- OT
4th (143) Tre Brown- CB
5th (157) Robert Hainsey- OG
5th (168) Kahlil Herbert- RB
6th (199) Bobby Brown- DT
Thank you Matt for your efforts. Much appreciated!

I like having UDFA on the spreadsheet because I look at it for names during the draft. Or maybe just do a second sheet in Google Docs with UDFA only so those that don't want to see it don't have to.

Next on the list is a WR/RS. Does that make sense for the Titans?
About to go into a meeting, but at this point I see no reason to ignore BPA for any club unless it is a position they addressed multiple times over or a position a team won't likely draft more than one of (such as QB)
Safe travels.
The cousin of Darrel Revis can learn from another one of the best in Jalen Ramsay
2.58 - Quinn Meinerz, C, Wisconsin-Whitewater
3.104 - Davis Mills, QB, Stanford
4.131 - Jamar Johnson, S, Indiana
5.171 - Tommy Doyle, OT, Miami (Ohio)
5.184 - Dez Fitzpatrick, WR, Louisville
6.210 - Patrick Johnson, EDGE, Tulane
Overall I am very happy with how my draft came out even if it may not have been the wisest option to draft Davis Mills at 104 and instead gone for his teammate Simi Fehoko. I just thought that Mills was too far and away BPA to ignore. I have said it elsewhere, but the Ravens are going to be in an awkward positon when Lamar Jackson's contract expires. He is a great regular season QB, but if he can't develop when he is in the pocket I am not sure he is the QB who can win you a Super Bowl. Added Zeitler in FA and now two more OL. Added two more EDGE dependers although if I am counting on Johnson to start I am in serious trouble. I like his upside but he is a special teamer/back-up as a rookie. Jamar Johnson is underrated as a S, but I really like what his coaches have to say about him and he always seems to be around the ball. Now looking at some UDFA's in case we decide to have some version of that this year.
Draft Picks
1.26 Joe Tryon, Edge - Washington
2.59 Richie Grant, S - UCF
3.89 Ronnie Perkins, Edge - Oklahoma
3.91 Paulson Adebo, CB - Stanford
4.110 D'Wayne Eskridge, WR - Western Michigan
4.132 Marlon Tuipulotu, DL - USC
5.169 Jacob Harris, WR - UCF
6.211 Jaylon Moore, OL - Western Michigan
Overall I am pretty happy with this draft. I would have liked to add to the OL and WR sooner but really happy with these players. I actually ended up with a ton of opt-out guys so we'll see how it works out. I am really surprised Perkins lasted until the 3rd round and very happy to get Adebo at 91 as I considered taking him in round 2. Also wanted to get some deep speed in the receiving corps as Beckham can't be counted on to remain healthy and that isn't Landry or Higgins' game. Took a flier on Jacob Harris as a freak athlete and hopefully we can turn him into another outside threat.

Also, it doesn't appear you were paying any attention to what we are doing regardless. If you were, you would see we are just fans having fun. That's all this exercise is. It helps fill in the time until the actual draft happens because like you said, it is a really down time right now.
You don't like it, fine. But frankly, I think ripping on us for running a mock draft is dumb. Like it was said in Bambi, if you have don't have nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all.

ESPN is killing us for ignoring the hole at left tackle. So be it. We wanted a near-term starting CB, and expected a run on them before our next pick. At least we were right about that part, postponing OL was overly cute - especially opting for Farley over the safer Jaycee Horn.
At LT, Pipkins gets another camp to show he wasn't a mistake. We didn't trust Darrisaw as an immediate answer, and we think Vera-Tucker is a guard (unlike Slater, whom we would have taken if he had gotten past NYG and PHI). Gotta trust the scouts when they are united, as was the case on the OL class. With two quality, rookie guards and Linsley anchoring the middle, we have the option of moving Feiler and Bulaga around if the left side is leaky. Feiler is really a tackle anyway.
The last five picks are fine - decent balance of need, value, and upside. Wanted a safety, a power RB and an ILB, but there was better value elsewhere. so we'll scour the UDFA and SFA markets to fill those needs.
UDFA is first come first serve. Basically whomever posts a name first gets the player. You can get up to 5 UDFA's. If someone has taken someone on your list then you can replace as many times as needed to get to 5. Usually someone is monitoring the thread and will alert to duplicates. Just because misspellings happen it is good to include position and/or school so others know who you are talking about.

ROUND 2 (50): Landon Dickerson, IOL/C, Alabama

Actually, since I probably won't be around for the free-for-all, I might as well share my UDFA targets now, with the understanding that they might still get drafted or signed elsewhere. Priority guys for bonus money would be Blankenship, Slaton, and Smith, though Scott has a great shot at making the roster because the Chargers don't have a pile-movers like him. One of the TEs or safeties could stick too. We're giving Griffin a chance to compete for a backup DB spot because he's a local kid, and that's always worth a feel-good clickbait story or two.

Tedarrell Slaton DT Florida

2. Jamin Davis, LB, Kentucky
3. Nico Collins, WR, Michigan
4. Tyler Shelvin, IDL, LSU
6. Wyatt Hubert, Edge, Kansas State
6. Larry Rountree III, RB, Missouri
For my first time at the Giants' helm, I think I did a fair job. I'm happy with the results. I'm pretty certain Andy in Halifax is especially pleased with my first pick. Feels like an homage to his drafting style.

Yeah, at a certain point you have to stop the fall. If we had 7, I had two more high picks available.
The UDFA is just for fun and adds some additional names. For example, there is one name on my list that did not even make Matt's spreadsheet that I am going to have some fun with
Needs the gif
Drew Himmelman, OT, Illinois State
SAMUEL COOPER, IOL, MERRIMACK - Maine
RACHAD WILDGOOSE JR,.CB, Wisconsin
DONNIE CORLEY, WR, Texas Southern

UDFA are only posted in Selection thread AFTER the final pick is made. By the way, Wildgoose was selected already.
Well I am on the phone with them

DONNIE CORLEY, WR, Texas Southern
Damn, after we made our junior quality control intern's eight-year-old kid watch all of Merrimack's games, the Packers swipe Cooper from under our noses. His agent played us!
Well I am on the phone with them
Me too. A couple have promised me that I am their first priority because I called them first and they appreciated that. A few others have not given me similar assurances.

The Dolphins would seem to have an edge in the perks department. Plus the income tax thing.
No

Thank you to Mike in NY and Big Blue Blogger for all the fun banter and feedback. You and Matt are a big reason I look forward to this every year.
Stay well, fellas. Until next year.
Go Big Blue!
I was worried about Marshall falling when he appeared on Sy's list. Despite only being a one year starter he was a team captain. Hardworking player who I think offers a lot of versatility in a 3-4 scheme. Reminds me of a poor man's Dalvin Tomlinson. Lack of track record and shorter than ideal arms if forced into 5T drops him to the 6th Round. Ravens need depth on the DL as their starters are getting old so happy to address it in the Mock Draft
SADARIUS HUTCHERSON, OG, SOUTH CAROLINA
Too much of a value to pass up at this point. Has experience at both OT and OG, but his ultimate position will be inside in the NFL. Power and run blocking fits Ravens offense. Reminds me of Shane Lemieux, but with more athleticism (1.75 10, 5.01 40, 31 1/2" VJ). Starting in the SEC means he has played against top level competition in college
TAY GOWAN, CB, UCF
Jumped on my radar last year when scouting Simi Fehoko and Davis Mills. Opted out of 2020 season or would have ranked higher. Offers solid size along with some really nice measurables. A bit of a gamble here, but there is definitely talent to work with
JAKE FUNK, RB, MARYLAND
I thought for sure I would be able to get Kene Nwangwu as a UDFA, but alas it was not meant to be. Looking at who was available, Funk seemed like the most comparable option. Showed outstanding athleticism at his Pro Day which was important considering injury history. Local kid whose experience on Special Teams worked in his favor
ZAIRE MITCHELL, TE, NOTRE DAME (OH)
This is a long story. Our new scout for the upper Midwest typed in Notre Dame into his Uber app then fell asleep. Came back raving about this big TE. Was poo pooed since we knew Tommy Tremble was a mid round pick. Provided some homemade video and we were in awe. Absolute man against boys and, unlike many at that level who are physically dominant, showed a lot of willingness as a blocker. Total wildcard, but figured it was worth the gamble
ROUND 1 (18): Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan
ROUND 2 (36): Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
ROUND 2 (50): Landon Dickerson, IOL/C, Alabama
ROUND 3 (81): Rashad Weaver, EDGE, Pittsburgh
ROUND 5 (156): Richard LeCounte III, S, Georgia
UDFAs:
1) Quntin Morris, TE, Bowling Green
2) Grant Stuard, LB, Houston
3) Noah Gray TE, Duke
4) DJ Daniel, CB, Georgia
5) Aubrey Solomon, IDL, Tennessee
Reed Blankenship S Middle Tennessee. His brother wears glasses and kicks balls. Maybe he'll kick some balls too.
Tony Poljan, TE, Virginia. In a crappy TE class, you get crappy TEs.
Steve "Stevie" Scott III RB Indiana. Now this guy we like, and we needed a battering Ram. Boom. Pow.
Tedarrell ("T.J.") Slaton DT Florida. Well, he's big. Maybe a bit of Linval Joseph will rub off on him.
Drew Dalman
Javian Hawkins
Paddy Fisher (got him)
Mark Webb
Some solid players were still out there, you guys are on it.
Thanks again to Matt for all of his work and to you all for another great draft!

There are still a couple that were on my priority UDFA list that remain unselected for those who haven't yet selected, but it was fun. Not to mention that there was far less overlap than in past years despite everyone posting within the same 90 second window.
Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU, Round: 2, Pick No: 35, PFF Rank: 17, Sy Grade: 85, Sy Rank: #1 S
Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse, Round: 3, Pick No: 68, PFF Rank: 71, Sy Grade: 80, Sy Rank: #4 CB
Jordan Smith, EDGE/LB, UAB, Round: 4, Pick No: 108, PFF Rank: 179, Sy Grade: 70, Sy Rank: #24 Edge
Kellen Mond, QB, Texas A&M, Round: 5, Pick No: 148, PFF Rank: 102, Sy Grade: NA, Sy Rank: NA
Divine Deablo, S/LB, Virginia Tech, Round: 5 (Comp), Pick No: 182, PFF Rank: 100, Sy Grade: NA, Sy Rank: NA
Bobby Brown III, IDL, Texas A&M, Round: 5 (Comp), Pick No: 183, PFF Rank: 136, Sy Grade: 76, Sy Rank: #5 DT
Elerson Smith, EDGE, Northern Illinois, Round: 6, Pick No: 187, PFF Rank: 194, Sy Grade: 77, Sy Rank: #9 Edge
Cornell Powell, WR, Clemson, Round: 6 (Comp), Pick No: 219, PFF Rank: 123, Sy Grade: NA, Sy Rank: NA
Atlanta is very happy with the draft this year. Was surprised how Melifonwu was ranked in a lot of places and at various times was super happy that Sy posted the rankings shortly after my pick. Pitts was the obvious value to me and it looks more and more like maybe he will go there in the real draft. After that Atlanta really needed help in the secondary and Moehrig, Melifonwu and Deablo are all players built for the modern NFL you need guys with size and speed that can allow you to use them in different ways to disguise coverages. Which was similar thinking behind Pitts.
Mond and Powell I think presented great value where I got them and Mond at the very least could be useful right out of the gate in Taysom Hill "type" packages where you make the defense prepare for more especially in the red zone and short yardage. Powell played behind some talented receivers at Clemson but took a big step forward this year and could develop into a steal if someone grabs him later in the draft.
Jordan and Elerson smith are two guys with NFL frames and some production to match where you could see them developing into valuable pass rushers under the right training and coaching programs. Brown and Deablo are two guys I considered taking instead of Mond, Brown flashed some real potential and I think he goes a round or two higher in the real draft.

Miami or Milwaukee? Hmmnnn...Took him a hot millisecond to think that choice over.

Correct
One minor note on the spreadsheet: Tony Poljan started at Central Michigan, but finished at Virginia. So in the NFL’s eyes, I think he’s a Cavalier, not a Chippewa.
I learned a lot about the 2021 draft class through this process. One key takeaway is that a deep class at prime positions like CB or WR or OT doesn't mean you can wait longer to take one. It just means they are likely to go faster. By the middle of the second round, it was hard to find a near-term starter at any of those positions who doesn’t have significant warts; and the value at Edge was never particularly enticing either. Of course, QB is stripped fastest of all. The Chargers are happy to be out of that race for a while.

Grant Stuard, LB, Houston

After today, do we do a summary by team of their mock drafts?
I definitely don't get all the guys I listed, I'll just take the ones I have left on that list haha
Jhamon Ausbon, WR, Texas A&M
Royce Newman, OT, Mississippi
Chris Garrett, EDGE, Concordia-St. Paul
Pooka Williams, RB, Kansas
But I want to thank Matt and Mike for their efforts in making this an enjoyable experience. I look forward to this every year.
