Let's see how we fare against a stout Brooklyn team. Up-paced game for Knicks, OR pace-down for Nets? Hoping for the later and our defense slows them down.
Looking back on his playing career, it seems to me that Davis was a little ahead of his time, and that in today's game, high-percentage 3-point shooters are more valued. Thoughts, anyone?
This is exactly why the NBA fucking blows as a league...they enable this shit. But hey, they score tons of points! Fucking joke, hypocritical monetary sponge.
Why do that when you can force feed Randle again [/sarcasm]
Like i get it Randle is your best player, but you had 3 seconds why not give the ball to Burks and run a little quick two man and see what the nets do?
They might doubke randle and you get a wide open look for Burks
Another triple double for Randle and RJ with a great game. IQ didn't show up. 2/3 ain't bad. Next year with Kispert, we'll be able to beat this Nets team.
If they can’t beat Kyrie and a bunch of average to old players, they have a long way to go.
Of course they do, they have 2 legit pieces, Mitch is hurt and a question mark..
They need a point guard for the future..
Bullock is an ok piece but is a role player..
Burks is a good bench sckrer..
Rose is a 20 to 25 minute player a game at this point..
Quickley is starting to struggle, may be hitting a wall..
Noel is starting when he should be playing 15 to 20 minutes a night..
Gibson is a role player who is toeards the end..
I mean this team still needs a lot but they are well coached, play hard and are a top defensive team..if they had any sort of consistent offense they would be a top 4 seed eaaily
We have below average talent that plays extremely hard and it just cannot beat good teams consistently. We do not have a true go to scorer. Randle is good enough to be the #2 on a championship team, Barrett upside could be a #3, but we need a #1 wing or guard that can score a bucket with ease. RJ and and Randle work so hard to get their buckets, nothing is easy. We don’t have a guy in this roster that can do a crossover pull up or pull back jumpshot. The NBA is all about shot creation and outside shooting, we have none of that on our roster except for Quickley a little bit. The nets have 3 guys that can get a bucket with ease whenever they want, you need that in crunch time. Julius Randle is not the answer or go to guy in crunch time on a winning team.
Putting that aside I think we are all frustrated with the close losses, but the reality is the future is bright as much as it will be frustrating over the next 6 weeks as they will more than likely finish under 500 and finish as the 8 or 9 seed. At that point I would rather take the lottery chances then get knocked out 4-0 by the nets.
Last point, Thibs has overalls done a very good job, but he has lost games with poor coaching decisions. Elfrid payment has to be blackmailing him with something major. He deserves 0 minutes on the floor. I will never get it.

I agree with this. This team is really missing a guy who can drive and kick to shooters and break down a defense. IQ and Rose are fine, but they aren't really distributors, they're more looking for their own shots.
If we don't make the playoffs, I'm not going to lose any sleep. This team has shown a tremendous amount of growth and if we get one more lotto pick, so be it.
Has he shown flashes? Sure. But the kid is completely out his element when you have him orchestrating a half court offense and he's often a black hole on the offensive end. He might grow into a nice combo guard in a couple of seasons, but by no means is he untouchable. And quite honestly, I think if Thibs were to play him 30min a night and some here are demanding, you're likely to magnify his warts and kill his confidence. He's not ready to start.

His FG % is 38% which is pretty damn bad. He needs to be more consistant and that will come with time.
than with anyone else on the team. He is pressing because he gets limited minutes almost irrespective of what he does. I thinkk he is getting inconsistent signals. I don't see the coach developing him. He seems to be regressing as a result.

He is probably hitting the rookie wall, when hebplays well Thibs rolls with him, last noght he was not very good..
The Knicks roster is just not very good. Thibs has gotten the most out of the roster, but there are big upgrades that need to happen to be a good team.
Randle has plateaued a bit. He's still very very good but he can't be the iso answer to Kyrie. He's never gonna be that guy.
Payton played pretty well, IMO (at least for him). His one big fuckup that I saw was when he called off the double team and Irving had no trouble with what was decent defense.
But it was another moment in the game where you could really see how Lonzo would be perfect for the Knicks. Payton is a decent defender but not as good as he thinks he is. Lonzo actually is that good. He's longer and better. That would be exactly where he could help the Knicks. Kyrie is Kyrie, but Lonzo would have made it much more difficult on him. Add in the fact that he's a better shooter and passer than Payton and it's just an easy upgrade for the Knicks in the offseason. I hope they can make it happen. The Knicks still need a guy like Beal or Lavine who can really fill up the basket, but I'm all in on Lonzo at PG.

Or the Knicks fans, like always, overreacted to a player that shoes flashed of potential by treating and proclaiming him a surefire star. I have never seen that before from the Knicks fanbase. He is definitely an intriguing player, but what he will become is really not close to settled.

Yeah Randlr is clearly a number 2 guy, he can distribute, rebound and knock down open shots, and on most nights you dont want him to jjst iso..
On Offense he plays likr Draynond with a jumper..
Rj i still dont know, there are times i watch him and i want to pull my hair out, whats left at least, and other times i see a number 2..
Lonzo would be awesome on this team and they need a shooting guard who can create when you need it..

I dont think anyone saw him as a star and most people questioned if he could be the future at point guard..
IQ has tons of value right now in the league. Even his peers have said so. The kid can shoot. Now if he isn’t part of the future, don’t burry him on the bench like Frank, Knox, Obi where he loses his value. Move him in the off-season if need be. I really like the player want to keep him but we have to maximize our assets while they are hot. Or freaking play the kid.
If they can’t beat Kyrie and a bunch of average to old players, they have a long way to go.
You're underrating the talent on the Nets, other than the big 3. Many have. They are much deeper than many thought and their excellent record reflects that. This isn't a team of slobs and backups. THey are very good.

Oh stop with poor IQ not getting good coaching here. EVERYONE else has shown growth under Thibs, even Obi.
Thibs aint the problem with any player here. Fans can't wait to get on this guy every time a young player plays like shit. It aint Thibs. It's IQ and the rookie wall. Or it's IQ and he's just not as good as we all thought. I am hoping it's just the wall.
That wasn't a team waiting around for a superstar to bail them out. The Nets played hard all night. They scrapped and hustled, which was what the Knicks were thought to be.

I understand Knicks fans always overrate their rookies and young players. But Quickley has been really good this year- especially given where he was drafted. But honestly what’s so refreshing about him is his confidence and shooting. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to Frank, Knox, Obi etc who look scared shitless for the most part.
But no player IQ included is untouchable on this team. Not even close.
I think the main excitement that IQ brings (at least to me)
is that he has flashes of elite potential in a direly needed area - shooting. He's also got some swagger, competitiveness, intelligence and feel for the game.
Lots of areas to improve though, especially defensively.
I’m just curious about your thoughts about the team, do you consider the nets a fun team, will you be really excited when they win a championship. It’s almost like you don’t know any of the players, they are not your players. I feel like these guys will be here this year and next year and then move on in 2 years.
It reminds me of when yanks won the World Series when free agency era really took off and they had arod, etc. I remember being so psyched during the first run in 96, 98, 99, 00, it was awesome and we loved those players, Jeter, Bernie, Brosiuus, O’Neil, Pettite, Rivera, Posada. I’m sure I am missing some, but those were guys that were true yankees. When they win in 09, I remember it wasn’t that exciting, obviously happy they won, but not the same.
I don’t mean this as a dig at nets fans, but really curious what the thoughts are
I also think he is struggling to find his place with Rose and Burks...He seems to be forcing a little bit when he gets his touches, kind of reminds me of Rj last yesr..
Rj struggled to know whrn to attack and when to move the ball, still has those moments

I'm not a Net fan but I wouldn't give a fuck if my favorite team acquired 5 new starters at the trade deadline and then won the whole thing.
They can't beat the surefire playoff teams without injuries or great 3PT shooting nights and that's the reality.
Now they have to figure out how to improve the roster to beat playoff teams. Don't look for someone to blame. They're an improved team, they're just not good enough as is, which we all knew already.
I couldn’t help but wonder why wouldn’t Thibs give Frank a shot to shutdown Luka or Kyrie. Interesting stat from Twitter. Knicks are 2-7 in games decided by 3 points or less. In the 2 games they win Frank closed the game against indiana and Orlando. The 7 losses Frank did not close and the following players shot above 50 percent and scored the following 4th quarter/2nd half points:

yup next step is adding pieces this offseason and take another jump..
Nice to be in a situation now where it is about adding pieces to compete not 1 year deals to tank

They are ahead of schedule than anyone expected them to be.
This season is a surprise and has been a lot of fun.
This off-season will determine the future.
Do you package the 3 top picks they have to move up for one top player?
Do you extend Randle?
Resign Burks, Noel, Bullock, Rose, Etc?
Do you go after Lonzo and some mid range talent?
Do you go all in on a big trade in the off-season with the capital we have? (Can we shake free Mitchell?)
I for one am enjoying this season and look forward to seeing what they can do in the off season.

We are at #15, #21 and #33. Together maybe move to 8? Unless something changes you are not getting a star. See Frank, Knox Topin. Better (the way we draft) taking three blind shots at the apple.

Yes they extend Randle or at the very least they exercise that option year.
They will go big game hunting this off-season. Just unsure of which player(s)
whatever it is Knicks won't let Randle get away. He's too good a player. Efficient. Shares the ball. good rebounder. Not a bad defender even if he isn't great. He just needs help.

if 1 has supported the team as long as i have, then you have watched the franchise evolve and this team is every bit them, and a part of that evolution.
even this current team, which got rebuilt under a new GM after the biggest disaster (celtics trade) a franchise could endure. it started with a few picks and a change in style of play. culture evolved and players developed. then a few key decisions, and more savy picks/trades to get resources.
nobody cares about the nets if they dont become a fun to watch playoff team under kenny. nobody comes to the nets (KD/Kyrie) if they dont have an OK roster/good facility/willing owner- and good training and development staff.
Harden isnt acquired without having drafted and developed Levert and Allen.
the team can withstand injuries without finding Joe harris, Brown, and others. and all of this without dinwiddie.
so while optics might say this is some "bought team"- its bought because the franchise evolved from the Billy King depths- so there really is no angle that short changes it.
they even helped make harden buy in to being the most interesting guy to watch in the league- and Kyrie as well.
go as high as 22 per for Lonzo. He'd be a HUGE addition.
I've always wanted a PG like Ball here with the Knicks. Big, tall and does everything well, including defend. Those score first PGs that pick up assists are nice, but I want the pass first PG that might yield the same or even less assists than some other PGs, but he's running a more efficient or prolific offense.

I'll take my swing at this as well. The players here right now are different but this roster was built from the day Marks arrived and the vision is mostly consistent with what he laid out from day 1, and to see that succeed would be enormously satisfying.
Spencer Dinwiddie would be a key starter if not for his injury, Marks found him in the D league in his first year. Same as he got Chiozza, TLC, and now Alize Johnson. And even further back net fans will remember Sean Kilpatrick.
Bruce Brown was a savvy trade pick up for a non lotto pick. He has carved out a really nice role for himself.
Nic Claxton was a 2nd round pick just last year. He too has carved out a nice role for himself.
Tyler Johnson was I believe 1 of the first FA targets Marks went after as GM even though he ended up taking a roundabout course to get here.
his first 2 non lotto picks Levert + Allen got them Harden.
Let's also not forget that Marks traded for DLo, resurrected him into a max player, and then traded him in a s&t for KD - obviously GS didn't make a basketball trade there but there is some symbolism. Point being a big reason why KD + Kyrie chose to sign here is that Sean Marks was doing a great job and they bought in on that.
So to me the answer to this question is sort of like asking a Pats fan how they'd feel if Belichek won a SB with Cam Newton and all the FA's they signed last month and I think the answer would be that it'd be just as gratifying and perhaps even more so to win one without Brady. They may not all be homegrown players from the draft but the win would still be a testament to the program and philosophy that Belichek has built there. The Nets winning would similarly validate everything Marks has done since Feb 2016. Big ticket FA's just bought into the Nets sooner than expected.
this nets team wouldn't be where it is right now without the moves to acquire Levert, Dinwiddie, DLo, Allen, and Harris (who I completely forgot to mention). Also to a lesser extent Bruce Brown, and Claxton.
So while they were 100% fortunate to get 1 superstar wanting to be here let alone 3 it wasn't totally accidental that they were able to execute that. Marks had them in good position thanks to very good asset management.

He's an ascending player too. Not something the Knicks have been able to really add the last "few" years. Yeah, Randle sure as hell appears to be one but when they signed him it was more like a desperate Knicks signing (not at all knocking Randle or the Knicks) but the Knicks signing a young guy on the rise coming off a breakout year? Unheard of.
I’d be ecstatic if they won a Championship this year. They’ve never won one and I’d love to see it. I could care less if Marks brought in Superstars. That’s the way of the NBA. It’s a Superstar Team league and if you don’t have at least two on your team, then you will struggle to win a Championship. Last time the NETs were in back to back Championships, they had a guy named Jason Kidd! Jason Kidd was not a home grown talent and the NETs would not have gotten to the Championship without him. Would it be nice to build a team from the ground up and see them win a Championship? Yes, of course, but it’s a rarity in this league and so what Sean Marks did was simply miraculous and if they win a Championship, he’d be a major reason why. If the Knicks went this route, and they’ve tried, Knicks fans would be absolutely giddy and so I don’t get the hate. Anyway, I’d be very excited to see them win a Championship with this team. I also think Irving is here for the long haul. He grew up a NETs fan and I think Harden and Durant will also remain, as they’re all very close, as well. Money is not the object for them anymore, it’s winning Championships.

if winning championships was truly the #1 goal for Durant, he never would have left Golden State. As for Sean Marks, he did a very good job. But let's not pretend any of it mattered to Kyrie or Durant. It didn't matter to them if it was Sean Marks or Sean Penn running things.
Simms, I will say this with full confidence there is no way this team will remain together past next year. I think the honeymoon stage is working on great but durant and harden won’t be able to handle the criticism they will face after they win it this year. Durant will always be known as a ring chaser who couldn’t do it with out 2 other superstars. It will eat away at him and it will cause friction. Harden will be known as a quitter who chased a ring and road the coat tails of durant and Kyrie to his first championship and his ego will get in the way. This is a 2 year window and I fully expect the nets to easily win thisbyear and next year. Anything less than back to back championships assuming healthy during the playoffs is a complete failure in my book. They have arguably 3 of the top 7 players in the nba on their roster who are also ball handlers and selfless players. Only injuries stand in the way. If healthy lebron and AD have no shot. I forgot how good Kyrie is, he may be the most skilled all around offensive player I have seen in my liefetime and #2 is James harden. Durant is the best offensive player I have ever seen from a shot making perspective.
I think we are going to a historic playoff run from this group, again assuming they are all healthy.
I feel the same about KD. He's a big dude & those lower body injuries for those guys...there's gotta be doubt.
If Brooklyn is at full strength come playoffs, they're the prohibitive favorite in the East. Too much firepower. I'll be rooting like hell against them. And this 'Is Harden MVP?' talk is GTFO worthy. No way a man who left Houston like that deserves the MVP.

There is a reason why players dont come back from achilles injuries in basketball..
It all deoends hoe they are reffed in thr playoffs, if a team likr the sixers are allowed tonplay physical they can beat them but if refs are goingnto call it tight forget about it

Just like the all-rookie teams last year. On what planet does Mikal Bridges (who's 4 years older) have more future potential than RJ Barrett?
I also find it comical that Anthony Edwards is likely going to win ROY when his efficiency numbers are actually worse than Barrett's last year which was apparently the reason that guys like Terence Davis made the all-rookie team over him.

Just a quick snap thoughts...I'd put Tatum over LaMelo & Mitchell. Ja should be higher, Sabonis too. Ingram is too high.
No Rj? lol
First thing I thought as well. The most egregious guy on that list over him is Bridges, who is a 3-D guy and is barely under 25 years old.
On that list I would rather have Barrett than Edwards, Haliburton, Collins, Allen, and Sexton too. I mean especially Edwards, what has he shown at this point? He is shooting 39% from the field, and barely scoring more points per game than shots taken.
Doubtful this is even an option. But would you move both 1st round picks and the 2022 NYK 1st to move up to 3 or 4 to draft Suggs?
id rather save it for a younger more established player
Totally get that but I'm just not sure what stars are breaking free. Even the logical candidates are mostly signed really long term or on really good teams.
Its definitely riskier but if you hit on one of these guys at the top of the draft you can still use your cap space going forward to fortify the roster. You would be low on picks but still have a cap room and you know the Knicks will have no problem paying the luxury tax.
Every mock and what I am hearing/ reading has Suggs going 3-5. But that can obviously change. I just think he is perfect for this team.

I just dont like giving up 3 1sts for a draft pick, no matter how good the player looks in college, and i think Suggs could be a beast..
I do think Beal will be available this offseason, Lavine could be traded if he doesnt sign an extension..There are going tk be guys we dont expect available
but only the Knicks would finally show signs of digging their way out of this decades long run of futility, possess TONS of cap room, plenty of draft capital and even a good group of good young NBA talent, and of course, there are no legendary dream team fuckers out there that want to form a big three. They are all in happy places. Of course they are.
Nets make the worst fucking trade in NBA history and all but bankroll Boston's coffers, reset things for a minute, go 500, and 3 legends moonwalk into their lap. Fuck off already. We are hoping for bradley fucking beal who isn't a legendary talent and won't ever be a legendary talent. He's great, but he aint holy shit great.
Where is that player? The only one I can think of is Leonard who likely wants to stay in stupid LA.

Yeah, don’t mean to sound doom and gloom were still in a great place compared to the last 20. Just gotta wait and see. Wish I could be a fly on the wall and hear what rose, thibs and company are saying right now about the future of this team. What players they are targeting... you wonder.
Really?
That was your best choice?
Expect a Mitch extension at 4 years, starting at around $10 mill next year and deescalating from there.
They seem fairly confident that within the next two years they’ll be making a move that involves a big package for SGA or Donovan Mitchell.

LOL. Lonzo for Frank and a second. That's an awesome proposal.

I'd like to know how Kevin "Warming up the bench" Knox is still on the team
They lost it when Rj decided to drive into 3 people and turn kt over constantly, then the team decided to keep chucking 3s..
That was a foul.

I think the look was ok, just dont think he was shooting well tonight and Burks just hit a 3..
He wasnt playing well, gettinf killed defensively and not ahooting well, no problem with him not playing more..
35-16, 1st in the conference. Not exactly a shitstain.
And Knicks had a timeout in their pocket if they got the ball back to change personnel.
But no change made from the offensive lineup that was out there for Burks' three pointer: Randle,Bullock,Burks, RJ, Quickley.
Randle has rebounding numbers but isn't the guy I want out there without some help on the boards, like Taj Gibson.
If you look at how the last play developed and where Quickley was, much better to have Gibson out there.

The FA pipe dream is Leonard but good luck there. Maybe Ball. What trade is out there to be had?
Not to get ahead, it has been a fun year but you would think this team will look a lot different after this coming offseason.

Hopefully get a point, i woukd think they go hard after Ball..
Then go max player hunting in 22 free agency or maybe Ball asks out this offseason
Ball/rose
Beal/bullock
rj/burks
Randle
Mitch/noel/gibson
back up 4 a vet minimum or rookie you drafted

20/14/14
Mix in INJ/minutes as required...
His FG % is 38% which is pretty damn bad. He needs to be more consistant and that will come with time.
Quote:
Has he shown flashes? Sure. But the kid is completely out his element when you have him orchestrating a half court offense and he's often a black hole on the offensive end. He might grow into a nice combo guard in a couple of seasons, but by no means is he untouchable. And quite honestly, I think if Thibs were to play him 30min a night and some here are demanding, you're likely to magnify his warts and kill his confidence. He's not ready to start.

Could Quickley be hitting a "rookie wall"?
2) Sign Zack Levine in FA in 2022 to play the 2.

Can't wait to listen...
Can't wait to listen...
cool let's revisit misery.
Last 20 years doesn't mean anything. We have a HC here and we have a front office that knows what its doing. We had neither up until now.
Lots of areas to improve though, especially defensively.

Now they have to figure out how to improve the roster to beat playoff teams. Don't look for someone to blame. They're an improved team, they're just not good enough as is, which we all knew already.
Luka - 13 pts - Q4
Brunson - 11 pts - Q4
Butler - 19 pts - 2nd half
Kyrie - 17 pts - 2nd half
Edwards - 17 pts - 2nd half
Frank could have helped to slow these guys down. I think our closing line up in a close game should be:
Burks
Frank
RJ
Randle
Gibson

Because Frank is one of the worst offensive players in the NBA. He can certainly help on defense but he absolutely kills you on the other end.
I like Frank and root for him but he is in his 4th year of the NBA and has zero offensive game. Its like having Gibson as a guard on an offense.

Yes they extend Randle or at the very least they exercise that option year.
They will go big game hunting this off-season. Just unsure of which player(s)

if 1 has supported the team as long as i have, then you have watched the franchise evolve and this team is every bit them, and a part of that evolution.
even this current team, which got rebuilt under a new GM after the biggest disaster (celtics trade) a franchise could endure. it started with a few picks and a change in style of play. culture evolved and players developed. then a few key decisions, and more savy picks/trades to get resources.
nobody cares about the nets if they dont become a fun to watch playoff team under kenny. nobody comes to the nets (KD/Kyrie) if they dont have an OK roster/good facility/willing owner- and good training and development staff.
I think so too, but if the reported offer for Lonzo was real, I question how much they even want him.
Quote:
go as high as 22 per for Lonzo. He'd be a HUGE addition.
I think so too, but if the reported offer for Lonzo was real, I question how much they even want him.
Fair question. The Knicks have been very odd in their PG pursuits.

Unheard of.
if winning championships was truly the #1 goal for Durant, he never would have left Golden State. As for Sean Marks, he did a very good job. But let's not pretend any of it mattered to Kyrie or Durant. It didn't matter to them if it was Sean Marks or Sean Penn running things.
I think we are going to a historic playoff run from this group, again assuming they are all healthy.
I just wonder if KD, AD, Harden, lebron, etc. Will need time to get back into the flow and for teams to gel.

I agree. KD returns tomorrow though. If health wasn't an issue, it's Nets Lakers but who knows in this truncated season?

If Brooklyn is at full strength come playoffs, they're the prohibitive favorite in the East. Too much firepower. I'll be rooting like hell against them. And this 'Is Harden MVP?' talk is GTFO worthy. No way a man who left Houston like that deserves the MVP.

It all deoends hoe they are reffed in thr playoffs, if a team likr the sixers are allowed tonplay physical they can beat them but if refs are goingnto call it tight forget about it

Mitchell
Tatum
Fox
Simmons
Booker
Bam
SGA
Ingram
Jaylen Brown
Murray
Porter Jr.
Ja
Trae
Mikal Bridges
Sabonis
Edwards
Ayton
Haliburton
John Collins
Jarrett Allen
Lonzo
Sexton
Just a quick snap thoughts...I'd put Tatum over LaMelo & Mitchell. Ja should be higher, Sabonis too. Ingram is too high.
No Rj? lol
Embarrassing. But, just looking @ LAL upcoming schedule, going to be tough without LBJ/AD. I so hope the Lakers fall into play-in tournament.
I also find it comical that Anthony Edwards is likely going to win ROY when his efficiency numbers are actually worse than Barrett's last year which was apparently the reason that guys like Terence Davis made the all-rookie team over him.

He is shooting 39% from the field, and barely scoring more points per game than shots taken.
id rather save it for a younger more established player
I think Suggs is going 1 or 2. Seriously doubt he’s there at 3 or 4.

Doubtful this is even an option. But would you move both 1st round picks and the 2022 NYK 1st to move up to 3 or 4 to draft Suggs?

Cunningham is easily going 1, Suggs is probably going 2

rj/burks
Randle
Mitch/noel/gibson
back up 4 a vet minimum or rookie you drafted
You trading IQ/Obi and picks for Beal?
Why WOULDNT you do that?
I would do it. I'm just wondering what his package would be.

but only the Knicks would finally show signs of digging their way out of this decades long run of futility, possess TONS of cap room, plenty of draft capital and even a good group of good young NBA talent, and of course, there are no legendary dream team fuckers out there that want to form a big three. They are all in happy places. Of course they are.

Yeah, don’t mean to sound doom and gloom were still in a great place compared to the last 20. Just gotta wait and see. Wish I could be a fly on the wall and hear what rose, thibs and company are saying right now about the future of this team. What players they are targeting... you wonder.
