This link has been posted but I thought it was a great comp that’s well worth watching so wanted to highlight it. Mac Jones comes out looking badly here, btw, his receivers were saving his bacon often. Waddle and Smith - ( New Window )
I want Smith, but if he's gone & Waddle is there @ 11, I'll settle for him. This offense still needs more firepower & I think both will be good pros.
I want Smith too and would also settle for Waddle if Smith is gone.
I think both of these guys will be better than Jeudy, Ruggs and Ridley who are all pretty good pros. I’d love it if the Giants are able to grab one of them at 11.
I don't think Waddle gets enough love for his route running. The guy isn't just a burner or dynamic slot guy after the catch. I've seen him in numerous games use different tempo on his routes and it's almost always game over for the CB.
with all the nuance to beat people. He does so many little things at a high level and doesn't just rely on physical gifts. Waddle is more physically gifted but less developed in terms of nuance.
The counterpoint to part of his argument is Waddle never played without Smith on the field; Smith dominated without Waddle.
No one has seen him run normally since his injury. He had surgery and tried to come back in the championship game (admirable), but was clearly hobbled. He hasn’t run since and there are no team visits due to Covid. A medical report may clear him (I am a team physician), but that doesn’t mean he is back to full speed without any issues. I also think there are receivers in the 2nd round that can be great. Smith is a different story. No real issues except size.
I agree not sold on Waddle in the first there is risks esp at 11. You changed my mind Pitts and Smith if we trade back that is fine. I am leaning on offense of weapons early if not best player later in the draft with trade back.

As nice as Smith is I really think Waddle would've outperformed him and been the higher rated prospect if not for the ankle. But that's such a huge "if" for the exact reason you pointed out. Whoever takes him will be doing so not quite blind but definitely with question marks.
Is going to be a Reggie Wayne like receiver. Just put up the numbers and not flash a lot but still produce. Speed guys like Waddle are risky. James Jett and Vikings Troy Williamson come to mind.

Those guys were just speed. Waddle runs great routes, has terrific hands, tracks the ball well and wins 50/50 balls.
Now. It's Pitts Waddle Chase Smith for me. Very close though. Happy with any of them. All are uncoverable. Waddle is the most versatile and Pitts is a legit NFL mismatch. Really a nice place to be. All 4 are must account for players.
Pitts not making it anywhere near 11, imo he doesn’t get passed 4, the latest 6. He’s a special talent, plain and simple. I prefer Smith over Waddle, waddles ceiling looks to be Tyreek Hill, but Smith’s ceiling is Marvin Harrison. Despite his size Smith is a problem, he does everything so damn well it’s ridiculous.
These guys will get killed playing in the cold and in a run based 2 TE offense.
These guys need to be in 11 personnel most of the time.
I like cold weather receivers, unless they have some size. The little guys who come from way down south don't do well in the cold. Remember the performance O'dell and the boys gave us in Green Bay as an example of wtf I'm talking about.

??? You know it does get cold in the Deep South right?? This logic is dumb as hell for not drafting a WR. OBJ played very well in the cold and he’s from LSU and I can name a shitload of other receivers but why bother, this take is flat out dumb.
play during and thinking what a pipe dream it was the Giants could land Smith.
He's ridiculously good. His suddenness at the LOS gets him open immediately. He has great hands. He has great football instincts. And he's got great competitive drive. Even when his separation ability doesn't get him open he makes the tough, contested catch. Possession and homerun ability. Always knows where the sticks & the sideline are.
His skillset is Gold Jacket IMO. Unbelievably, it seems a decent chance he's available at 11.
Nothing against Smith, but it Waddle doesn’t get hurt we aren’t even talking about him because there’d be no chance of him falling to 11. The fact that it’s being talked about as even being close with Waddle coming off injury and Smith coming off record setting heisman campaign says more about how rare Waddle is as a prospect.
With one of Chase, Waddle, Smith or Pitts and are able to move up in round 2 (using a 2022 pick) to draft a pass rusher.. we would have literally covered all our bases in one damn offseason

What's even dumber is a combative mental midget getting on a football sight and telling people that OBJ played well in the cold. WERE YOU A GIANTS FAN IN 2017, DUMBFUCK?????
OBJ had huge hands. He is not what I'd call little. Smith & Waddle are much smaller. Smith is a twig. Waddle has been injured. Let's be a real shithead organization and draft one of them to play in a run based two TE offense in the northeast.
Too many good receiver prospects in this draft to spend 11 on one of these guys. You want a receiver? Go for Bateman in the 2nd or Collins in the 3rd.
I want Smith too and would also settle for Waddle if Smith is gone.

Agree but size is a pretty big one. I think I lean waddle ever so slightly as a result.
Greg Cowell express my similar concern
Smith is awesome as well, so smooth.

Every rookie has warts. Some have fewer. These two have very few.

Exactly. Either will be a great addition and complete the WR unit.

Does that mean anything? Maybe not. Just sayin’.

There isn't. Some people might like Waddle better (and they could be right) but that shouldn't be taken as a slight to Smith.

Smith & Waddle, no thank you. I hope they are both chosen before pick #11 along with 5 QBs and three kickers

He's the better prospect for me. But I just want to see him do speed and agility drills to verify full recovery.

That said - I'd still take Smith.
Unbelievably good WR class. Maybe the best ever.
I thought he was talking about size and style of play rather than geography. That seems like a huge reach then.
