Anybody catch it tonight? It was the first of 3 parts. Tomorrow is part 2 and Wednesday is the finale - on PBS of course.
Even if you are not a fan of his books the man lead a personal life that fascinates. I am wondering if I bought to much of the myth? But, if Ken Burns' account is factual (and his documentaries always seem factual with very little editorializing - if any) Hemingway is the real deal.
Anyway, nothing like a story (about any subject) as told by Ken Burns. Narrated by Peter Coyote as usual.
I should have created this thread much earlier as a reminder. Sorry if anyone who wanted to see it missed it. Tomorrow's part 2 looks great.
Sorry about that Joe ... I knew it was going to be on and marked my calendar about 3 weeks ago when I first had seen the advertisement for it. Why I didn't start a thread this morning is beyond me. I just wasn't thinking ...
I am sure you will be able to see it somewhere eventually. Youtube?

Now I see they re-air parts one and two a few hours after part three, starting at 1am on Thursday. Looks really interesting, excited to check it out.

Ha no need to apologize, totally my mistake. I remember reading it was going to start tonight (well last night now) but between the Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Nets and the NCAA Championship all on I just totally forgot about it. As I mentioned above they'll re-air parts one and two a few hours after they show part three so I'll just catch up with those airings. Definitely looking forward to it.

I only see parts two and three being shown on PBS going forward, no re-airing of part one. Maybe it’s a Fios specific thing. Oh well.

Thanks!
You'll want to click the link provided above for a singularly great writer's life story.
Grant's Tomb?

I am going to have to google it if you don't want to wait till tomorrow night.

Before I googled it ... my 2 guesses were Key West, Fla or Cuba. Since he was a true American (born and raised) - I eliminated places like Spain, Africa, Italy, and Paris. All places that figured prominently in his novels and personal life.
When the answer came back it did ring a bell. I believe that is where he lived the last couple of years of his life (hint).
Can't believe he killed himself since in part 1 he called his father a coward for killing ... HIMSELF. And part 1 also referenced Hemingway's fear of suicide.
I guess one's fate will catch up to you - contempt and/or fear be dammed.
