NFT: NFT: congrats Jordan Spieth.....Masters next?

thrunthrublue : 4/4/2021 8:16 pm
Its Masters week......can jordan roll his long lost A game into Augusta as a favorite? All week he putted masterfully, kept the ball in play and held on today to win in texas after a long, struggling drought, he and his caddy's strategic discussions are very interesting........a “miked up” without any bleeps!!!
Love Speith

and hope he continues to do well. Golf is more interesting with him in the hunt. When he is on, his game is fun to watch.

He needs to avenge his 2016 choke job at Augusta.
I loved him

Thought he was going to be an all-time great. And he interviewed beautifully, a really class act. What a disappointment he's been. Too much success too easily? It would be so nice to see him come back.

He's 27 years old. Disappointment? Three of four majors won. 12 wins at age 27. Disappointment?

You want to see disappointment see Rickie Fowler.

Rather rash, eh?

I think Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson will be favorites. I think Spieth needs a couple more wins to get his swagger back. He's been getting closer and closer each tourny this year. Today he did not crack.

Rickie Fowler was a media creation, more of a personality than a great golfer. Spieth was a great golfer for a couple/few years. He won majors. He was the favorite every time he played. And then he just fell off a cliff. He hasn't been close to special for 4-5 years. So, yeah, a disappointment. Without looking it up, I'd bet that almost everything he's accomplished, he'd accomplished by the time he was 23. I hope more than anything he can get his shit together again. How many people are disappointed that Tiger hasn't done anything in about 10 years? He was supposed to make everyone forget Jack.

FWIW, Spieth made the one mistake that kills many golfers - changing his swing to hit it longer. He felt his 285-290 was not long enough compared with the others like Thomas, Johnson and McIlroy. His game early on was his short game especially his long putting. The bad play off the tee box put far too much pressure on his short game and often leaving him bad lies from long distances.

I think perhaps a slight tweak to your statement could be made - it was a disappointment to not see him win more often, not that he was a disappointment. Semantics, yes, but nothing about Spieth is a disappointment.
Spieth is definitely not a disappointment
UConn4523 : 4/5/2021 8:08 am : link
as noted above you may feel disappointed after his bursting onto the scene, but they you compare his start to that of everyone else and its more the norm than anything. He's 4 years younger than Rory and has 1 less major and 6 less tour wins. Spieth has had a better career than Justin Thomas. Even Koepka who's peak has been slightly better has less tour wins despite the age gap.

I'll be rooting for Spieth, he's definitely my favorite Golfer in the post-Tiger era.
Spited has played well this year
johnnyb : 4/5/2021 8:08 am : link
and finally out it together and won a tournament. Let’s be fair though- it was a weak field, as is the case the week before the Masters. I like Spieth a lot and would love for him to win another green jacket, but Jordan Thomas is also playing well and he is my pick this week.
Has not been the same since Masters choke

He lost his mojo when he kept hitting the water. Still hard to believe it happened. He needs a great win to regain his mojo/confidence.

Disagree. Butch asked Ricky "do you want to be a major winner or a Kardashian". That didn't come from nowhere. That said, I'm a fan, but the excessive number of loose irons in big spots was indeed disapppointing.
Jordan is the last guy on tour
Bill in UT : 4/5/2021 10:41 am : link
that I've actively rooted for. 27 is still young for a golfer and I hope he can regain his old form and confidence. I was a big David Duval fan also long ago and it was sad to see his early decline after great beginnings. Fact is though that Jordan has done almost nothing since the age of 23- Valero was his first win in almost 4 years. Get your shit together, kid :)
Jordan's problems is mostly related to the short stick
Stan in LA : 4/5/2021 12:11 pm : link
Couldn't hit into a rain barrow for a couple of years. Putting better now, but not up to his peak. Also, his miss to the right under pressure is still a problem.

Overall, he'll be a very good player, but not a dominant one.

So are you saying he should get a longer putter?
