BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/28/2021 7:18 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two-hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-7) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

Good to to know the Giants met with Harris, and nice pick Lionheart28. But if a player is “considered a top sleeper,” is he still a sleeper?

Ravens still waiting
Mike in NY : 4/10/2021 7:52 am : link
Searching users indicates that Kevin was logged on to BBI around 11 PM last night. The top two players on my board that Matt has has not changed so either he or I will fire pick after Kevin selects

Dang it!
MadPlaid : 4/10/2021 12:50 pm : link
spoke too soon. Call out got him to the table, and then he goes and takes my top target.

Thanks a bunch, Kevin

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. It was a long shot that Kylin Hill was going to make it to me in the 6th, but it still stings.

Grumpf!!
Ravens draft Tommy Doyle
Mike in NY : 4/10/2021 1:00 pm : link
Maybe a bit of an overdraft, but he was my last OT with a draftable grade and with Orlando Brown unhappy I did want to land an OT at some point.

Doyle is intriguing as a late round developmental swing tackle. Absolutely mammoth specimen at 6'8" 320 and arms greater than 35". Numbers were insane for a late round guy (5.12 40, 4.6 SS, sub-7.6 3 cone). The issue is his play doesn't always reflect the tools and that is why he is a mid to late Day 3 pick and not higher. Figured it was worth the gamble at 171 rather than risking if he'd fall to 184 or 210.
Smith-Marsette would be a tricky prospect in a normal year.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/10/2021 1:05 pm : link
Without the normal pre-draft process, how do you evaluate him? The electric plays are there on tape, on offense and special teams. Production? Not so much. Colin has been very high on him. With other draftniks, he’s barely on the radar at all. Seems like a nice cheap lottery ticket at this stage though.
oops
English Alaister : 4/10/2021 1:29 pm : link
I think I went a bit early (twhs).

Will re-do if Tom wants the same player.

I agree with you totally. But at this point in the draft and worst case scenario the 49ers get a great special teamer with great upside. He was an excellent kick returner and took two kicks to the house for the Hawkeyes. Was hard to pass up here.

Don't worry about me, I do not suddenly move people around just because Sy ranks a player higher or lower. I have seen him miss with players he was much higher on than the rest of the "community" only for them to never amount to anything. If I were to do a consensus rank of players I generally remove the highest and lowest ranking I see just to account for individual bias or someone having caught a player on a good or bad day. Especially at the lower levels you do not get a lot of looks at a player so your view can be skewed easily.

Don’t forget about me at 184. I have it narrowed down to two players so I should be ready regardless of what NGD does at 183
Deablo, that is.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/11/2021 8:07 am : link
His measurables are great, and he was a productive safety at Virginia Tech. Tweener, definitely, but we liked that. He’d have been a hybrid for the Chargers, who are in good shape at the starting safety positions.
Good morning, Mike.

Which ones? There hasn’t been as much feedback as in past years because evaluations are all over the map on players so just figured I’d ask.
Mike: Meinerz and Doyle.

Collins and Johnson would have been luxury picks for LAC, but our board was loaded with OL (because our roster isn’t), and the two you took were near the top when you picked them.
BBB
Mike in NY : 4/11/2021 8:34 am : link
It was ultimately between Meinerz and Trey Smith because of how the Mock broke, but between the blood clots and Meinerz being a smidge better fit for Ravens offense I went with Meinerz
I hope NGD knows he has another pick at 183.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/11/2021 8:49 am : link
Mike: As for Meinerz and Smith, that worked out for both of us. The Chargers just gave Linsley a boatload of guaranteed money, so Meinerz would have been a guard in LA and his ability to play center would only have mattered on the depth chart. Smith’s history of blood clots is scary, but he was irresistible at #77, even after taking Wyatt Davis at #47 (and signing two UFAs to play guard in the near term).
I guess then it was a pipe dream to think
MadPlaid : 4/11/2021 8:51 am : link
Divine Deablo was going fall to my pick at 196. From what I read online, he sounded like a perfect late round flier. Great measurables and play making ability. I saw him as a good back up and special teamer while the Giants figured out how best to use him.

Oh well. Next
He should... He was reminded of these two

Nice pick with Snowden. He was under consideration, but didn’t make the short list. Was targeting WR’s so had a few names as we get to more filling items that weren’t previously addressed as too many were ranked similarly. Now need to reset board for 210. With all of the hype on Atwell, when I watched Louisville it was the guy opposite him who intrigued me. Strong week at Senior Bowl and has ridiculous arm length/wingspan for a WR. Lamar Jackson was pushing hard for him as well.

That's the plan for now

We started it last year as MANY GMs requested (likely all stir crazy from the onset of COVID)... My personal opinion is that RD6 + an expanded UDFA pool (7-8 vs 5) would be preferable as many people's boards are thin are there ends up being minimal overlap...

Let's see how it goes

so, I guess, we don't have a say. Ending after 6 makes sense under current circumstances. Plus, my observation of this year's draft enthusiasm has me thinking a 7th round is unlikely for BBI's managers.

For whatever reason, this year's energy and enthusiasm has ebbed. Go figure

I think 6RDs + UDFAs (for all of us psychos) has always been the sweet spot
