We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.
Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two-hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.
Please utilize the
BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-7) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!
FWIW, I would have taken Chase too.
"Youz mongoes wanna move on from Tuerrr arrready!!!"
Man would I hate that in real life. Gonna need Adoree to stay healthy to cover Waddle.
Horn might have been a safer pick, and Darrisaw or Vera-Tucker would fill a more obvious need. The Chargers go for upside with Farley.
I like the pick, Mad! Daniel Jeremiah also LOVES Slater, has him ranked #7 overall, ahead of Penei Sewell.
Slater is a slightly undersized tackle prospect. He plays with outstanding knee bend, foot quickness and balance. He explodes out of his stance in the passing game and does an excellent job of re-working his hands to maintain inside position. Slater gives a little ground versus power before dropping his weight and anchoring late. His best trait is his ability to recover when he finds himself in a bad position. In the run game, he plays with quickness and urgency when working up to the second level. He takes great angles and is one of the best I've seen when it comes to cutting off linebackers. He doesn't have elite power to knock back defenders over his nose, but he does a good job of running his feet and staying attached. He has excellent awareness. Overall, Slater might lack ideal length, but it doesn't hinder him and I believe he can excel at left tackle. If a team chooses to play him inside, he should quickly develop into a Pro Bowl guard.
DJ's Top 50 - ( New Window )
I was unsure if Jones would make it this far, but the Patriots sit tight and get their guy.
Does the staff like what they have on the Interior OL? Maybe, but it’s not as though our guards (or the rest of the OL for that matter) have an impressive body of work.
I did start reading good things about an edge rusher from Georgia, but he seemed the kind of pick you target with a trade down. Unfortunately, if the Giants are going to trade down, it isn't happening until draft day, if at all.
I agree with you completely. When a player at another position is better, go with him. But when you have two players at about the same talent player, then you go with need.
LT: Thomas / Solder
LG: Lemieux / Hernandez
OC: Gates / Harrison
RG: Turner / Fulton
RT: Slater / Peart
I guess Parsons has some of the traits, but nobody really looks at him that way.

To me the best player on the board were Edge rushers, but the Raiders have so many edge players.
Browns are not used to picking late

Fills one of their two major concerns
What do you guys see in his film? I haven’t watched a ton bc he’s not a scheme-fit for Cleveland but it’ wasn’t very impressive to me. Decent hand use and bend but doesn’t seem very explosive and uses 1 move 80% of the time. Not overly physical. Curious what others are seeing...

Seems pretty explosive to me. Hard worker, voted captain as a RS Soph. Productive in the SEC. A lot to like here imo. Needs to get stronger and ideally he's 1-2 inches taller but if that was the case he's a top 10 pick.

Thanks Jon, always nice getting different perspectives on players.

For sure. How do you rank the edge rushers?

I spent a long time evaluating the day one and two guys, it’s a struggle. No slam dunks for me, honestly. If they don’t have too measurable a I want to see a really good first step and some power. I also want to see
Production, hard to find all 3 this year. The rankings for teams are going to be all over the place depending on what they’re looking for and their schemes. I’ll give my rankings after round one though haha
1. Size - 240, which isn't awful but not especially large or tall, and arms aren't especially long.
2. Small collection of moves...a guy who's been able to win in college with a limited skill set, one or two tricks, that will probably have to widen in the pros. Can it? Maybe
He's a little bigger than Azeez and has better technique.
Although he didn't steal Azeez Ojulari from me, that was the Georgia edge rusher I had been reading about lately for the Gmen at 11. I didn't think it was realistic, but what do I know? I does my research from the in-ter-net.
Not an impact player. It should have been Waddle. Not at all happy with Slater.
You can find the same in the 2nd round with a guard and that is what Slater is in the NFL, a guard. Waddle is Tyreek Hill, but a touch bigger. From looking at it Vera-Tucker appears to be the better OL.
I see little way Judge takes Slater at 11. Sewell maybe, but I still think he wants an impact skill player at #11.
The most criticized pick I've ever had on here was actually DK Metcalf at 16. Not only for the "reach" but also because ATL was stacked at receiver. Flash forward to later that year and they pay Julio a huge extension that he really hasn't lived up to. For all of the idea that they were set at that position, you aren't ever to set to add a star.
Pitts to me is a matchup nightmare. He's the surest thing in this draft not named Lawrence. I'd definitely be looking to move Jones if I were ATL even now.
I'd very much expect them to take Fields if the draft played out like this but honestly I'm not all the way there with him. Would have taken Lance but if Fields has what it takes to win in the NFL between the ears is a real toss up for me.
In the end, what decided it for me was the common factor in the Giants awful record over the last several years: a putrid offensive line. Lack luster, inconsistent, no time for Eli and then Jones to do anything. Barkley having to rely on his talent alone to make plays. No help. They have some really good guys on it now, but can you say for certain any of them are the answer?
Slater is talented enough to play tackle or guard. He can fight for RT job, or challenge for one of the guard spots. Is Solder really that great an option if Peart or Thomas fail or get injured? Is Lemieux or Hernandez for real? Or would Slater be a much better option at any of those positions? He is going to help make the offense better by keeping the pressure out of Jones' face and making space for Saquon to run.
That is where he will be a difference maker.
If you look at a case study of the Giants, things started to go worse for us when the line slipped and we started trying to solve that by bringing in weapons for the offense before we were sure we had the protection down.
Unfortunately I fear that the Giants would go with Waddle there instead and that represents a huge risk in my mind, not just for him as a player but in the fact that the Oline is probably what will make or break this season and as of now it looks like the biggest concern.

There are those here that argue we need a rookie oliner to improve the line while arguing that the guys picked last year aren't going to improve... that is the issue or one of them with this pick. So the guys last year weren't good enough and will not improve this season, so we will live through growing pains of another rookie OG...FWIW, Thomas was (arguably) the "most pro ready" OT in the draft but it took him 8 games to get it together...
If Golladay gets injured, the Giants are back to last year at WR. If they take Waddle, they still have a game wrecker to play alongside Slayton and Shepard.
Slater would be a good addition to the line and I cannot say he would not start at RG. Your reasoning to protect Jones is excellent if Slater is a day one starter and a big improvement over Zeitler. I just think Waddle or Smith would be more likely to elevate the WR position.
No need to respond, you need to research #42 and I have taken up too much of your time.
I'm confident I will be able to find a sexy play maker in the upcoming rounds. First two picks, hogmollies? Unlikely.
Cheers and have a great night.
The WR position is so deep and loaded the Giants can find an impact starter at number 42.
That’s just my opinion but I value your opinion also.
Just not sure a guy who's played tackle, but might not project to OT in the pros due to size issues, is worth pick 11 with Waddle (and all his speed that would really help open up the field for Golladay and Saquan) still on the board. There are other fast wr's to grab later, but Waddle looks special imo
It's not a bad pick, but I'd much prefer Waddle there. I could be wrong

To Andy in Halifax?
