BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/28/2021 7:18 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two-hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-7) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

We’re all Giants fans. The wariness about first-round running backs makes sense. Aside from Rodney Hampton 31 years ago and Frank Gifford 38 years before that, the history is unbelievably grim.
Seriously, we are scarred.

Looney: Bizarre, epic bust
Frederickson: Devastating injury in year two
Woolfolk: Bust
Adams: Devastating injury in year two
Hampton: Terrific player ruined by overuse.
Bunch: Devastating injury in year two
Wheatley: Bust
Dayne: Bust
Wilson: Devastating injury in year two while on pace to becoming a bust
Barkley: Devastating injury in year three after a serious injury in year two.

If the chicken bites you enough times, you eventually stop wanting to f*ck the same chicken.
Actually, Bunch got hurt in year three
Big Blue Blogger : 3/30/2021 11:36 pm : link
He barely played on offense as a rookie though. 1993 was his second year in the backfield with Hampton.

Jags are beyond excited to pair a potential stud 20 year old wide receiver with Trevor. 6'3" and 220 with room to add some more weight will make Marshall a very tough cover.

Instant red zone target will help Trevor immediately.

Happy that he lasted to us in the 2nd round. Thought he may have gone earlier.

love the Toney to KC pick. They have signed a couple OL already, and can draft some more. Toney hard to pass up pairing him with Hill.

Love the Harris to Dolphins pick. Best RB in the draft. I would look for the Dolphins to take him at 18 actually. To get him at 36 is an absolute steal. If the Dolphins love Javonte Williams (reports are they are interested in an NC back), then I could see them passing on RB at 18 and getting one at 36. Otherwise I see them going Harris at 18

Got ya. Etienne vs. Harris has been hotly debated. Even some that say Williams is the best. Etienne has Kamara-like potential, but Kamara has also had an OL and a HOF QB. Not sure he would be as effective with another team. Harris is the better back IMO. He can do it all and take on a larger workload.
The Eagles have opted...
Chris in Philly : 3/31/2021 9:53 am : link
to dip into the CB pool with their second round pick. There is a cluster of DB's that we have ranked closely, but we feel like Campbell's size and speed will allow him to develop into the best of the bunch. Darius Slay will be the perfect mentor to help make Campbell into a top notch CB2.
Nice work, Chris.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/31/2021 9:58 am : link
Looks like you were right to go WR instead of CB at 12. No idea how the players stack up against each other, but the cornerbacks do seem more tightly bunched.

Similar to Miami with Tagovailoa, if Philly is right about Hurts, the Eagles won't be down for long. It's hard to blow the number of high picks they will have in the next 2-3 drafts.

Leatherwood is high on my 2nd round wish list for the Giants but I doubt he falls that far. Leatherwood will be a target of the Giants due to his versatility and Alabama connection.

Leatherwood can play four positions along the OL and can battle Greg Little for the starting LT job or John Miller and Pat Elflein for the starting guard spots.

The tape on Leatherwood is really impressive. He does a great job of identifying who is coming on the blitz and who is dropping into coverage. Getting any sort of a pass rush on him seemed really tough, as he just pushes guys out of the way.

What he has to get better at is playing hard every down.

It will be interesting to see what they do because the WR's left have their own drawbacks (Bateman can he separate, is Elijah Moore only really a slot guy), we have already taken an OL, and the EDGE guys are gone.

The way the mock draft is going, I probably could have taken a chance on Waddle, and still picked up someone good for the OL in the 2nd. Go figure.

With Bateman selected right before I can add him to the Giants' arsenal, I decided to go with a LB whose upside is through the roof. Although an ILB isn't exactly a team need, Davis' measurables intrigued me to the point where I had to pick him for Big Blue. He can be an edge rusher during passing downs. He's also very adept at dropping in coverage, which adds to the likelihood he is will stay on the field all three downs.

No problem. It is the Giants and Jamin Davis really doesn't fill a need for the Ravens so the only reason I would have considered him at my next pick was if he was BPA. I am not a fan of Waddle because I question his durability and the inability to show that he can play at football speed. In real life, if he was the only offensive skill guy left (and Top 10 went how ours did in some order) I would take less than draft chart (although not giving away the store) to trade down because the BPA is Slater, but the Round 2 talent there is not as noticeable versus trading back and getting, say, a pass rusher and then following up with OL.

What WR though? With Bateman gone the next names on the list are not noticeably better than what we could get in Round 3. Why reach for someone like Moore (who is more of a slot guy - no pun intended) when you potentially have Wallace, St. Brown, etc. in Round 3?

Eric on Li : 3/31/2021 1:36 pm : link
this team needs more speed everywhere and his combine probably rivals what Devin White did a few years ago. Davis has the kind of athleticism that made Simmons so intriguing last year.

If they can get some speed in the middle level of the defense behind the big DL and with an obviously talented secondary, it can add a whole new dimension.

Very solid first 2 picks. I'd have probably gone Waddle over Slater, but it would have been a tough. call.
Cowboys select Levi Onwuzurike
Rick in Dallas : 3/31/2021 1:40 pm : link
Very strong athletic technique 3 DT who is a run stuffer and gets pass rush push up the middle. Had a very strong week of practice at the Senior Bowl. Good addition to the DT group of the Cowboys in a defensive minded draft.
