BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/28/2021 7:18 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two-hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-7) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

was someone I also considered especially with everything going on with Watson right now. Great pick in the 5th

Thanks. Thought about him in the 4th but I couldn't pass up someone who I saw as the last high potential pass rusher in the draft. LOVE him in the 5th. Especially for a team like Atlanta, I think every team should do what the Saints did with Hill and make teams prepare for multiple looks especially in the red zone. Even just throwing Mond in the backfield with Matt Ryan makes the defense have to not only play you differently but fills the heads of the defenders with one more thing to think about.

I'm not all the way in the GoTerps camp but I'm closer to him than most in terms of taking a QB every year especially if they present a value. Think Mond has a strong chance to go by the 3rd round in the upcoming draft.

McShay said he could go in the second round to the Bears or Washington here and this article has him going in the 2nd round to the Steelers here

Don't worry, I usually delete the e-mails after the pick it is used for.

In past years 2 missed picks without checking in or offering explanation for absence meant you were replaced. It is something to consider in future years of having first missed pick require you to submit a board to Matt for any future picks.

Thanks for the reassurance :) it was mostly a comment in the "mongo" vein though lol. At this point in the draft I think players probably fit into the category of more well known sleepers and guys we more uniquely want to take a chance on. Really appreciate the organizational work people do on this mock draft and always happy to send along my board to make sure it goes along smoothly.

Not sure if you remember this but I ran a 2nd draft for a few years and we allowed trades too so I'm no stranger to the amount of work it takes to make these things run.

I do think if a single pick is missed it would be a great idea to require a board and I mostly just put it out there so Matt / the group could have a think on it. Honestly in the interest of not having to kick people out more than anything. I've gotten in the habit of sending in boards since I missed one pick a few years ago and I have nothing but good things to say about all of that experience.

I've moved between NY and LA and SF quite a few times in all my years on the mock draft and TBH my quality of life is way better since I've started sending in boards. I work with some developers in India and the Philippines and am often up later than I'd like to be (sent Matt my board at 2:49 AM PST last night lol) and I can't tell you how many mornings I've had before I got in the habit of sending boards where I woke up at 9 AM and was like OMG I HOPE I DIDN'T MISS MY PICK!!

Jay on the Island is a poster that I believe was even in my "mock draft 2.1" if I recall. Great drafter but seems up against the time often. I know before I made boards more often a few of my picks were way more rushed than I wanted them to be and sending in boards has actually helped my later round drafting I think.

So yeah, at the end of the day this suggestion is actually coming from a place of thinking some others might be helped from stepping up the requirements as well but ultimately think we are in very good hands with Matt!

I was a little late with my first two picks this year also but the other two picks I made were immediately after the previous pick. I apologize because I know it can be very frustrating for other posters.
Question
Jay on the Island : 4/8/2021 4:55 pm : link
What happened to Alaric Jackson? A year or two ago he was projected as a likely 1st round pick but now he's likely to go mid to late day 3.

I read a couple of scouting reports that suggest that he should move inside in the NFL where he could have a future as a starter.
Steal of the draft...
Amtoft : 4/8/2021 4:56 pm : link
Chuba Hubbard might go in the second round and then falls to the 5th? If the Raiders weren't so stacked I would have stole him in the 4th. Great pick and that is going to look really good on Draft day.
I agree.
johnnyb : 4/8/2021 4:58 pm : link
All kidding aside with his name- and you have to love it- he was on my short list of picks in the fifth round. I am not surprised at all that he is not there for me but a bit surprised a couple of other RBs were taken before him.
I have done pretty good with QBs...
Amtoft : 4/8/2021 5:00 pm : link
I think Kellen Mond has a chance to be really good. I am a big fan and he was my next pick if Chuba didn't fall to me. He is so under rated because they draft class is stocked, but he will be better than most QBs drafted mark me!
Jay as I said think you are a great drafter, no worries on my part
NoGainDayne : 4/8/2021 5:07 pm : link
we have a long history drafting together, only singled you out because I thought it might be helpful to you as well and I wouldn't want to see you get booted. The board thing seems like a nice failsafe, I imagine you have a pretty good idea of who you like anyway but mostly just wanted to get the idea out there, wouldn't really care either way if it gets implemented or not
Auto pick?

The OL was a priority in this draft and Hainsey is a versatile player who can play both guard and center. Love my ND linemen.
Chargers fill a glaring need with Tre' McKitty at #159.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/9/2021 8:25 am : link
Tre' McKitty, TE, Georgia (prev. Florida State)

Best known for an infamous screen shot of him facing the wrong way at FSU, McKitty is a tools-based prospect we hope to develop as a complement to stopgap Jared Cook and eventual replacement for departed UFA Hunter Henry. At #159, we're satisfied with the value, despite the warts and lack of production. In a thin TE class, our target was Tommy Tremble, but Carolina took him before our third-round pick. Pat Freiermuth was tempting at #47. We just didn't see how he would last in the NFL, since his signature move is running over people. And after going CB at #13, we REALLY needed a plug-and-play offensive lineman in the second round.

PS. Matt: Thanks for posting the pick. Wasn't sure whether I would be online when my turn came.
Sorry, I haven't been participating as much as in the past
MadPlaid : 4/9/2021 8:47 am : link
For whatever reason, work has been especially busy this year.

Anyway, going without a pick since early in the 4th round sucks. When I managed the Packers, I could always count on a plethora of selections to make. They always managed to earn compensatory picks which was nice. The Giants are a very different animal. Last year they had a bunch, this year? Not so much. Sucks.

I see that Uconngiant is still listed as the manager of the Bills, and they have a couple picks coming up. Is Uconngiant active or has he been replaced?

Jaelon Dardon
Amtoft : 4/9/2021 11:09 am : link
is only 5' 7.5" and 175 lbs... but the kid is lightning in a bottle. In only 9 games this year he scored 19 TDs, had a ton of catches, and over a 1000 yards. His moves have moves. I would love to see the Giants take him in the later rounds and see if they could use him to break some plays.

Important to get the spelling right, in case anyone searches the selection thread later to check when Darden has been picked already.

had hopes of grabbing a safety at some point but the stars never seemed to align as our pick came up...

Will probably have to address that with some lingering free agent or two like Malik Hooker or Damarious Randall or something...

Added another defensive player who'll need time to develop but could pay off in the future in Janarius Robinson. Reminds me of old-school d ends - not as twitchy but long and powerful
