Alabama's WRs Smith or Waddle

GFAN52 : 4/2/2021 6:34 pm
Who do you like and why?
the one who is still on the board

at 11. Why fall in love with a player who won't be there?
Smith seems like

Smith. Marvin Harrison 2.0. Sign me the F up.
Smith

When our OL is not a strength, give me the guy that can get open faster and better than any WR I've ever seen. He is unguardable in this offense with KG, Shep, Engram, Slayton & Saquon.
Tough choice
DavidinBMNY : 4/2/2021 7:39 pm : link
I like Smith’s availability.

Waddle is so explosive.

With Sheppard and Golladay both missing time last year, I think I’d take Smith. Waddle has higher upside.
If Waddle was healthy...
bw in dc : 4/2/2021 7:40 pm : link
and that is an enormous if, I would say Waddle pretty comfortably.

But you can't avoid that, so it's Smith.
I want the taller guy.
Joe Beckwith : 4/2/2021 7:57 pm : link
Smith is 3” taller.
But if we have to suffer with Smith😉, OK.
No concern about

Waddle is explosive you are correct there.
Slight edge to DeVonta

Smith

but Waddle is a nice consolation prize

Smith & Jones???

An old Cowboy show. (Grin)
I would take Smith if both were available
loafin : 4/3/2021 8:40 am : link
Smith would replace Shepard in the slot within a year or 2.
If Waddle hadn't gotten hurt
Adam G in Big D : 4/3/2021 10:05 am : link
we wouldn't even be having this conversation because he would be competing with Ja'Marr Chase as the first WR off the board and almost guaranteed not to fall out of the top 10 of the 2021 draft.

Jaylen Waddle averaged over 21 yards per catch his senior year before he got hurt.
Smith

But Waddle wouldn’t be a bad choice.

Smith has the work ethic and the route running that I personally covet. I do not like his size and I think it will be an issue near the boundary. He's high cut and has trouble sinking his hips which will limit him in the slot. I think he can be effective at all 3 receiving positions but he'll be most effective at the "Z". But again his route running and work ethic are just two things you don't bet against.

Waddle is much more a freak. He has that rare ability to stop and go without losing a beat. It is just extremely hard to cover players like that. His route running isn't the best but with his speed and acceleration, it doesn't have to be. I think he's strictly a slot.

For me, I would never consider a slot receiver in the top 15 picks.. However, Waddle may just be the exception. On the Giants, he would make it extremely difficult for defenses. Having to account for Barkley is strenuous enough.. Now add a player like Waddle - that's a near nightmarish scenario.

Check that

He's a junior.

Waddle

I think Waddle has more of a chance to be "great".
Smith
JonC : 4/5/2021 9:27 am : link
He's got it all except he's skinny. I think Waddle could be the only receiver available at #11, kinda hope he's gone too.
Waddle is a lot more gifted than Smith
Heisenberg : 4/5/2021 9:47 am : link
Far wider range of outcomes. He could be the best version of OBJ or T. Hill. But he could also be an injury risk.

Smith is so smart and incredibly polished and I love his competitiveness. Reminds me of Marvin Harrison. Just a really low bust factor.

I'd be happy with either, honestly but the safer pick by far is Smith.

Jon I’m curious why you aren’t in favor of Waddle at 11?
Lack of size, the ankle injury
JonC : 4/5/2021 12:43 pm : link
and I think he's a slot WR, limiting his usability.
