Matt Ryan is going to be 36 next month. Maybe the Panthers opted for Darnold because they would have been left with the 5th QB in the draft, best case. Thoughts?
You draft people. I wouldn't get caught up in the 4th or 5th QB argument. I believe Atlanta likes Trey Lance so if SF does something different like take Mac Jones then I can see Atlanta not getting the 4th QB because they may have Lance higher on their board even though he went 4th.
the Falcons were going to trade the pick within there division to give the Panthers a shot at drafting a franchise QB that could plague them for years to come. I think once they figured that out they settled on Darnold.
I doubt that. I'd be very surprised at that. I think that the 49ers have something else in mind. Possibly a trade for Deshaun Watson involving JimmyG going back to NE for the 15 pick, which would be packaged with the #3 pick and the 49ers 2022 1st & 3rd round picks being all sent to Houston. I have nothing to base that on other than the fact that I think the 49ers feel that they can go all the way this year if they had a great QB so I don't believe that they are rebuilding and wanting to wait for a rookie QB to develop.

I don’t think any team in their right minds is trading for Watson at this point in time. Unless Houston just gives him away but I doubt they’ll come close to doing that.
And I think QB will be the pick for them. It's a QB saturated class and the Falcons will likely say to themselves "are we really going to be picking this high again in the next few years?" I know everyone has mocked Fields to them, but to me the better fit is Lance.
and given that the top 3 QBs of the draft are gone, maybe the Falcons wait another year to draft Ryan's replacement. He'd have to sit another year anyway.
Matt Ryan. And they just gave him a big contract, why move on. Plenty of QB's have played until they were 40. I guess it depends on what Matt wants though, he may not have the desire to do that.
I think they would love to draft Pitts or one of the WR's. If they trade down, well it depends how far, but they have a huge hole at Safety (Trevon Moehrig would be a great fit), Left Guard (Slater? or wait to the 2nd Round), and Edge #2 (same discussion as Giants). CB#2 is pretty weak also (with a trade down they could still come away with a stud..Horn or Partain, Farley), their young Center isn't working out for them (2nd Round Creed Humphrey?), TE and WR are needs. Pretty much DT, ILB are the only positions they are really set at on paper. Well, it's important to say they are set a Tackle as well because i think it takes them out of the Sewell conversation. I'm not sure how Kaleb McGary has played but he was a 1st round pick so I'm guessing they don't want to move on from him yet.
So if it were me I'd be looking hard to trade down, but if not then it would be Pitts.
6 picks. To get Pitts without giving up next year we probably will have him + #196 & #211. Don’t know how that would help our need for another WR, OL and Edge which should be our first 3 selections.
Just because you have a crush on Trey Lance doesn't mean that Kyle Shanahan agrees with you.
All signs point to Mac Jones at #3.
Umm only one sign points to Mac Jones. Many more signs point to Lance. The knock on Garoppolo was that he wasn't mobile and athletic enough to satisfy Shanahan. The answer to that in this draft is Trey Lance.

Maybe they meant in the 2nd round like they once told Phil Simms
1. Lawrence
2. Wilson
3. Lance
4. Fields

Surprising as it may sound
