BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/28/2021 7:18 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two-hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-7) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

That should say the picks around Ojulari because my Round 1 board had been whittled down to Ojulari and those 3 after Washington took Darrisaw
Not sure what to do.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is the pick

Excited about this pick for the Jags as their defense was atrocious. A bit undersized at 6'1" 215 but can put on some weight and maintain his explosiveness. One of the most athletic linebackers in the draft who can easily cover tight ends and running backs. Will be a threat to any QB coming on the edge to blitz.

Our GM got greedy and forgot that he's supposed to protect me, even if it means reaching slightly at #13.

With Waddle still not participating in a Pro Day that raises a red flag. Who knows if he can be 100% healed from his injury.
Question for Chris in Philly:
Big Blue Blogger : 3/30/2021 9:45 am : link
Who was the pick if the Giants took Waddle?
Slater?
Horn?
Farley?
Bueller?
Bueller?

So I will try to put him off for a bit so I can submit a pick soon after Lionhart selects. I know it is going to end up being one of two players so it is just a matter of finding the right image!
Pick is in Mike

Joe Tryon, Edge, Washington.
6'4" 251 RS Jr

I spent a lot of time on this edge class and it's a tricky one. I wanted to see more production actually lining up at DE from Rousseau. He scares the crap out of me. I actually think he'd make a great 5T.

Tryon has good size and a frame that can support more, explosiveness and a reasonably developed hand use. He has loose hips if you want to drop him into coverage as well. I would have liked to see 2020 film but he did display good production in 2019 and displays excellent effort on film. I saw some of him shedding Penei Sewell in the run game and making tackles against Oregon and that sold me on his NFL potential.
Surprising number of EDGE rushers are off the board before Rousseau.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/30/2021 10:29 am : link
Where is Jerry Reese when a freakish, underage DE from the Pompano/Deerfield area with a thin football resume needs him?
Nice pick Mike
Lionhart28 : 3/30/2021 10:32 am : link
I went back and forth between Tryon and Collins. If it weren't for Cleveland deemphasizing LBs I probably would have gone Collins, LOVE that kid. Give me him over Ojulari every day of the week.
Ravens pick is in
Mike in NY : 3/30/2021 10:33 am : link
With the loss of Matt Judon and Yannick Ngakoue in Free Agency, addressing EDGE early on was imperative. I don't care what the Pro Days say, Collins was the fastest EDGE I saw on the field in pads versus running in underwear. Collins also impresses me with his ability to do more than just rush the passer. This is what made Matt Judon so good for the Ravens. He was a force against the run and you did not know if he would be rushing the passer or dropping back in coverage. Really happy that Collins fell to me.
I love Tryon, and I love Collins
SirYesSir : 3/30/2021 10:39 am : link
Strongly considered Collins with the Washington pick at #19. And Edge is like his third-best skill...he's tremendous in coverage and a fierce run defender. Comparisons to Urlacher seem fair to me.

I did read somewhere he was kind of a weird kid, and not popular with teammates...not sure if that's true.

SYS, exactly. That's what I like about Collins, he can do it all and make big, clutch plays regularly. Not a fit for all teams but I like him in a system like the Giants run where they want guys who can play all over and do different things.

I'm glad Waddle was there because it made my life easier. Ultimately I probably would have taken one of the CB's as it is such an immediate need, but Mac Jones sitting there would have thrown the war room into pandemonium. It would go against Lurie's desire to see Hurts be the centerpiece, but going all in on Hurts is just so risky (and I hope it all blows up in their faces)...

I like his film better than everyone but Phillips and he was a no go in the 1st for me due to the medicals. I also really like the kid from Texas, Ossai but prefer him standing up. I like Basham too but doesn't have the explosiveness I want to see from a pass rusher this high.

Thanks Chris. Chargers were hoping for 11.Waddle... 12.Farley/Horn... leaving Slater as the obvious pick at 13.

That is because people think they can see how athletic someone is by watching them run the 40, SS, and 3cone. They act like they know what they are seeing. Saints with the steal of the draft.

I had some fallbacks at other positions who also would have been Ravens-type picks, but Collins was the best player remaining on my board and the run on EDGE guys did not make me feel confident that I could get a comparable player later. I just did not see Rousseau as a scheme fit. To me he was more of a 4-3 DE. Ossai I think has the potential to be a 3-4 OLB if allowed to focus only on that position, but I did not think he would be there at my next pick. Oweh has all of the measurables, but the lack of results does not fit with what Ravens are looking for. Beyond that it gets really murky with converting DE's who don't have the pass coverage skills of Collins or undersized pass rushers who really profile as situational pass rushers more than starters.
Slater
Thegratefulhead : 3/30/2021 12:09 pm : link
Has been my dark horse. I wanted him at 11. After the BBI mock, I no longer do. I HATED seeing Waddle go to Philly. Nope, if one of the top receivers are on the board including Pitts, that should be our pick. If they are ALL gone, Slater. I don't think IOL prospects drop off as much as the receivers in the second round.

I can see why Rousseau fell though. He is more of a 4-3 DE and not really scheme diverse. Also, for someone who missed a lot of time (including voluantarily sitting out this year) you expected to see him come in and put on a show since he had all of that time to train just for Pro Day. Looking mediocre in drills after all of that says something about his dedication that requires further inquiry.

I'd like to see him as a 5-technique at 6'7" almost 270 with 34.75" arms. His frame still seems to have room for an additional 15-20 pounds.

It is such a tough group to grade this year. Normally you have 2 or 3 Edge players that rise above the rest of the group. I don’t see that this year.
Maybe Phillips this year.

I am not surprised by the run at the end of Round 1 because they won't be there in Round 2 and the dropoff at that position is more noticeable than at other positions

Did watch some film of Tevin Jenkins just mandhandling him but he's got some great tools and his a high effort guy. I'd be happy with him at 42 for NYG if he's still around.

I feel like if he's good he could have the nickname "JOC" think it depends where he lands but he's the type of guy you can move around and disguise coverages with, that kind of thing matters more and more in today's NFL.

Newsome was another one of my targets.

Not too scary if Mahomes is running for his life / on his back frequently because of a porous OL.

I would bet they go OL.
I don't see Toney lasting until number 31. That is a surprise.

Lionhart28 : 3/30/2021 5:18 pm : link
Rondale Moore going as early as he did? I can't imagine him going before Toney in the actual draft. Love the player but 1 year of production, a bad injury, an opt out and measured in under 5'8". The good thing is that he isn't slightly built, he's put together. Sproles-type of receiving role?
I was all set to take Toney at 32
